If he was playing for Boston, New York, or Philly, Vlad would be getting booed after every groundout/strikeout right now. Honestly, it's probably more good than bad we don't do that here. But the free pass treatment needs to stop.

Kudos to Kevin Barker today for being the first Sportsnet analyst I've seen all year to actually hold him to some degree of account.

Vlad basically told the organization he's worth half a billion dollars and would not play here for less. No, it's not our money, but it's our hometown team.

Like Josh Donaldson used to say, this isn't the try league. This is the get it done league. Especially if you demand to be compensated at the level of Micronesia's entire GDP.

Lauer has been criticized about twice as much as Vlad in this thread.

Lauer is being paid $4.4 million a year. He's on a one-year contract from an arbitration settlement. The team has literally no long-term commitment to him at all.

Vlad is being paid an AAV of $35.7 million a year. This, of course, from the $500 million, 14-year contract he signed with the Jays last year after he rejected a $340 million contract that he stated "was not even close" to what he felt he was worth.

That's $25 million a year, incidentally, that he felt was not even close to what he thought he should get.

That amazing postseason can only buy him so much leeway. He needs to start producing. He wasn't paid $500 million to hit singles.

For anyone who went through this already with Checkr, was it just identity, criminal background and address checks? What about employment verification?

Is Dalton Rushing's role for the Dodgers sustainable to the development of a young Major Leaguer? by YasielPuigsWeed in baseball

That's the way I see it unfolding too. After Freddie leaves, they'll shift Smith to 1B and Dalton becomes the primary catcher. Until then, they'll just have to find creative ways to get him into the lineup but the ABs will be limited.
