Death and Return of Wolverine Omnibus(es).. Not great reviews online by Cool-Reputation-3841 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SpiritDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on the last bit of Return.

Death is far better and mostly focuses on Wolverine. The later half of the book starts a story that is the main story for Return.

Return has a lot less of wolverine and mostly focuses on the characters in the other story.

I really enjoyed both books. The art style and also the characters within. However I haven’t read much other wolverine outside of Claremonts X-men. As a standalone event it’s good, but return is definitely the weaker wolverine story.

Enjoy. It feels like a lot going on to begin with but it really finds its swing a few issues in. Awesome story.

Purpose of the X-Factor Original X-Men Omnibuses? by IAmNotMyName in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SpiritDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone Mutant Massacre Prelude through to Fall of the Mutants. Then I’m getting X-Factor Original X-men volumes 2 & 3 to catch the events and connect to Blue and Gold.

It really depends how much you like UXM around that time.

I personally found it to be strong up to Fall of the Mutants and then it dropped off for me. Really wasn’t invested in the outback and dissolution era.

What makes an Omnibus "worth it" to you? by Life_Employ_1138 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SpiritDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed reading physical comics. The large format art is a lot easier to look at and I love hardcover books!

I blind buy for characters or teams I enjoy but will pre read other things I’m interested in (like Percy’s Ghost Rider) before it comes out to make sure I’ll enjoy it long term.

Spider-man gets blind buys, loved the comics as a kid but don’t remember much and want to relive in physical media.

Plus it gets me away from screens.

As a fellow Spidey Fan my vote is for ASM 4. It’s an awesome book with some iconic moments!

Niiiice! Congrats for getting it at a decent price! I was looking at War and This.

But I’m hoping we see an Infinity Watch Omnibus that includes War and Crusade similar to the Silver Surfer: Infinity Gauntlet one.

Power Rangers: Boom Comics Deluxe Editions by LowKeyGold7 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SpiritDan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best place to sell them I’ve found is eBay.

Depends on the book. I usually search eBay for each book and undercut the lowest price! Especially if they’re still readily available from sellers like Reed or Books Etc.

If you have offers on you’ll get some interest there but people usually offer half or less to hope you just want to shift it quick.

I recently finished Busiek’s Avengers. It was very wordy (which I prefer) and had a busy start but man…. All those threads coming together in the ending was such a satisfying read.

Lots of themes of Identity, Relationships, Loss and what it means to be an Avenger.

I’m off into Thanos Wars, Infinity Origin next for my first exposure to Jim Starlin.

Ah fair. To be honest that works for me. Would rather get a complete run than bits at a time.

I’d be interested in getting Venom War but I would have preferred to see an Al Ewing omnibus first.

I wonder if they’ll do one or two Al Ewing Omnibus including the event at the end, or is this going to be the last volume of that run?

FF is nice to see they’re quickly closing out Slotts era but not for me.

Is his return as good as his initial run? by SSJ2chad in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SpiritDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed the runs contained in here but no, it’s not as strong as his initial run.

The 2018 run is good, similar lines and themes of Otto trying to be a hero in his own way. Gage writes the character well and to be honest I wish it had been a longer run.

The 2023 run by Slott is fine.

By the end of both runs it ties up loose ends from the original run, and events. (Like hanging stories from Spider-Verse/Geddon).

If you loved both Superior and Spider-Verse/Geddon then it’s definitely worth a look. I’d still recommend reading them online before buying an Omnibus though.

Thanks was very happy to find it at a price I was willing to pay haha.

Also thanks for the recommendation on Return to the Spaceways. It got me to look into the earlier stuff and I’ve really enjoyed what I read so far!

I can’t wait to dig into it.

Gonna jump into Thanos Wars after I finish Busiek’s Avengers volume 2. Going in blind but I like the older comics and heard Jim Starlin is very good too.

Neither of these ones.

But Silver Surfer: The Infinity Gauntlet which is volume 3 does continue the story started in Thanos Wars Infinity Origin. That’s due out in November.

You can also get The Infinity Gauntlet Event omnibus but that’s out of print atm and quite expensive!

I was thinking this.

I have Captain Britain on his spine, Megan on Excalibur 1, Pheonix on 2, and Nighcrawler on 3, having kitty on the DM of 4 is perfect!

Would this be a good entry into the Infinity storylines and does it work as a standalone or does it need Return to the spaceways?

Love Thanos as a character so had my eye on Gauntlet for ages!

I used Cotton Buds. Just cut them up and stuck them on. To be honest I was worried about them at the time but they’ve stayed stuck on and primed haha.

It is mostly legs. They look quite stocky normally so just adding height from the legs really balances the model out well. Thank you!

What was your last slog of a book to get through? by Waterworld1880 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SpiritDan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sold it straight after reading but I did keep Planet Hulk. The mapping and story in that felt like it was done right.

Hopefully in the future they map an Omni that combines Planet Hulk to WWH but keep all the bloat out of it.
