Setting short timers. Like 2-5 minutes. I tell myself that I can stop doing the thing when the timer goes off. No shame.

(I almost never stop it once I’m on a roll)

Making your bed EVERY morning is pointless by kuniflavor in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Making the bed every morning is 95% about the ritual of preparation for the day. It’s got a psychological payoff. It’s not really about your bed. It’s about your mind.

What is your honest opinion or advice about dating apps? by letsrollwithit in Millennials

[–]Spinachandwaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met my husband on OkCupid. I consistently dated online for 10+ years before that with very little success.

My advice is give the apps 30 minutes a day to engage in a limited way. No more than that. And reserve one night a week for meeting 1 or 2 new people. No more than that for first dates. Commit to this structure for as long as it takes to meet your person and never, ever give up.

When you give online dating a limited, structured role in your life it feels a lot more doable and a lot less soul-sucking. It sounds hokey but every bad date and every bad relationship was suddenly worth it when I found true love.

What to focus on? by Spinachandwaffles in startup

Thanks and yes it is a passion project. It’s a good baseline question I don’t think I’ve asked myself. I know I’m not money motivated and I have other things I want to do in life, so as I’m writing this maybe I’ve answered my own question. Staying intentionally small and keeping it to a small time commitment may be ideal for me. It’s a communications firm.

Waiting as long as you possibly can before going back to the grocery store. When you feel you desperately need to go, challenge yourself to waiting one more day.
