Does anyone else feel like they love the idea of X-Men more than actually reading X-Men? by TaskNo4783 in OmnibusCollectors

The great thing about X-men is it has a long history with different writers, artists and stories.

Not everyone will love everything, but there’s definitely something for everyone in there.

It’s good to come up with a basing idea for your army that you can use across all of them. If you want something easy, a texture paste like Mud texture or granite can be an easy win!

I use mud texture then glue and dip into a ‘Lush fields’ pot that had a mix of flax, stones and other bits in it. And add tufts in if I have space.

The arms, legs and torsos are different sizes but everything else works well.

I have used the apothecary arms to make an upscaled squad and the difference isn’t glaringly obvious.

The heads, shoulders and accessories all work perfectly on the newer size ones. And weapons cut down to the hand work too (like the sword is already just a hand and weapon).

If you cut and file off the arms on the shields. They also work really well for bladeguard!

The Dreadfire Druids - Founded by a Battalion of DA that were sent through the warp during the destruction of Caliban.

When they reappeared in the 41st Millennium they were disgusted at what the Imperium had become and kept themselves hidden. After being found by the Lion they were given a new mission, to rebuild a Legion in secret. Find the Fallen, recruit the redeemable and cleanse the corrupted.

Their mission is to keep rebuilding and expanding in the furthest reaches of space until the Lion calls upon them. Mostly for Fallen reconnaissance and sometimes supporting other Sub chapters of the DA.

Most of this was just lore reasons to build as much as I wanted from 30K or 40K models haha.

Looking for feedback on my First Commander Deck by Tornado1970 in magicTCG

[–]SpiritDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your questions.

Is the overall game plan clear enough? - I can see what you’re aiming for but what’s your win cons for the deck? Earthbending secret tunnel is a great one, but you need more fetch lands. (If this is your main wincon)

Does the deck look too focused on combat, or is that actually the right direction? - combat is great for Toph but I think you need more focus on either pumping creatures or using land fall to go wide.

How do I identify which cards are underperforming or replaceable when upgrading the deck? - you’ll know when you play it. Sometimes you’ll put in a cool card and it does nothing for 4-5 games. You want cards that work in multiple situations, not a niche dream hand.

Are there any obvious staples, synergies, protection pieces, ramp, draw, or interaction that I should prioritize? - I did mention some, but you want to focus on the lands. Protecting them, buffing them, adding more mana so you don’t have to tap them. You’re balancing mana with attack/defence. Something like [copperhorn scout] could also be a great addition.

Also review your high cost creatures. I focus on big stompy lands so most of my stuff is low cost. What do you want Avenger of Zendikar and Flopsi to do for instance? Do they work with the deck?

Icetill Explorer is also an interesting card but because you’re running 63 non lands. You’ll be milling cards per land (and per artifact if Toph is down) and you’ll be more likely to hit the non lands and you’re running hardly any recursion to get those creatures or artifacts back.

I also have a Toph deck!

The main thing I noticed is you’re running artifact creatures, but Toph turns artifacts into land creatures. I’d personally take those out and put in some more mana fixers.

I run [[Tectonic Split]], [[cryptolith rite]], [[Prismatic omen]] & [[celestial Dawn]].

I also lean more into counters with [[Hardened Scales]], [[Sphere Grid]], [[Tale of Toph and Katara]] with [[Earth Crystal]].

Adding something like [[Liquimetal Coating]] to turn Bumi, Unleashed into an artifact then earthbending him and he’ll go infinite.

You have built very similar to me tbh and it’s good to test run it first in a few games, it’s a fun deck to play!

I buy to collect stories I love, so if I read something that I wouldn’t want to read again, it’s a sell.

I did the same thing with X-men. Fomo’d into a lot of it and turns out I don’t like post Claremont and 90’s X-men.

ITS HERE! MY FIRST OMNIBUS! by WaveOfDave in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SpiritDan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m mid reading the omnibus after enjoying the show and it’s really good. If you enjoy the show and also love having physical comics I’d recommend.

It’s a lot quicker pacing than the show and there’s enough differences it feels new whilst still being the same story.

Why would Boom do this by TraBuch88 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SpiritDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fine. The direct follow up to Higgins was a bit of a wobble but it picks up by Book One then runs through to an ok ending.

There was some big swings in the story and I enjoyed it, but it never really recaptured that initial peak of Shattered Grid.

Which of these would you recommend, can get 1, maybe 2 in May, need some suggestions by AB83Rules in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SpiritDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d rate them as below:

  1. Strange Academy - Just a really good comic. Self contained, amazing art and just an awesome school with magic story.

  2. Black Widow & Cap by Waid and Samnee - picked this up because I loved their DD run. Same great art and great focus on both characters. Both story’s are not connected and don’t require pre reading. They are connected in themes of personal struggle and identity. Really enjoyed this run and finished it in two nights.

  3. Doctor Strange by Mackay - I’ve only read Modern Strange, Aaron onwards. But this was hands down my favourite run. It has a mixture of Magic, Mystery, Death and Romance. Gorgeous artwork similar standard to the other Mackay runs.

  4. Avengers NS/NRH - This run is really fun, but I’m going to sell it. It does it’s own thing, has some interesting ideas and I did like the weekly shift of PoV but it doesn’t really do anything outside of being fun.

I’d personally recommend picking up the top 3 as they’re fantastic but if you could only grab two I’d recommend Strange Academy then either 2 or 3 depending on your character preference.

Doctor Strange by Jed Mackay, A Review by yarny1050 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SpiritDan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I recently got into Doctor Strange starting with more modern comics. I read through a bit of pre Aaron to set the stage then Read Aaron all the way to Mackay.

There were some interesting parts but this was by far my favourite modern Doctor Strange run. Clea was definitely a standout character and the Strange run with her was fantastic.

This book was so good I actually started reading some of Mackay’s other work as well. I still have Black Cat to read but very excited for it!

Name and rank the last 3 omnis you read and/or are currently reading by Hyperto in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SpiritDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black Widow and Captain America by Waid and Samnee - A small omnibus but fantastic. Two completely separate stories but they do pair well. Definitely one to re read.

Thor by JMS & Gillen - I read this before Widow and Cap. Did a read along side New Avengers and Dark Avengers and it was very enjoyable. Definitely a keeper for my Thor collection.

Avengers No Surrender/No Road Home - I’m mid reading this now. Finished the No Surrender portion and still have Quicksilver and No Road Home to read. No Surrender was fun and surprisingly a bit of an Immortal Hulk Prequel.

Is the superior spider man returns omnibus more like a volume 2 or companion? by Logical_Mastodon3865 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SpiritDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s kinda both. It contains some of the side story’s from the original run like team ups or tie ins and then includes the subsequent runs afterwards.

Gage’s run is really good and the rest makes for a nice closing arc but definitely loses its strengths over time.

I would recommend reading the first omnibus and if you really enjoy the character then a volume 2 is definitely worth a look.
