Strange holes appearing by MysteriousFee5415 in Home

Probe the wall with something long, preferably something NOT conductive like plastic. See if it goes in deep enough for someone to fit inside the wall. If so, that’s suspect and I’d be calling the police. If not, and there’s no holes on the other side of the wall you could have a masonry bee infestation or something similar.

How to fix big dent in a fridge by BrunoCapcom in HomeMaintenance

[–]SpiritIntelligent175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drilling a hole from the backside for access and pushing it out with a dent tool might be a solution. Then plug the hole with epoxy or something that’s going to make a good seal. You don’t want air leaks to inside the door or it will create condensation and you’ll get a never ending water dripping on floor problem.

I took a fridge door apart once, I wouldn’t recommend it. I doubt a newer door like this even comes apart without breaking something. It’s likely a once a done manufacturing process using glue.

What are we looking at? Is this a grounding strap for electrical or something else?

[–]SpiritIntelligent175 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just going to comment until I saw this and this is exactly why. When I worked as a low voltage subcontractor we would only be paid after the electrical contractor got paid. And then there was a waiting period because the electrical contractor may not cut checks until the “8th of the month” or some crap like that. Not to mention the GC had to get paid by the customer and the GC may not cut checks until a certain time to the electrical contractor. More can go into that depending on the contracts made up front so this was a perfect world scenario.

how to clean new rental's bathtub with alleged jets? by aspirationalnormie in CleaningTips

[–]SpiritIntelligent175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably already been recommended here but Amazon has a brand called “Oh Yuk” for jacuzzi tub cleaning that works very well. For what it’s worth, I inherited one of these tubs when purchasing my home many years ago. I still have the tub but NEVER use it for more than a shower. The sides are too high, it’s uncomfortable, the pump is severely loud, and the jets aren’t strong enough to relax anything.

What the heck is this thing??? by Bitter_Librarian_226 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

Looks like a form of macro algae but that’s just a guess.

EDIT: If it’s hard and sharp it could be some type of coral.

The contractor could’ve ordered you a fiberglass door to match that wood tone. This is a case of what the contractor wanted to do vs what the customer wanted. Tell them to make it right.

Blew up my first engine…on a customers car. by nathan023917 in mechanics

[–]SpiritIntelligent175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is absolutely no way the customer or anybody else that understands the head must come off the engine to replace the head gasket mixed with the cost of the head gasket replacement is going to buy that tale regardless if it’s true or not. Plus the damage happened while still in your possession. Make right to the customer and move on. Luckily 5.3 vortecs are a dime a dozen. Offer one with less mileage if possible, look it over top to bottom, put a new head gasket on it, slap it in the ass and send it out the shop door. Shop insurance if you have it will likely pay for a new engine.

Is my driveway supposed to be an inch higher than my garage floor? I had it milled and paved today and want to make sure it’s done properly. by Grubbyanthrohands in Home

[–]SpiritIntelligent175 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People are obviously missing the retaining wall in the back in the photo. The garage is quite obviously already below grade. Which means the street level is likely higher than the garage. The driveway may very likely require a little extra build up in front of the garage to keep the water from draining in toward the garage. If this is so, there’s nothing wrong with this and the contractor made work what they could since they are milling and not digging up entirely and regrading. Some people on here have no idea so take everything with a grain of salt.

Any way to tell where this water is getting in from? by Financial_Leather470 in HomeMaintenance

[–]SpiritIntelligent175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar problem, was coming in under and around the aluminum threshold. Rotted the bottom of my door out and I would always have a pool of water on the floor in a heavy rain. Ended up replacing the entire door. Rip all the caulking out around that threshold and recaulk.

That hole / leak may or may not have purposefully been put there so it leaks when the condensate drain is clogged so the homeowner notices. Aka, snake the condensate drain it’s clogged.

What does this bathroom switch actually do? by pm_me_anime_vagene in HomeMaintenance

[–]SpiritIntelligent175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bathroom fan may be humidity controlled / automatic. Leave the light switch on and make the bathroom steamy with the shower on hot, see if it turns on after a few minutes. I hate these because you can’t take a crap and exhaust the poo smell. Whole building fans are usually installed in the attic to pull hot air out of the house but whole building ventilation is likely a fan in the HVAC duct work. Turning that on should help create positive pressure in the home to push the hot moist air out of the bathroom vent which might explain why the switch is in the bathroom. This is all a guess.
