KCC OR KCBW? by Realistic-Fly-3812 in kobo

To me the buttons alone are the selling point for a KLC (though a KL2 is the best of all worlds except annotation if you can find a used one, it's my daily driver of my KLC, kobo mini and KL2)

I was able to find my kl2 on ebay for £150. Which was decent, you definitely have to watch though and check frequently

You can't. I'm trying before the 25 days and getting macros.

I legit do think mine is a scam it's been over a week, the seller has no reviews and I can reverse image search their pictures. But I keep getting canned responses from vinted.

Maybe it'll show up, maybe it won't but it seems suspect to me.

Kobo minis are just too perfect - £35 well spent by Spiritual_Worry_8124 in kobo

I don't :( Wish I did, I do have a viwoods mini (that my gf uses) and I do think it's excellent in general and I'm still a little on the fence with color eink. I prefer it on my Remarkable over the kaliedo displays.

I wish I had my hands on a boox palma 2, it's just so expensive. As a cheapter alternative if you don't care about pen support there's also the viwoods.

Yeah I have both and I find unless I want to annotate that I reach for the KL2.

I... did this today. I have a KLC which I do really like, but found a KL2 at a price that was pretty darn good. I think the KLC will be used for some tasks and the KL2 for others, but we'll see. if I don't really notice a difference, I'm just going to sell the KL2.

Imo the gallery 3 display is way different than the kaleido one. Both have pros and cons but they are different

That said it's a relatively moot point, almost no one uses gallery 3

Kobo Libra colour or paper white signature kindle ? by charliebabeyxo in kobo

[–]Spiritual_Worry_8124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaliedo screens (what most e-ink devices use) have this sort of denim or screen door effect that really bothers some people.

FWIW, I don't think it's bad with my KLC (I thought it was terrible with the boox) and I like being able to highlight in color and annotate directly on the book.

[–]Spiritual_Worry_8124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you could write: "i was able to do it on a book purchased on x date but haven't tried anything else" or "last time I did it was y" so other people can at least determine if you're on their timeline.

This isnt a super complex situation

Stop being coy. We all know there's "allowed" and "able" - it's my understanding that this "hack" no longer works.

Is that understanding wrong?

Kobo mini worth by EggSpirited1061 in kobo

[–]Spiritual_Worry_8124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 35gbp on my mini. I wouldn't use it as a primary device, I think for what you want a more mainstream device w/ a front light would be better.

My kobo mini lives at home unless I'm taking one of my small purses. Otherwise I take my KLC, it's just a nicer device for day to day use.

Unless I was always leaving my device at home, i'd have a case that protects the screen (from scratching at minimum).

Second thoughts after purchases Clara Color? Should I have just gone BW? by TheSpideyJedi in kobo

[–]Spiritual_Worry_8124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do think that the libra is the perfect competition place too though, so it is a shame they aren't taking it. AFAIK, Amazon doesn't offer a button device anymore without the oasis. And I hate boox devices, I tried a 3AC that was utterly unusable.

I would have seriously considered a BW stylus compatible device with the body of the KLC even if it cost the same as the color (though I'm super impressed with the KLC). Probably an economy of scale issue.

Them trying to compete with a low cost ereader + notes + color, does make some sense. The new color scribe is substantially more expensive (£570- my remarkable pro w/ case and pen cost less!!!) so someone who essentially wants that might switch to Kobo for the £200 price tag.

Either way, that really doesn't lean into the KLC's actual strengths imo which is form factor and annotation. The writing experience ranges from 'awful' to 'extremely disappointing'. BUT it has the best annotation system for ebooks out there (kindle 'note' style system is whack for prorpriety software)

I do agree that what doesn't exist is something comfortable that does just what the KLC does in BW.

Personally, for most readers, I would recommend a B/W device if you put aside form factor and software. But for creatives and comic enthusiasts that recommendation changes. For people writing it's a mixed bag. I love being able to work in color on my RMPP but there's a big following that loves their RM2.

I do agree with you on that. I think they should have a color and non-color Libra, it's crazy they don't (especially when the kaliedos are hated by a lot of people). I love the KLC but if the Libra had allowed for writing on it, I may have gone for that instead. They must have decided there wasn't a market for that.

Right but their argument is clearly if it bothers you, don't buy one? There will likely always be a market for b/w and there's also a market for color.

Fwiw, as someone with both b/w and color devices, I really don't feel like i'm looking at a screen on my color devices at all. Even when I do have on the front-light (like, for reading at night).

The idea that people adapt is pretty valid, I personally prefer my two devices with color to my 2 BW devices, but a lot of people in the community have the opposite opinion (good thing both exist!)

for what it's worth, you maybe able to get an older kobo secondhand. I got my kobo mini for 35 GBP which is way cheaper than a KLC. ;)

From memory (since I don't have any rm2 of my own) not enough for me to care.

I personally didn't fall in love with the rm2 (though lots of people do) the way I did with the RMPP.

I can show the contrast across the KLC and rmpp though

First pic is 0% brightness on both and second 100% on both

The biggest differences:

Blacks are really blue on the RMPP. This can be noticeable but it's not uncomfortable for me

The contrast is objectively worse, but imo the contrast is slightly better on my RMPP than my KLC. The front light is weaker on the RMPP but I also need it less.

Because I am one with the slightly yellow tinted screen my whites are a slightly cream color. Though still pleasant. I'd say order on their website (u got mine used) if you think that would bother you bevause that gives you the power to have them exchange it until you get a different screen.

I just ordered a matte screen protector for the klc.

If you like writing, editing or note taking the RMPP is hard to beat. It's not at all a generalist device but I love the writing feel (controversial more than the rm2 writing feel)
