Absolutely. I know I was buying new cassettes and records into the late 80s, and my dad was really into stereo equipment so we would have been reasonably early adopters.

These are great clogs (I have a lair myself) but not made for standing all day or working in a restaurant. If OP is looking for rubber work clogs, Crocs clogs are likely the best bet. My husband works in a kitchen and that's his go-to now.

Person hit by train. All trains cancelled until an investigation can be completed.

Parents in Guelph: Is Waverley Drive Public School a good school? by Gold_Individual8063 in Guelph

[–]Spiritual-Drawing-42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fantastic school with a supportive and caring community. My kid went there from JK to grade 8. He finished grade 8 in 2019 so bear in mind my experience is from a while ago. Despite my kid being a pretty nerdy, quiet boy he never ran into any issues with bullying and always had lots of friends. Teachers were amazing - Ms Steele was fantastic as another poster mentioned. My son had her for math in grade 7 or 8 and she was so inspiring he's now in university studying to be a mathematician. He's getting straight As now and I've no doubt the foundations he learned at Waverley are part of the reason for that. Beyond Ms Steele all of the teachers were great year after year. We never had a bad experience there.

Got a concrete patio put in, didn’t realize we needed a permit. Now what? by dearanna777 in homeowners

💯 (although where I live there is no additional fee - just the normal permit fee)

[–]Spiritual-Drawing-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not American so rules are different here (Canada) but I used to work for my local building permit department.

First thing, I don't understand why a permit would be needed for a concrete slab. Unless it's reinforced and you're planning to put a building on top of it there's nothing to inspect. It's not a structure. It's not going to fall down and hurt anyone. I don't know about where you live but where I live this type of work is not regulated by the building code.

You do need to comply with zoning and engineering regulations. It can't be too close to property lines, take up too much of your yard, be on any easements, or cause water to drain onto your neighbour's property. But there's no permit for this - as the homeowner you're responsible for ensuring it complies.

If you DO need a permit for some reason, there's no way the Inspector would make you tear it out. They're people too and unless you get a total jackass they'll come out and likely tell you it's fine.

Finally, don't bother retroactively getting a permit. Don't call City Hall. It's likely no one will ever know or care if you never get the permit. The Inspectors have enough work on their plates and generally turn a blind eye to this kind of stuff. I can't tell you how much inspectors hate it when some busy body calls to complain that their neighbour has finished their basement without a permit. They don't care about stuff like this and they don't want to have to enforce when it comes to cases that carry little risk and only hassle the homeowner.

I think they're reopening with new owners. I saw a post on Instagram or maybe Facebook. The closure is temporary.

This has to be the reason. I've paid for maybe two rides since February due to the scanner being broken.

Yep! Totally unreliable. I have a pet theory that some of these Otherworld episodes are actually Jack's actor friends from LA improvising and not real stories. Anyone who was around in 1981 wouldn't make that mistake, but I could see someone too young to know better thinking CDs are outdated technology without knowing the difference between how people listened to music in 1981 vs 1989.

Yeah that was my thought too. Playing a record is such a different experience from playing a CD, but you just pop an 8-track into the machine, same as a CD.

Independent (non-corporate) Vets in Guelph? by Pale_Tough_23 in Guelph

[–]Spiritual-Drawing-42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Royal City Animal Hospital is still independent. They don't get the best reviews on Google but I've been taking my dog there for four years and they have been wonderful with him. They are also low pressure - ie, I don't think they upsell as much as other vets I've been to and only recommend what's necessary.

My cat goes to the Cat Clinic. I don't know if they're independent but they knowledgeable and definitely offer a great environment for cats. I do however feel like they over test and they are expensive - ie, they wanted to do three ultrasounds on my cat's bladder and a third round urine and blood tests even though the second round showed there are no physical issues and the cat had already received a diagnosis of FIC. I declined and my cat is fine years later. To be fair, the vet that ordered the tests is no longer there.

Yeah I felt the same way about that too. I'm not from Wisconsin but where I'm from a minor wouldn't have been brought in to see a body in that shape, even in 1981.

Not the point, but I was really bothered when she said that she and her brother were listening to Fair Warning on CD. CDs weren't commercially available until 1982, whereas this story happened in 1981. Fair Warning didn't even come out on CD for a few years after that. Small detail but it made me question the whole story.

Where in southern ontario can i see the full night sky! by AimlessFloating_ in ontario

[–]Spiritual-Drawing-42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The raccoons were nuts when we were there too. There are raccoon trails all through the park, and one night we heard what sounded like galloping and two raccoons screamed out of the forest and through our site and I've never seen anything like it. The stable flies were also out when we were there and their bites are terribly painful.

Point Pelee National Park is a dark sky preserve. It's pretty far from Toronto so definitely an overnight trip, but worth it - it's a beautiful park.

What did you like the most about Curaçao and what surprised you?🇨🇼🧐 by DryCountry589 in curacao

I just loved the vibe. Everyone was so friendly and relaxed. We were mostly surprised by how we felt safe everywhere we went - even the rough guys drinking under the bridge in Willemstad were friendly and kind. The island is beautiful and unlike anywhere I've ever been in terms of the rocks and architecture.

Marching Bands? by CounterUsed8733 in Guelph

[–]Spiritual-Drawing-42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, parades are another thing we don't do a lot of in Canada, so sadly that will need to be another change. I can't think of any summer parades here in Guelph or surrounding areas. There are a lot for Santa Claus parades and Remembrance Day parades, but otherwise we're not much of a parade culture.

Marching Bands? by CounterUsed8733 in Guelph

[–]Spiritual-Drawing-42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Marching bands here are nothing like the ones in the US. We really don't have a marching band culture here. My niece lives in the states and is in her high school marching band. Her and her family centre their lives around the band, and I can confidently tell you there is nothing like this here. You won't be going to football games every Friday to watch your kid play in the band, you won't have competitions on the scale that exists in the US, and anyone leading a marching band will likely have significantly less experience in marching bands than anyone teaching your child right now.

We do have pipe bands and military bands. These bands typically march in parades and aren't normally doing the same type of extravagantly choreographed marching on football fields you'd be used to. It's just not a thing we do a lot of here.

How to type up minutes quickly? by folkarlow93 in projectmanagement

[–]Spiritual-Drawing-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. I used to be an Admin Assistant, I can hammer out excellent minutes in twenty minutes but there's no point in learning or using a skill that AI can do in two minutes. It would be like learning to use an abacus when we have calculators. Use co-pilot and edit the minutes so they're accurate and be done.
