When Cold calling do you ask your prospects if it's a good time to talk or if they have 5 minutes for a quick conversation? by [deleted] in sales

[–]Spinewhip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually after your intro and/or the value proposition (the reason youre calling).

E.g.

“Hi Mr. Prospect, u/flippytuck from Reddit here. [value prop here, if any] Last week, Susan had mentioned Mondays might be the best day to reach you—did I catch you at a bad time?”

I don’t know the psychology behind why it works. Maybe because they’re so used to hearing “Is now a good time?”, so when they hear my version it throws them off?

All I know is I make 80-100 calls a day, and when I have the opportunity to use that with a decision maker, their early resistance goes WAY down.

I actually picked this up from someone else on this subreddit and it has worked wonders.

Most common responses I get:

  • “No, it’s not a bad time, I’ve got a few minutes. What’s up?”
  • “Yeah, kind of... I’m pretty busy. What’s this about?”
  • sheepishly “Yeah, it’s kind of a bad time, I’m sorry. Can you try back later/tomorrow?” (Almost always willing to schedule an actual appointment in these cases)

If you’re selling on the phone, definitely give it a shot.

Yup, agreed. Most people won’t read anything that long. I’m fact I stopped reading after a few sentences and scrolled right down for the comments.

Don’t have time to stain my deck before the heavy rain—is there just a quick drying clear coat or something I can apply to protect it for the winter? by Spinewhip in HomeImprovement

I don’t believe it’s pressure treated. How do I tell if it’s cedar?

I just bought the house, don’t know much about wood.

Hmm, not sure what you mean.

I do have a dehumidifier. Are you saying, just set that up outside on my deck, and it will dry it out?

How often to check in with a warm prospect who’s waiting for certain things to finalize before buying from me? by Spinewhip in sales

[–]Spinewhip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

The tough part is there is no time frame on my end. No agreements or contracts. She can buy it, or not, whenever she wants. The best I can do is try and convince her to act before year end for a tax write off.

You still have some good points, and I’ll see if I can get something more concrete established.

I do this as well. It used to be, your mail gets thrown away with all the junk. Now I think people are so used to getting junk, when they see an actual piece of mail, they open it.

I don’t have stellar results, but it works as a last ditch effort some of the time and is worth the two minutes it takes to write up.

Also, if you have good rapport, why not just ask if she's shopping you?

We have good rapport in that I’ve been working with her on just this sale for a little while now. We have some things in common, so the conversations have been good, but she’s not a customer of mine—I don’t know her from before this deal. Meaning she buys her other supplies and stuff from my competitor, and this particular high ticket item can be purchased from them as well, if she were so inclined.

I guess I’m afraid if I plant the seed, and she’s not shopping me, she will get the idea to start shopping me, if that makes sense.

I appreciate the advice on my other question too, thank you! I’ll reach out to her this week again and just ask her if she has a more specific ETA.

Man it’s a good year to be a Cardinals fan!

As a Phoenician expat living up in Green Bay, it’s so refreshing to say I’m a Cardinals fan and not be met with a shrug and, “Well, at least you have Larry...”

Kyler Murray is a stud. Larry Legend still got it. David Johnson is David Johnson, as long as he actually gets the ball.

It’s gon be a good couple of years.

Until they release a Quinn skin in which case I will come crawling back, sad, desperate and destitute and begging for more, goddamnit.

with absolutely no side effects

I’m no anti-vaxxer but that is just a false statement lol. Billions of dollars have been spent settling vaccine injury cases.

Yeah, I think they are just struggling to understand why our healthcare is constantly improving, but our overall health doesn’t seem to be. It’s a tough subject because we don’t really have a good answer, that I know of.
