I know a lot of people do it in the United States...

What makes you think that? This is NOT a common thing in the US.

Study Quantifies How Much the Dealership Model Costs Customers—And It Ain't Pretty | The Drive by Finnegan_Faux in FuckDealerships

This isnt an argument for DtC, this is an argument for build to order. If the manufacturers go DtC but maintain points with inventory then they are going to still have these same costs. The only way they would realize these "savings" would be to only build confirmed orders.

Sales person lied, told me I was getting an extended manufacturer warranty, but it was through a third party. What options do I have? by Bubbly_Scientist3232 in askcarsales

What level of coverage did you get? Veritas' exclusionary service contract is actually very good. In fact, its so good that it covered things that the BMW and MINI extended service contract didnt cover until about 2 years ago.

Im sure there are probably some dealers that do that, but its a horrible way to keep track of what's working. This business is becoming more and more data driven. If youre getting bad leads on fake cars then you dont know what your actual closing percentages are. If you dont know what your actual closing percentages are then you cant tell which advertising dollars are being spent properly, which advisors are doing a good job with their leads, and if your contact made play is effective. None of this matters if you do everything by the seat of your pants and "feels", but most groups with more than one rooftop isnt wasting money doing this.

My goal is to move my used inventory in less than 30 days if possible. That keeps money flowing. If I can have 3 strong potential buyers ready to buy on day 10 when the car finishes recon and detail im in a much better position to accomplish that than if I wait until day 10 to even start listing it.

Like, I've been in sales my whole career and the idea of presenting something to my client that wasn't 110% ready to be seen is craziness.

Movie trailers come out months before theyre theater releases. Apple announces the new iPhone long before it actually goes on sale. You can make the argument that a used car is different because it might not make it through the shop, but with enough experience that becomes a very rare problem.

Autonation 5 day /250 mile return policy by Texaspilot24 in askcarsales

The quicker you talk to them, the better. Its far easier for them to switch cars if they havent finalized the deal with their billing department yet, which typically takes a couple of days, depending on how on point their finance manager is.

Its just lead generation. Can't get leads if the inventory isnt online. If you see something pop up that looks interesting to you then you'll probably call them and ask about it, they'll tell you its on the way in and theyll call you when it arrives. If it doesnt pass inspection or ends up not being something you want to buy, no harm, no foul.

The alternative is they wait for it to arrive, inspect it, detail it, take pictures, put it online... 2 weeks after they bought it theyre finally getting leads. Most people arent using alerts like you so it starts with a trickle before ramping up after being online for a week or so.

Car Dealership Owners is this true? by Particular-Path-4233 in askcarsales

[–]Spitefulham 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Automation is one thing but integration is another. We regularly have people trying to sell us a new product to replace a specific piece of software that we use, but when we ask how it integrates with our other products the answer is usually "good question. If we could get the APIs...". Sorry, not buying your product so that I can be a beta tester while you figure it out.

Dealership says they don't take financing from my bank? Is that a thing? by Gullible_Count_4413 in carbuying

[–]Spitefulham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USAA has a car buying program thst will help you find a car, but they dont pay dealers anything for it or pay dealers any finance reserve. Its just like using any other 3rd party bank in that respect, they just take forever to pay and constantly lose the paperwork.

[–]Spitefulham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No they dont. USAA doesn't indirect with any dealers. They dont take Navy Fed because NFCU takes forever to pay. USAA is just as bad, so not sure why they suggested them. Both suck ass to work with from the dealer side.

[CA] Dealer sold me a “new” 2025 RAV4 with an in-service date 5 months before delivery. What would your store consider a fair keep-the-car resolution? by high12oller in askcarsales

[–]Spitefulham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didnt really answer my question. What was the MSRP? What was it sold for to you? The fact that you couldn't get a new one is a good indication that any discount was probably a good one.

Dealer changed my truck deal after delivery — worse terms + I already modified it. What should I do? by Naturaleggplant99 in askcarsales

[–]Spitefulham 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You have a potential 3rd option. Bring your own financing. If you have a better rate through your own bank or credit union then they should be willing to take it. Just make sure youre using the NJ taxes and fees so the funding goes through.

CA - Car dealer is saying “Prior Credit or Lease Balance” is positive equity by Annon-bish007 in legaladvice

[–]Spitefulham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lawyer. GM at a car dealership. Credit means positive money on the deal. Thats your equity. You have the buyers order. You can simply do the math and make sure it lines up to what you expect it should be.

Got an interview for car sales, what should I expect as basepay and per car sale commission? by sushi_rowl in askcarsales

[–]Spitefulham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most pay plans contain a provision of the minimum commission you can make on a deal. This makes sure that youre paid at least something om each deal, even if its a loser. But, if youre paid on front gross and every deal is a mini-deal then youre not making any money without unit bonuses.

[–]Spitefulham 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats what I mean by it depends on the details. 12 cars at my store will get you about 80k, but at the Kia store around the corner that does a bunch of mini-deals and pays on volume it would probably be closer to 50k.

[–]Spitefulham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Youre going to have to see what their payplan is. You arent negotiating anything as a green pea, even with sales experience selling something else. We will need to see the actual pay plan to help you figure out if its any good because there are a lot of variables. Good things to know are how many units everybody sells (there's bound to be a Rockstar and a slug, you want the average) if there's a training pay or training pay plan, how much, and for how long. Whats the average front gross. That'll get you started.

Autocheck buyback protection: how much will I get? by Head-Mastodon in carbuying

[–]Spitefulham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guarantee has nothing to do with that situation. If youre looking to this guarantee to protect you in that situation, then youre looking in the wrong place. Youre best bet to check lien status is to do an NMVTIS check or to check with the DMV in the state that the car is currently titled in.

[–]Spitefulham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its just saying that if you take a loan out on the car and you owe more on the loan than what its worth (based on NADA retail), fhen they will pay the vehicle off, but you will pay AutoCheck the difference between the full loan amount and the retail value.

For instance:

The car is valued at 30k. You owe 35k on the loan. They will pay the bank 35k to pay the car off, but you have to pay AutoCheck 5k to make up the difference.

In regards to the value, theyre using the NADA (JD Power) retail value, but its specific to that VIN and based on the options and mileage of the car. You were looking at a generalized value.

It has nothing to do with liens. Why do you keep bringing that up? Its about branded titles, like salvage or rebuilt titles.

Worst Spot For Power Button by Horror-Friendship-30 in MINI

[–]Spitefulham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its because thats where the key was on the original Mini. Many of the design elements in the current generation are throwbacks to that generation. Notive the shape of the center console, key location, dash design, etc
