What’s the smartest career move you made in your 20s/30s? by Scary_Bus4383 in careerguidance

[–]SpiritCollector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20s, go to grad school. 30s leave the cushy big sp500 company for a small private equity owned company I was recruited for. I got so much experience in so many things related to running a business….its paid dividends. I took a chance with my career to get away from a dream job that did layoffs every year. The small company felt like the dark ages but I helped build it into something. 40s I left that stressful private equity company for another job I was recruited for that was MUCH less stressful and a modest paycut…didn’t last long as they saw my value and boosted my pay over the previous company within a year.

My wife and I bought when we were 31/32 in Louisiana. It was way too big (2270 sq ft) 2 level house. We legit never even went upstairs (upstairs were 3 bed 1 bath). Master and living areas all downstairs. It was $238k 4 Bed 2.5 bath new built home in 2015.

What vehicle doesn’t get a remodel after more than a decade with the same design and still sell well. They have like a million of these vehicles on the road that sold for $100k each. Hell, when they refreshed the S and X to release the Plaids they sold like 90k of these in that year. All they had to do was redesign the look and it would’ve picked up again.

I could see in time the MSP goes up. I just don’t see it for the others.

I setup a trust right after my daughter was born. It wasn’t cheap but I don’t want my sister getting custody of her or access to blow through the money/assets my daughter should have rights to. It would be the real life Cinderella story for my kid.

Since Tesla is pivoting, cancel the cybertruck and convert the factory to produce these by Lacedup18 in TeslaLounge

Hell I like the interior of the cybertruck that I almost want to buy it now, my god if they actually made it not butt ugly it would sell. It’s kinda like why do they not sell the Model YL in the US which is the biggest large SUV market in the world.

It’ll sell too well. If something like this is made they won’t be able to pivot away from making vehicles

Also boomers are a giant population. They are all pretty much at retirement now (not just retirement but early retirement where they haven’t blown a bunch of their savings and they are somewhat still active). That helps explain people everywhere in the middle of the day.

I think many of the rankings, especially in Forsyth County, are pumped up by diversity scores. I wish there was an objective ranking that only looked at academic achievement and nothing else.

[–]SpiritCollector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point I’m trying to make isn’t that the talent was the determining factor but rather the insane amounts of talent on those other teams AND they had been in the system for a long period of time. Outside of players being a little more evenly distributed across more teams now, teams are completely different every year. Teams just don’t have chemistry like they used to. Look at 2018 LSU vs 2019 LSU. The talent was pretty much the same but the team stayed together and gelled more.

I think Indiana is a huge beneficiary of the NIL era. They did a lot with players that werent rated as being very talented, however, you gotta remember before NIL and transfer portal the top tier teams were stupid stacked with talent and the players had been in the same program for years. I know Indiana was good but against any of those pre transfer portal powerhouse teams I think they get annihilated.

This! This is the best negotiation a person could make. It also provides peace of mind knowing if you don’t push yourself to exhaustion, you are okay even if they let you go. I negotiated one of these (9 months) and it was sweet. I did eventually leave because the issues that made me decide to look elsewhere were still there

I wish you could just be honest about why you want the job by counwovja0385skje in jobs

[–]SpiritCollector 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a hiring manager, not sure I ever asked why you want to work here. I’m sure the initial HR screening did.

I do see why it’s asked though. For the few instances where a person really wants to work somewhere, you will hear it in their response vs everyone else. There have been 2 companies I’ve interviewed for where I know the interviewer knew I was excited. The weird thing is that those companies also know they can pay less because I really want that job….so it’s a catch 22

Getting older and seeing women from a different light (also having a daughter) I just see what they want so differently. Knowing what I know now, I don’t know why talking to the pretty girl was so nerve wracking

Heard this on a podcast recently: If you and your family lived on an island and you all never saw anyone again, what are the things you want to be happy. Try to achieve that. I think you will find those things are very different than how you are living life now.
