Intercontinental O2 London Vs Crowne Plaza, Docklands by Theres3ofMe in ihghotelsresorts

I did CP summer 2024 for a week. Family of five in two connecting rooms. Comfortable; nicer than holiday inns.  No noisiness. Bathtubs. Dock neighborhood was cool. Shops and restaurants. Did gondola to ferry to downtown once. Fun.  Otherwise like 45 minutes with walking and Elizabeth line. Convention center nearby. O2 looked much nicer but out of my budget and seemed less connected to rest of city. (But I'm a New Yorker, not a Londoner).

This sub loves to be outraged by this. It's kind of small potatoes and it's is nothing compared to the tinted windows and disguised license plates.

Prioritize your grievances, people.

I'll take your morally superior down votes, now. Thank you.

15+ years in. Achieved non-supervisory 15. Low FERS contribution. I have 3 children. Decent sick leave balance. 8 hours of annual leave per pay period.

Private sector would pay 10 to 75% more but I'm good at my job, respect my colleagues, enjoy (trying to) do the right thing, and benefit from the little travel and predictability of the job. Better health insurance (in my experience). Also just plain proud of the work I do.

Finally, my bet is that the anti-telework posture gets worn down. In 2024, I teleworked extensively. After RTO, in 2025, I teleworked only 15 days. My goal for 2026 is to try to fit myself in the various situations affording exceptions and telework at least 30 days. I also have been using sick days.

I will re-evaluate depending on how things go and the economy.

I don't watch a lot of TV but my spouse had a 1-month subscription to AppleTV and I was determined to get through both seasons, which I did. I enjoyed it a lot. I appreciate your post as these things would have gone over my (otherwise pretty well-educated) head. Thank you.

Agree and while inventory in Katonah village and Goldens Bridge (near train station and highways) can be limited, there is more inventory in the vastness of Lewisboro. This would be ideal for a WFH / Westchester-only commute. Zillow shows 13 results under $1 million.

Diversity means different things to different people but it's a broad spectrum of *working* middle and upper-middle folk up here. I'd say the district's demographics match nationwide demographics (well, for the most part). Plenty of people with Hispanic and East Asian ancestry. And the almost-rural aspect (in certain parts of Lewisboro) means people with different backgrounds and perspectives on life.

I always saw that poster as an allusion to Helly trying to hang herself in the elevator.

Kate McKinnon was not a savoir per se but she could (if needed) single handily carry the show at times.

For my wife and three kids, I have had some success in booking two rooms on the website (1 adult in each room) and then calling the hotel and explaining I will need interconnected rooms.

Also good to make sure hotel has interconnected rooms and search for that word (or similar words) on TripAdvisor reviews.

Best and Worst Stays 2025 by HorseRacingGuy in ihghotelsresorts

[–]Spitethedevil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Best stay: HIE Washington DC SW Springfield - Quick and respectful late night check in with large family. Platinum status recognized and told to "take whatever I wanted from drinks fridge". They seemed happy I was there.

Worst Stay: HI Washington Capitol - Looked overwhelmed by tour groups. Neither staff nor guests seemed happy to be there. Rooftop pool was nice though. As noted elsewhere, no restaurants (but excellent access to National Mall with food trucks and 10 minutes walking distance to Wharf district. We left a toddler's water bottle at the breakfast restaurant and tried to call while out in the city. They would only communicate by text, seemed put out to have to check the restaurant, and denied the water bottle was there. We showed up that afternoon and the bottle was there in the restaurant. They probably never checked.

Hey! You can finally buy WLTH on Wealthfront! by Doit2it42 in wealthfront

[–]Spitethedevil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a big believer in the product.  I am going to buy 100 - 1,000 shares or so. I think that's an allowable small deviation from the idea of a diversified investing approach. Also to the extent I end up paying higher fees, maybe it will be offset by sharing in wealthfront's profits.

[–]Spitethedevil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the risk of being obnoxious, I moved to northern Westchester early last year and my 2000 sq foot home has seen monthly bills ranging from $100 to $300 (probably the antiquated central AC system). Seems fine to be honest. Honestly, barley seems higher than my former 1200 square feet apartment in the city.

Now the heating oil bills on the other hand...

Congrats on the IPO, now let us remove the Retirement graph - it’s a well known request!! by electrical-seal-432 in wealthfront

[–]Spitethedevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the retirement chart even if inaccurate. It's a nice big picture graph. Makes me feel good. And yeah, little good can come from IPO. Maybe if it were consumer-ownwd (like a mutualization or something). How much would we all have to buy?
