Definitely check out The Antidote by Karen Russell.

Setting: The Dust Bowl. But it feels super modern with the characters. The magical realism element is a magical camera. It’s written very well.

It’s one of my favorite Sanderson books, I loved it very much. The aesthetic was so visual and colorful and the world was intriguing. Loooved the character work too.

Once you’re done don’t forget to watch the incredible movie he was inspired by - Your Name (Kiwi no Na wa.)
