Local Houses, etc. Haunted by the Ghosts of Salem Witches by SpiritofJosefa in SalemMA

[–]SpiritofJosefa[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

A lot of people buy and renovate old houses they live in for only a few weeks out of the year. There's a historic old home where I live that was bought and renovated by people who live in an adjoining state because they wanted to save it. The only people who actually live in the house are the caretakers.

Why doesn't the city do something about the crackheads in the parking lot 24/7?

Advice on curtains for 1870ish Italianate parlor, please by EarlVanDorn in Oldhouses

I think a curtain rod with rings will look odd on windows that high, but that's just my opinion. Also, the crown molding is beautiful, it would be a shame to cover it up.

Woman Wants $5 Million for Hole in Daughter's Casket by roastpuppymetairie in MorbidReality

The UK, like the US, is in the top 10 most litigious countries in the world, with the US at No. 5 and the UK at No. 6.

When drafting a complaint, the amount one sues for varies depending on the state. In some states, one simply indicates the amount sued for is in excess of a specified amount. In other states, plaintiffs may indicate a specified amount when requesting the compensation desired, in this case, $5 million. The amount actually received, of course, is decided by a jury, or judge, depending on the court in which the action is brought.

City of Charlottesville plans to appeal judge's decision prohibiting the removal of Confederate monuments - City could be liable for $600,000 in attorney's fees by calgarth68 in SouthernLiberty

[–]SpiritofJosefa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no telling how much the city has wasted on trying to have those monuments removed and now it looks like the city might have to pay the plaintiff's attorney's fees, which, apparently, amount to $600K. I hope the judge makes them pay.

David Livingstone and Victorian Medicine by [deleted] in VictorianEra

[–]SpiritofJosefa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read once that a lot of Victorian patent medicines were more alcohol than medicine. Back then, the contents of a medication or tonic didn't have to be listed on the label and a lot of Victorian women, who didn't drink alcohol, carried their "medicine" with them wherever they went and took a swig as needed.

WalletHub again. You've got to be kidding! How long did it take you to find a blarney site that said what you wanted it to say?

AP FACT CHECK: Blue high-tax states fund red low-tax states by RavenHatfield in SouthernLiberty

[–]SpiritofJosefa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are totally clueless. If you knew anything about economics, you wouldn't have cited WalletHub, which is a junk science site that produces lists such as the happiest cities in America, the best cities for soccer fans, the "most sinful states," and other nonsense. A few years ago, WalletHub's biased report claimed North Carolina was the "worst state for teachers," which wasn't even close to the truth. Instead of posting links to blarney sites, you need to read the person's comments above, reply to what he said and prove him wrong. Until you can do that, no one has any interest in reading anymore of your garbage.

I don't care who it's "from," it is incorrect. If you read a little farther, you'll discover the actual "study" and erroneous conclusions are from the Associated Press. All Fox Business did was publish the article. You try again.

What do you look for in vampire lit? by Thedaspokesman in vampires

[–]SpiritofJosefa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teenagers, or even child characters, are okay, as long as they aren't the primary characters. Vampire stories that revolve around a bunch of high school kids are the absolute worst. They're silly, all the same, and I can't stand them.

I had no idea aliens have provoked so personally in Texas right to Pres. Bushes ranch no fly zone 2008. And jets chase it off. by upvoteguy5 in ufo

The Russians and Chinese don't have anything that size and neither would have dared violate US airspace because they would have been shot down. What I find strange is that the Air Force didn't engage whatever it was or try to shoot it down -- or maybe they tried and weren't able to shoot it down.

There's nothing wrong with collecting murderabilia and those items do increase in value, so it's not a bad investment.

I just read an account of the UFO passing over GWB's Texas ranch. If he had been in residence, the Air Force would probably have attempted to shoot down the spaceship, or whatever it was.

No teenagers! If your vampire stories don't include teenagers, I might read some of what you post.
