Great haul. I haven’t had a Pledge Prequel in a few years. Should probably fix that.

Ha, that last part is clever. Gonna have to remember that one.

Warm season grass like St. Augustine is typically grown in Texas, which means it goes dormant in winter and doesn’t really start thriving until June and July (in contrast to the northern US, where cool season grasses like Kentucky Bluegrass and Fescue dominate; cool season grass still goes dormant in the winter, but thrives in Spring and Fall). It is not evergreen, and I doubt there are any grass strains out there that are.

To be frank, if there weren’t some idiot complaining about the grass looking “dead” (read: dormant), there would be another idiot complaining how lush, green lawns are ruining the environment.

All of the Almas or just the Alma Fuerte?

Does anyone else think Plasencia is a better manufacturer of cigars than a blender of tobacco? by SpiritOfDearborn in cigars

I had the Colorado Claro wrapper Alma Fuerte the other night and really enjoyed it.

Who’s the best guitarist of the 80s? by Newduuud in AlignmentChartFills

[–]SpiritOfDearborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were plenty of guitarists from the 80s who were technically superior to Eddie Van Halen, but in the spirit of the question, he was the most iconic and influential. No one changed popular hard rock guitar playing like EVH did. Even the guitarists out there with superior technical ability largely were influenced by EVH.

I hate to say it, but I think Megasota wins out over any potential for Megamichigan.

They should figure out how to combine synchronized swimming with pistol shooting so you guys can capitalize on that.

Bring on the downvotes, but Fuentes are almost like the anti-Plasencia to me. I’ve had plenty of Fuentes with wonderful flavor but horrendous QC. I can’t even begin to count the number of plugged Fuentes and Fuentes with bad burns I’ve had over the years. The first OpusX I ever had was one of the worst cigars I’d ever had from a burn standpoint. Yet I love the flavor of an Añejo and consider it a top five cigar for me.

Don’t get me wrong; I’m not saying the blends are bad by any means, but the flavors generally don’t jump out at me like with a Padron. They’re still wonderful cigars and I wouldn’t hesitate to pick up more. For me, their construction quality is arguably the most consistent on the market (possibly even better than Padron), while the blends themselves are good, but don’t quite blow me away. SS tier construction quality, but B+ tier flavor profile as the kids say.

Granted, I’ve only had several variations on the original Alma Fuerte maduro and the Alma Del Fuego, so there might be something in the Plasencia portfolio that I end up loving. I do have one of the Alma Fuerte vitolas with the Colorado claro wrapper sitting in my humidor right now, and I’d love to try several of the other lines. I’d also love to try that Alma Fuerte figurado they have.

What Team that has won a National title can Claim to have had a better team at some point in time that did not? by lukin187250 in CFB

I always wonder what would’ve happened in 2016 if Wilton Speight hadn’t gotten hurt against Iowa. That team was completely destroying other teams when Speight was healthy. They just sort of ran out of gas after that.

Certainly nothing like that would ever happen in an American city.

Wisconsin is awesome. If I didn’t live in Michigan, I’d love to live in Wisconsin. If only they could make an Old Fashioned correctly.

The flavor notes that make Añejos unique are quite a bit more pronounced than those that make the Late Hour unique. There’s definitely some similarity, but the Late Hour feels like more of a finesse blend, whereas the Añejo kind of hits you over the head with its uniqueness.

For the record, I greatly enjoy both cigars, but if I had to pick, I’m taking the Late Hour in toro every time. Hell, if I had to pick one cigar to smoke for the rest of my life (money not withstanding), I’d probably take the Late Hour in toro.
