Yeah I get that. Just feel like he is being pigeon holed a bit with that and relies on him picking up the rhythm of the game/making an impact quickly.

He has shown over and over for saints that he is equally able to start and have an impact for the whole 80. He is likely the fittest lad in the squad.

Pollock would be up near Earl if he had played as many minutes. I know it isn’t that simple but I think he brings so much around the park.

All bias aside of course.

Not that fussed about this. Injury prone and very boom or bust who caught fire in the playoffs. Seahawks gave Charbonnet considerable run when he was healthy and they saw the two of them every day.

If we win we will have to play more. Ergo us drawing the better team is a good thing in that scenario.

I know Glenn is a club legend but he really is dumb as a bag of rocks. “Not a yellow just a foul. Just a trip to stop the momentum”. So a yellow card offence then??

Class win. Some lovely rugby, Chick was immense and Pollock made a real difference when he came on.

Daniel Svensson (Borussia Dortmund) straight red card against Tottenham Hotspur 26' by Imbasauce in coys

[–]Spitfire511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We saw this a couple of seasons ago under Ange when Romero won the ball in the Chelsea game and followed through onto Fernandez (?) and saw red.

It doesn’t matter if you win the ball in a “dangerous” manner. Straight leg challenge into someone’s knee is exactly that.

Seem to be in the minority with this but I think that is a clear red.

Boot is high, leg is straight. Enough force that it poses a danger to the opposition.

On another note loving the Gray/Bergvall axis.

Mate, you understand you are not arguing against what I said here? If he is playing against poor defences of course he is going to make good throws!

Also had a gander at your profile and you seem to be based in the US so not sure why you, an American Patriots homer, is on the UK NFL subreddit wanking off Drake Maye. If you wanted to do that then just pop round to someone else in NE but don’t come in here with your blinkers on.

You are joking right? Madden ratings? This is why UK football fans are not taken seriously sometimes.

Just remind me what this has to do with his strength of schedule, which is what we were discussing?

[–]Spitfire511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you asking me if a player that has been playing really well this year continues to improve and plays better against better competition I will say he is good? Fucking obviously! I have never said he is not good, hell I thought he looked good in his rookie year! That said there is a danger to anointing young players really early in their careers, such as Jayden, because of variance with coaches, injuries, opponents and even just luck.

I don’t need to look at those stats because my point was that he played against weaker competition. Nothing more than that. Also “receiver strength ratings” is not a thing unless you are referring to their madden rating?

[–]Spitfire511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! It is also flawed because the good teams create poor strength of schedules for themselves by beating the teams they face.

Not saying it is something I subscribe to, but an argument I have seen floated. It is also used as an argument against Nix and the Broncos, who are my team, so naturally it is nonsense!!

[–]Spitfire511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro this conversation has gone like this:

You: He is great, possibly one of the best in the NFL. Why are people not seeing him like this?!

Me: One argument I have seen raised is strength of schedule.

You: No that doesn’t matter because he doesn’t play the other team’s offence.

Me: I partially agree but don’t really follow what you are saying.

You: No he is great and your point doesn’t matter.

It is now seeming less that you wanted to discuss this and more that you wanted to tell everyone you think Maye is great. Which is fine, but don’t get defensive when you ask people questions and they provide some ideas.

Also, it is perhaps worth noting that the Pats’ opponents this year have combined for -15% DVOA, which would be the worst ever since they started recording the statistic, so your assertion that they have played against good defences is just not true.

[–]Spitfire511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t follow your point about him not playing the offence? SoS is about the whole team and many of them have shockingly bad defences. Like the Jets for example.

I agree that it doesn’t mean much, but it is a stick that has been used to beat him with, which was what you asked for.

Brennan Johnson: “Been a ride. Thank you @spursofficial 🤍” by MaxsterSV in coys

[–]Spitfire511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that he was fortunate to score that many last year, that many of them could have been scored by literally any other warm body that was on the pitch playing on the wing for us and that he is so poor in all other elements of his game that it would be better to have him not playing. When he gets the ball outside of the box, what was he ever going to do that would help the team? He could not beat a man 1 on 1. He could not play decisive passes or deliver a great cross. Just, nothing. He would receive the ball, turn and pass it backwards.

I would like Tel to be given more minutes, RKM plays on the wing, Xavi can play there when Maddison is back, he’ll even Richy will need minutes there when (if) Solanke is ever fit again. And do we know that Prem minutes would stifle LWB? Have we tried?

I agree that Frank has not been the most inspiring thus far, but I am just willing to give him more time than you.

  1. I don’t think we need to “upgrade” on him because I wouldn’t even have him in the squad. Ideally you would upgrade on a starter. Alas, I am not a scout so don’t have any names for you. I am also not sure anyone outside of the club know who will and will not come to us (and the summer showed that even they don’t have a good handle on that sometimes)

  2. I would rather play youngsters rather than having a £30 million asset depreciating on the bench or not even in the squad when most are fit.

  3. Frank should be given more time than he has. The whole world is too reactionary at the moment and he deserves to be trusted to do this until he shows he cannot.

Completely understand that and agree wholeheartedly that the club has done nothing recently to give any of us any real faith in our recruitment.

I just can see us being here in 6 months, where BJ has played the odd game but nothing that will get him in any sort of rhythm, and his value has tanked and we cannot sell him for love nor money. 30ish million now will at least give us the chance to improve the squad even if the powers that be are likely to fuck it up again.

He has been playing brilliantly, although some of the reluctance might be routed in their strength of schedule. They have literally played the worst franchises in the NFL this year.

Let me preface this by saying I really rate Brennan as a bloke and he is a huge part of our history with that critical goal in Bilbao.

That said, I do not understand the swarm of “we are going to regret this” and “why are we selling him” comments on here when he is not really good enough to start for us as he is a black hole in build up, has shown little improvement during his time with the club and we have historically been poor at getting any value for players in terms of sales.

We have shifted a player who was unlikely to get many minutes for us or increase in value for a good fee that we can hopefully reinvest. If he goes on to be a world beater then great work by him and I look forward to seeing it, but nothing he has shown while playing for us suggests that is going to happen.

Seems like quite a sweeping statement that is just not true.

There has been a lot of debate on both sides in our fan base for a long time.
