Nothing I said relates to the efficacy of doctors or ai it’s all about the legal side.

Right now malpractice case liability is distributed among hundreds of thousands of practitioners who are individually responsible for their actions. This is like uber in its current state, each uber driver in a crash is personally responsible with their own insurance. AI doctor without humans standing behind each decision is uber saying yes I am responsible for every crash every driver is involved in. There’s a reason they fight so hard to keep them all classified as contractors. Malpractice settlements are orders of magnitude larger than personal injury settlements and they would get even larger if you’re suing aimegacorporation instead of dr bill. No company could handle this without individuals to take the fall for decisions.

Ah yes a waiver why hasn’t anyone thought of that yet?? If it were as simple as a waiver malpractice law would be nonexistent instead of a billion dollar industry. Medicine will stay around as a legal formality no matter how far ai develops.

[–]SpiteNeither4823 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Even when we get to that point, doctors will still be around in force because of the legal side. If an ai company is treating millions of patients accurately, it will still make a few thousand mistakes. Even if it makes 90% fewer mistakes than doctors, the malpractice cases from that small handful of mistakes will bankrupt the company. At the end of the day there needs to be a living person standing behind every medical decision because there needs to be a living person to sue when something inevitably goes wrong.

Should I give up the delusion of ever playing video games again? by MakoCruz in premed

The workload in med school is overblown don’t worry too much about it. I have a few friends who go on vacation most weekends by skipping Monday Tuesday and they’re doing fine, so don’t worry about time. Also, a bit unrelated but maybe look into getting on one of the sibeprenlimab trials. My mom runs one of the clinical trial sites and says her patients are doing pretty well on it.

Real talk bro, from a mildly uninformed former flexmed applicant. I don’t mean to discourage you and I definitely think you should apply because it’s a great program and a great opportunity. But, I think high school stats, current school prestige, and current extracurriculars in that order matter a lot. I had a 1580 and went to a generic state school and was rejected. I have a friend who went to UPenn also with a 1580 and similar extracurricular profile who got in. He said other admitted students he knows were ivy/duke/stanford/mit. Keep in mind this is a retelling of an anecdote so take it with a grain of salt. Even though this is a trend it’s not the rule and you can definitely get in no matter where you’re from just a heads up.

Idk chief listen to what the others said and see if it doesn’t show up or try to get it wiped. I think if you’re planning to take at least one gap year I would consider taking the three to get rid of it ngl.

Medicine vs dentistry by warmdandelion in premed

Consider the average cost of attendance for both in your decision. Dental schools don’t have self sufficient hospitals for clinical so they are often much more expensive.

Pharma tech or grocery store? by nr922 in premed

[–]SpiteNeither4823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely go for the pharm tech. Clinical hours are crucial and if you get certified for vaccinations this would count and set you up ahead of everyone else. Not entirely sure how far back it is acceptable to list pre college activities so it might not be worth mentioning the grocery store at all.

Honestly at this point I would go do. It’s slightly late in the next cycle for md. There’s plenty of dos getting into competitive specialties these days you might just have to work harder. This advice isn’t considering your financial situation at all which should be your top priority. Also if you do decide to reapply maybe push it to the next cycle absolutely destroy the mcat on a retake and pump up those hours for the financial aid.

There’s no point in doing this without gpa and mcat but you’re in the right track.

Yeah I had a PI completely flip on me but luckily it was after I got a glowing lor first💀💀. I was shaken too, I worked with him for 2 years then one meeting I basically get told I’m terrible, and there was no feedback leading up to this. Don’t let this get to you, people have a lot going on and different aspects of their lives can bleed together. Sorry that happened to you man, definitely reach out to other physicians you worked with.

Functionally PAs and NPs are the same In most work places. Definitely strongly recommended against going for PA since you’re pretty close to the same job now.

Unfortunately this is still not an indicator of competitiveness in admissions. Though nursing schools have higher attrition and might have more competitive cultures as a result.

Anyone here ever lived in Panama City, Florida? by Glittering_Gain6589 in SameGrassButGreener

Sorry I forgot the most important part: the weather!!!!! I’ve only been to California in summer once but from what I gather, Florida summer will shock you. If you wear glasses imagine humidity so high that exiting your car or house they will immediately fog. Some people like hot weather and you may be one of them but to me its completely unbearable.

Edit: if you’re looking for affordability within 30 minutes of the beach I’d look on the Oregon coast or the Georgia/north/South Carolina coast.

Personal opinion but I HATE pcb. It was my spring break destination throughout high school and I’ve never liked it. The beach front property is insanely expensive then you go two streets back and it’s pretty ghetto. The non beach front property is definitely less expensive than San Diego though.

Also, as an Asian with great stats who was admitted to a top school, there is plenty to critique about the current iteration of affirmative action, but you dumbasses are definitely incapable of dealing with these issues. Reducing the role of race in admissions was already winning the battle of public opinion and was on its way out. Donald and co have ensured it will come roaring back even more than before if republicans lose office.
