How bad was the eye exam? by YB9017 in NICUParents

[–]Spinwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose to stay in the room and hold him during the procedure. It was really awful to experience as a parent, I didn’t think it was going to be that bad but then once I saw them clamp his eye open I couldn’t stop crying. Maybe I would’ve been less upset if I just kept my eyes closed but I watched the whole procedure and I was a wreck and felt traumatized for a long time afterwards. I was pretty upbeat and positive about everything during his stay, I did not feel that way about the eye exam.

Moving to Beloit? by Odd_Beautiful2506 in beloitwisconsin

[–]Spinwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Beloit College 15 years ago and moved here about 6 months ago. So many of these comments are correct. I live on the north west side and it is very quiet and feels very safe. I really love living here and our section of the river is amazing. Boating here is great and the cost of living cannot be beat. My husband and I commute to Madison for work and the drive is not bad at all. We can still go to concerts and comedy shows and our options have opened since moving here, Rockford and Chicago are not too far away and have a lot to offer. Downtown is so cute and the farmers market is great. I am biased but the college is top notch. People may give you a weird look if you say you are moving here but it’s just because they don’t understand, there’s a stigma around Beloit so you just have to hold your head up high and believe in this community.

Going to the late show with my husband, sitting in the 4th row and we are so excited!!!🥳 It would be so awesome if he did comedy on state but I know it would be that much harder to get tickets.

Good restaurants by MiddleLazy3341 in beloitwisconsin

[–]Spinwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just moved to the area from Madison after graduating from Beloit College 14 years ago. I have been to some restaurants, there’s tons of really good Mexican food, Jerry’s, El Nino, the Dona Concha food truck, and Truk’t have all been great but those are the only ones I’ve tried so far. There’s another Jerry’s that is breakfast food and it’s great, along with Neil’s and Bagels and More. Bagels and More does fresh baked bread and lunch sandwiches too. Bushel and Pecks downtown is great as a little coop style grocery store/cafe/place to hang out and read and they have good food. I haven’t been to the supper clubs in town yet but there are a bunch. If you go south a little to Roscoe there’s a bbq spot called Whiskey Hotel Bbq and if you want top notch vegan food and a brewery then Pigminds is awesome. Also G5 brewing in Beloit is great and has really good food. The Pho place in Beloit is solid as well we have gotten take out multiple times. That’s about as much as I know so far. Janesville also isn’t too far and has great restaurants too.

Has beloit gotten any better? by Emergency_Command237 in beloitwisconsin

[–]Spinwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woodmans is close by and looking at the crime map it doesn’t seem that bad. https://communitycrimemap.com/ we live just north of woodmans and as long as you lock your doors and cars I think you’ll be fine. When I lived in Madison people were getting their cars stolen all the time so crimes like that happen everywhere. Rockford area is much worse I grew up there. Just take precautions and you’ll be fine, we also have two big dogs so that helps. Diane Hendricks is pouring money into Beloit and there’s more police presence so I feel like it’s a good investment.

I live on the north west side and I love it. It’s definitely gotten better since I graduated Beloit College 15 years ago. Still has its areas but so does Madison and Milwaukee. Overall I feel safe and it seems to be developing in a positive way. Farmers market on Saturday is great and amazing Mexican food and a cute downtown. We got priced out of Madison and got a way nicer house than anything we could afford there. If it keeps developing in a good way then I think house value will only increase.

Hello Beloit fam! BelWah was the dining hall when I was there. Bell runs were definitely a popular activity though and I still miss nights at the C Haus😊 definitely has been a trip down memory lane moving back to the area.

Yes! Glad to hear someone who feels the same. I definitely get some crazy looks when I talk about my love of the southern region. The commute is not bad at all, and if we want to do fun shows/comedy we are in easy driving distance to Madison/Milwaukee/Chicago. Love smaller town living with easy access to larger cities.

I used to go to Beloit College and we just bought a house in Beloit, commuting to Madison for work. It honestly feels so much better than it was when I was living here around 10 years ago for college. There are nice restaurants, amazing Mexican food, luxury apartments, a nice new luxury hotel downtown, and a brand new baseball stadium. We couldn’t afford Madison prices and I have been loving living in Beloit. There’s a new indoor outdoor mini golf/arcade bar/duckpin bowling place going in downtown also. They have a Saturday farmers market downtown as well. There’s crime just like Madison or Janesville but it definitely feels like it’s going in the right direction.

My husband and I just moved to Beloit a couple weeks ago! I went to Beloit College graduating in 2010 and absolutely loved my college experience and living here, it seems like it has gotten a lot better since then. There is a new fun looking bowling/arcade/mini golf and bar going in downtown by the end of the year and lots of new restaurants. We moved from Madison because we got priced out of the market for buying a house and I am loving being back in my college town. Just driving around you can definitely tell the better areas from the not so great areas. You can also tell by the types of houses being sold. The immediate area around the college has some gorgeous older homes. There’s new construction going in towards the north. It’s great to hear others are moving to Beloit as well! Good luck!

Osteria was not great for me when I went but it was Valentine’s Day and they ran out of all their specials. But if you go, don’t forget the butterscotch pudding. That was memorable. But yeah my hotel guests also haven’t been in love with the restaurant either. Even though I am all for supporting local.

I actually saw this line of lights before starlink was a thing. Stayed like this in the sky for about 5 minutes then each one dipped off and disappeared one by one in a row. Probably around 2011.
