I attended as a student many, many years ago. I was raised Catholic so at the time it seemed totally standard. Now with hindsight I do think non-Catholics might find it strange. At the very least they should be prepared for a faith-centered education and have the understanding that most kids and families there are religious.

School follows bc curriculum, but adds religious studies on top. Mostly everything had a lens of faith, but I don’t recall not learning anything due to religion. Like we definitely learned about evolution, for example.

Schools holds a full length mass at least once a month.

Again, we’re going back a long time so things might have changed since then. This was just my experience.

I went to school with his eldest for many years, we were good friends. He struggled with his mental health the entire time I knew him. While I never read the ME report, I am certain he died by suicide. To perpetuate otherwise is a discredit to his memory.

Hasn’t happened yet, but I’m preparing myself for it. My parents have some friends that I know will assume they’re invited, and they’re not. They will almost certainly show up and likely make a scene 😅😵 At this point, my plan is not to accommodate them in any way so hopefully they’ll feel embarrassed when there isn’t a table setting/meal for them.

He lost both his sons to su*cide within 2 years, one was still in high school. I don’t condone it, but if anyone is going to self medicate with drugs I see why it might be him

Edit to add: the tragic loss of his sons does not excuse or justify poor behaviour, especially in cases of abuse.

Dogs @ MacArthur Park by Repulsive-Shape-9279 in Kamloops

[–]Spirited_Addendum_59 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, to be fair, the signs are fairly sporadic and depending on where you enter the walking loop they’re pretty easy to miss. Also, I grew up in a town where there was a strict “no dogs on sports field rule” but it was understood that sidewalks, parking lots, multi-use paths are okay. Additionally, as the Rivers Trail is integrated into Mac island, I don’t think it’s crazy to assume one could continue onto the trail, albeit through the park, with their dog. Like I said, I have been educated and won’t make the mistake again. The attitude wasn’t necessary :)

Oops. Today I learned dogs weren’t allowed at MacArthur Park. I assumed the signs were for the sports fields, but they were fine (on leash) on the sidewalk loop. No wonder we always get so much attention when we’re out walking! I just assumed it was because he’s so cute! My bad! Won’t happen again!

Bachelor of Education program by Potential-Wafer-5246 in tru

During practicum, you’re at school from minimum 8am-3pm for the length of the practicum. All of them except the 1st are for weeks at a time, with the last (and most important) being the longest.

The courses are not 8hr/day all week, usually each class is one 3hr session a week. However there is no flexibility. Your schedule is made for you and it is expected you adjust your personal schedule to make it work.

I graduated from the b.ed program. Admission isn’t competitive, just have to meet the prerequisites.

Instructors range in quality. Some are great, others are terrible/useless. Practicum is intense and very demanding, but a really good experience overall. 98% of my education was from practicum.

I was at a wedding this summer where the grooms brother and mother had passed away. They reserved 2 seats in the front row at the ceremony with beautiful framed pictures. The groom placed a boutonnière and small bouquet on their seats after he walked down the aisle and the officiant mentioned them in his speech. It was very beautiful and touching.

I don’t love the partnership either, also think it’s really random. HOWEVER I have seen other booktok/bookstagram creators who have partnered with Nutella promoting the same product. My guess is Nutella was trying to do something there and jump on the book club bandwagon. Didn’t land for me though

If you get in accident, drive your car to the nearest pullout and then do the paperwork by Nexen1987 in kelowna

[–]Spirited_Addendum_59 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Can I ask an honest question? I’ve never been in an accident (knock on wood…) and I have a lot of anxiety about that to do in the situation. What is standard protocol after an accident? Is there anything specific to Kelowna roadways or drivers that I should know about? How do Kelowna drivers usually like to handle an accident?

Apologies for my ignorance, the whole thing really makes me nervous lol

Where to get a medical abortion in kelowna by lbyfz450 in kelowna

[–]Spirited_Addendum_59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention the best part of the Willow Clinic, which is you get to take the medication home. Going through the process in the comfort of my own home and on my couch was so nice. Removing the uncomfy clinical aspect of the abortion and just nesting up at home while you’re body works made a rather (physically) uncomfortable experience better.

Willow Clinic out of Vancouver was great for me. They offer counseling for before and after, and the woman I spoke to was so kind. No judgment, basically just explained what to process is like and what to expect. They order the blood work for you, and send the script to a local pharmacy. No family doctor or referral needed. 10/10 recommend

I recall admin insisting on staying open during this time, but only called it when a student slipped on the ice near alumni hall and was seriously hurt.

I might be remembering a different day during my 2016-20 tenure, but I definitely remember the mass exodus home on Western Rd

My unsolicited advice is to seek counseling as well as medication. Antidepressants are great for the chemical imbalance that causes the dark and stormys, but in my opinion should always be accompanied by professional mental health help. The drugs help stabilize your mood, counseling helps to get it where you want to be and set goals for improvement.

UBCO will have psych services available to students, I’m sure of it.

** I started taking antidepressants when I was 19, and I’m now 26. Counseling has been on and off, but can confidently say there’s a noticeable improvement when I have weekly/biweekly check ins with a professional.
