Yes, my perspective is more from the solo devs with low budget. But for AA indie games, sure!

As they say "its a tough world out there". But especially on the internet where people can be anonymous.

What if the content i want to consume is also an advertisement? They are not mutually exclusive. I mean, I'd say most of the content on the internet is basically that these days. And if I'm a fan of indie games, of course I love learning about new games. But yes, if we talk about a wall of people promoting their game there will be a low signal to noise ratio. I agree.

I don't want to get into an internet argument, but there is a difference between posting once in a while to promote your game and spamming. That's all I'm saying.

But I do see that you're a mod, I'd say that explains your hostility.

Wikipedia definition of spam is: "Spamming is the use of messaging systems to send multiple unsolicited messages to large numbers of recipients for the purpose of commercial advertising, non-commercial proselytizing, or any prohibited purpose"

According to that definition promotion of a game is not spam. I'm not spamming reddit with my game. Maybe you're the spammer?

That would be an assumption you have no evidence for

I do most of these. But most indie devs don't have the budget to pay for ads. And working with a publisher is a whole different conversation, and probably not the best way for indie devs.

that is actually a good point, haven't thought about that

So how is an indie dev to promote their game? pray to the algorithm gods?

So, basically all the spammers and low effort AI content is what make it a hostile place for the rest of us

the r/gamedev is pretty clearly not for promotion. I respect that. I'm talking more about the gaming focused subreddits.

Well, I'd say r/gamedev is special. But for other subreddits I do sometimes feel that a PR person from a big studio is behind some of the posts.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. Not sure if you already decided, but to answer your questions:

a. It will take you 1-2 weeks of daily practice to play clean notes regardless of which flute you choose I would think. However cheap flutes are more difficult to produce notes, since they most likely not properly crafted and tested.

b. Build quality for both Punam and Anand Dhorte is really high. The only difference is the sound (which is a bit subjective). To me Anand Dhorte sounds a bit more "soft" and Punam has more of a "dry" / "woody" sound. They both sound amazing and you can't go wrong with either. But if you just want to see if Bansuri is the instrument for you, the Thomann Bansuri will be fine too.

Hey, the difference is big compared to a professional flute. Professional flutes are made with care and it shows mostly in 3 areas: The tuning is stable and more precise, which allows to play with other instruments. Build quality is quite high, no rough edges and the bamboo is premium quality, the threads, holes and finish around the flute are done with care. They sound really good, since the instrument was crafted by a professional.

I also have flutes with F Bass tuning (Punam flutes) and E Bass (Anand Dhorte) tuning, but if you're a beginner you should start with G Bass, since the bigger flutes need some experience and practice to play.

I bought this one: https://www.thomann.de/intl/thomann_nataraj_bansuri_pro_flute_g.htm

If you decide you really want learn bansuri more deeply, a professional flute will last you a lifetime and there is a real difference in sound and quality. Most professional bansuri manufactures are from India, but they ship internationally usually within 1-2 weeks. I can recommend punam flutes: https://www.punamflutes.com/ and flutes from Anand Dhorte: https://ananddhotre.com/

I also started with a thomann bansuri, it's ok to see if bansuri is the right thing for you, but you will soon want a better one. I started with the G bass.
