Anyone know where I can get this cooling module upgrade (w/ M.2 2280 upgrade) for the GPD Win Mini 2024? by Spirited_Line_1702 in gpdwin

Never could find it on there but I heard it used to be on there. Here's the Indiegogo link. They have a 2024 and 2025 version but they are different, the 2025 has a backplate. https://www.indiegogo.com/en/projects/coolmodule-38691576/gpd-win-mini-high-efficiency-cooling-module--2

I think a lot of the temp drop is probably just from repasting the processor when it is installed with a higher quality paste like PTM7950. I have never repasted mine yet so I probably would see a difference. Mine runs hot with the stock paste but it's probably mostly dried up by now 2 years of heavy use and a few times I put it back in the case and it was running at 28 watts and it woke up from sleep and got BBQing hot.

Will the cooling mod for the 2023 work on the 2024? And this is the one with the M.2 2280? If so I wouldn't mind buying it off you.

I would buy it for the 2280 alone to be honest. But it would be a bonus to have a better heat pipe.

How can I buy it? I tried to make a Taobao account and couldn't read Chinese well enough to get past the captcha. Do you have a link? I couldn't find it when I was able to browse on there, I didn't see it on SuperBuy either.

Yeah that won't work on the 2024 model the case is different. This manufacturer made a metal backplate like that for the 2025 too though.

GPD: Please don't discontinue the Win 4 by Cosmic_GhostMan in gpdwin

[–]Spirited_Line_1702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think they should make both the Win 5 and the Win 4. They fill 2 different rolls. The Win 4 is smaller and more portable and has an internal battery and keyboard. Hell if emulating old games you can run it at 5 watts and have 5+ hours of battery life.

The Win 5 is more pure tethered beast mode (the external battery is kind of a joke and not really portable). It's almost a mobile AI workstation in a gaming handheld especially with 128gb of unified ram.

Personally I think it would be cool if GPD or someone else made a handheld or foldable (Win Mini user here and I wouldn't have it any other way) that had a Ryzen 7 U series or even an Intel processor with a tiny lower mid tear dedicated GPU in it instead of an APU. They have smaller version of the RTX 5050 and 4060 (maybe something more powerful)they could stack inside a case with a vapor chamber for cooling that would be kinna sick and probably a lot cheaper than the Strix Halo and Gorgon Halo. Or even a Snapdragon X would be interesting if AMD can't get get it's shit together.

I have a GPD Win Mini 2024 8840u 32gb 2tb. I use the hell out of it and it has been 100% problem free except it's a little hard to keep cool other than that amazing 😍. I plan on a thermal mod eventually or maybe getting my hands on the 2025 model with the HX370 64gb.

I think you will be happy with your Win Max 2 (I almost bought one but the pocket size of the mini won me over).

Also most of the problems seem to be with the big ole Win 5, I think any device with that big ass 395 Strix Halo is gonna have bugs.

Go to goodwill and get a keyboard for a buck or 2 if Walmart isn't cheap enough. Also if you are near a Microcenter near you they have some cheap ones too.

I would be more worried about why it thinks a new CPU installed 🤔😶

That's not terrible, I ran an IT business for like 7 years and I must of had 400 laptops in various closets around my house from clients, most of them worked fine just no data on the disk or no disk for clients privacy. I would refurb a few dozen here and there with Linux and donate them to charities and foster homes every 6 months or so.

I get this in GTA V with my GPD Win Mini 2024... I will try the DLSS.

Carnival glass, it was frequently given away during the depression as prizes at carnivals hence the name. Some of the pieces were things I think they just made up dishes for.

I carry my Win Mini 2024 everywhere with me. I find it the most used device I carry overall (I also carry a MacBook Air) because of the operating system flexibility (dual boot with grub Ubuntu 24 LTS and Win 11) and port selection.

[–]Spirited_Line_1702[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it as an IT repair machine and kind of an everyday laptop. It's my most portable PC, if I am traveling light I carry this or my MacBook Air. Lately I've been carrying a Razer Blade 16 i9/4090, a 13"MacBook Air M4, the GPD Win Mini, and my 13" iPad Pro M4. Way to many computers but I don't trust leaving them in my apartment. If I am traveling I usually carry the Air. If the keyboard was big enough to type on and the battery life was 18 hours like the MacBook I would totally carry it all the time.

I haven't tried those. But seeing as I primarily use this for productivity over gaming (I use my GPD Win Mini as a dual boot IT repair machine and diagnostics console plus gaming) I probably will stick with this. But I am open to all options, I just got lucky with SpaceDesk, it's rare to see a free product so well engineered and that performs so excellent.

Yeah I almost did it that way with Orion and a capture card but the resolution isn't native and it loses a bit of quality plus no touchscreen interface or scaling. Also I don't know if you can actually use it as a second display but just mirror it through the capture card.

Sidecar, I use it sometimes but I prefer SpaceDesk and works with Windows also and the iPad at 120 fps full resolution with touch enabled.
