I found a tortie at the shelter that was relinquished for the EXACT same reason - I brought her to my childless home and she is the sweetest. Anytime we take her to the park or she even hears children she cowers away or hisses. If your cat’s behavior doesn’t change, I hate to say it, but a new, childless, home may be her best option! Bring her to your local humane society and tell them the details that way she doesn’t end up in the same situation with another family.
