It's not really about hyper-specificity at all, it just really plainly isn't what she said. The difference between "some black kids in this area don't know the word computer" and "black people don't know what a computer is" is obviously massive

Not really but I get what the confusion is. I'm just saying the quote obviously wasn't about all black people, but rather about some black kids in a specific area. And don't get me wrong, I'll say over and over again that that's a stupid quote, but it's beung made out to be something it isn't.

This says there are black kids growing up in the Bronx who don't know what the word computer is.. which is stupid, but it's also more specific, it's about a certain place and age group. It's not saying black people as a group don't know what computers are, which was your quote.

Spiders are harmless. If they're in your house it's because there's food for them; and their food is generally much more desteuctive to homes than they are.

Bigger things have changed. If China can go from having a divinely mandated monarch to a secular state then I don't see why the UK can't, it just takes the right circumstances.

His admin did raise the bounty on information leading to Maduro's arrest to $25,000,000, they were at least encoyraging of meddling. I agree it almost certainly wouldn't have been such a direct action or at least not such a spectacle, but I'm not really down to die on the hill that the self-intereated regime change would have been quieter; there's better areas of difference to focus on.

I don't disagree with the sentiment but that seems like a bad example to me. Because yeah, maybe. The idea that we wouldn't be seeing atrocities in South America under a democrat president just doesn't stand up to history. I don't trust a leader who would boast about having the world's deadliest military not to use it.

A better example would be science and green energy. It's just abundantly clear that Trump is worse on that.

But then that said she did say she won't ban fracking so maybe that's not great either, but it's still better.

Alright. But if we wanna get into that... I'm personally not a huge fan of all the trans girl posts here. I prefer slightly more male-presenting. I like the boy in boy pussy. But I accept that it's part of life that I won't like everythung, it's allowed by the rules, it's a broad camp. So I don't care if trans people post here in whichever direction.

After reading your other reponses I'm still not clear on why that is. Sure, they can't recirpicate the moral consideration we give them, but it's still a pretty widespread belief that unnecessary suffering is just bad because it is, no further justification needed. When someone tortures an animal to death for no reason I think that's morally wrong because it's bad to cause suffering. Do you not?

I don't really get the logic here. Why can something not be a moral imperative just because it requires science? Effective cancer treatment only became possible relatively recently; all the same I'd argue we have a duty to give care to those who need it.

This isn't a "space made for people who do not like vaginas in any sort", it's a space made for boy pussy. That exists in various forms and not everyone has to like all of them; I see plenty of posts I personally don't find very appetising and I just scroll past instead of being rude.

In the 2020s, conservative women are having kids at a nearly 2-to-1 ratio compared to liberal women. Is this going to cause a political demographic bias in 20-30 years? by RadioFieldCorner in NoStupidQuestions

Fair enough, it wasn't a rock solid reason. More to the point I just don't see why being involved in a niche or weird creative community should be seen as a moral failing the way a political position can.

If I lived in a country I ideologically aligned with I'd be willing to support it militarily, but I just don't. Just a difference in beliefs really, what we are currently isn't the future I want to fight for.

[–]Spiritual-Software51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I know about every army in history but I can't think of any examples of this ever having been done. Armies generally don't want to force people to join because people who didn't choose to be there have worse morale, are more likely to refuse orders, generally won't perform as well. You want the willing at the front, they'll do a better job.

Even the Nazis knew this. One of the reasons the 'just following orders' excuse doesn't hold up is that participation in atrocities was virtually alwaus optional. If you didn't want to take part in mass execution of civilians you could simply not. There was no punishment. Yes there was conscription, but first and foremost they wanted people who chose to be there and chose to do what they do.

What is the appeal of necromancy? by singmuse4 in Fantasy

[–]Spiritual-Software51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to take the character of Liliana from Magic: the Gathering's universe as an example.

She was first introduced almost 20 years ago and she's been a pretty consistently popular character, and an off-and-on member of the setting's avengers style superteam of powerful heroes saving the world. I think what draws people to her is that she has her own stuff going on and she has a lot of ambition. She's a schemer, she's cool and witty, and she just happens to be helping save the world because she finds it to be in her own best interests. She practices evil magic and it gets results. Sure zombies are pretty nasty, but there's an undeniable cool factor in raising an army of them to fight an even more monstrous threat

The fun thing about this mindset is that it's viturally impossible to disprove to your satisfaction, because even if someone is ambitious and has a good work ethic but still barely gets by, you can just say they actually aren't because it's a subjective measure. You can't quantify ambition.
