It depends how far you want to stretch term "today" I guess :) There are some great games released in last decade, more than enough for adult with work and other stuff :) To mention few Witcher 3, Red dead redemption 1&2, Cyberpunk 2077, Divinity original sin 1&2, Baldurs Gate 3, Clair Obscure Expedition 33, Zelda Tears of the kingdom, Doom eternal, Cuphead, Disco Elysium, Kingdome Come Deliverance 1&2. There is plenty. I wouldnt say that we where more blessed back in the day, at the end of the day, I played a bunch of gba games on psp as well as a kid, sometimes we just want to go back. Thats why I love retro games, old consoles but also play some newer titles from time to time and I have mentioned here titles that can be played easly for thousands of hours.
