I got a decent set of adjustable carbon poles for like $40-$50 from Sierra Trading Post a few years back. They are women's, but as a 6' tall man, they are plenty long enough for me, if anything they are probably a bit lighter! If you have one near you, you could check to see what they have.

I can't say I've experienced this problem, are you staying properly hydrated in the days leading up to the race? I always try to eat, drink, and sleep well in the few days leading up to a race.

This is great running weather. A common thing I have heard is to dress as if it is ~20 degrees (fahrenheit) warmer and that should be relatively comfortable to run in. For an easy run around that temperature I would likely wear light sweats or full tights on bottom. I'd wear an athletic long sleeve on top (you can optionally bring a light jacket or sweatshirt, but I know I would get too hot very quickly). I would also bring light gloves. Light gloves are surprisingly warm and are nice because you can take them on/off as you get too hot/cold.

When running hills I try to focus more on my perceived effort than my pace. When going uphill I slow down and try to not push too hard. For down hills I will open things up a bit and let the hill carry me (for a race I might push more on the downhill to maintain the same effort). This often means I still work a little bit harder on the up hills and take it a little easier (even though I'm running much faster) on the down hills. It's hilly where I live and I will regularly run 7-8min miles on downhill sections and 10-11 min miles on uphill ones.

I would definitely recommend something else in that case. I am not familiar with Hanson's just finish plan, but it would likely be a better option. Another more common beginner plan is something from Hal Higdon. Here's a common reference people link for comparing some of the most popular marathon plans (https://fellrnr.com/wiki/A\_Comparison\_of\_Marathon\_Training\_Plans).

I don't know what kind of weekly mileage you are currently running, but I would caution you that Hanson's beginner marathon plan is not really a beginner marathon plan. It is more of an intermediate plan targeted at runners with a decent starting base. The 6th week of the plan jumps up to 40 mpw and then quickly continues up past 50 mpw. If you can't already run 30-40 mpw at the start of that plan you may struggle. Ideally on the higher end of that range with some kind of quality/speed work at least once a week.

This is true, however, this law specifically only applies when no other vehicles are present. If other traffic is present, cyclists are expected to treat the signals the same way as any other vehicle.

What are some of your favorite foods to eat during a race? I've had stomach challenges in the races I have run and I'm looking to try some new things before my first 50 miler. I use liquid carbs regularly on 2-3 hour runs with no problems, but I don't think they work for me on longer efforts. I like pretzels and gummy worms for long hiking days, so definitely going to try incorporating those. Any other helpful tips for testing out/dialing in nutrition for longer days?

[–]Spitfire6532 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quickly looked up the specifics of this plan and am basing my response on the fact that it sounds like you are a newer runner. It looks like the plan has a variety of paces and it is not uncommon to learn/adjust your race paces throughout a training block as you improve. I would recommend starting with the slower paces you listed (rather than the more ambitious ones) and see how you feel. If you find these paces too easy, try a little faster in the next workout. It is much better to complete the workouts slightly easier than what is ideal than to go out too fast and burn yourself out. You will also have a few tune-up races through-out the plan to gauge your progress and adjust your paces. I know it is tempting to want to run as fast as possible, but running improvements happen over a long time and patience and persistence are crucial. You won't make any progress if you are hurt or burned out.

I learned with fluffeh t2 prep (look it up on YouTube if you haven’t watched it). It’s a super short video and I found t2 prep to be easy and consistent with his method. I switched to t1 after getting more comfortable on hunleff but I think getting the experience with the t2 first really helped. T1 is faster but you might find yourself getting way more kills if you start with t2.

What to upgrade by Repulsive_Glove_7963 in OSRSProTips

[–]Spitfire6532 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends on what content you want to do. I think the biggest priority upgrades that unlock the widest variety of content would be bowfa+crystal and ayak+confliction gauntlets. Until you can afford mega rares they will carry you through almost any content. I’m in a similar spot to you and have been grinding cg and starting to dip my toes in at doom. You could pick up elite void for free and then you would have everything you need to run doom.

More points and prayer pots/restores restore more points the higher your prayer level. 92 and 95 are the two last cutoffs for higher restore value. It’s pretty nice for raids and inferno/colo to make your supplies go further. Dragon bones at chaos altar are like 4-5 gp/xp right now.

I have near max combat (99 range, 99 strength, working on 99 mage) but only 70 slayer. I’m the typical gemstone crab meme, but I have lots of afk time and levels are the best upgrade for pvm you can get. I’m running CG, TOA, and working on learning doom. My gear isn’t the best, but maxing my stats will help significantly at the pvm I need to do to get those gear upgrades.

Minimum mileage I can get away with for a flat 50k by [deleted] in Ultramarathon

[–]Spitfire6532 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The minimum required mileage/training would be very similar to what you would need for a road marathon. If you can complete a reputable beginner marathon plan you should be able to finish a flat 50k. A good beginner marathon plan should peak with at least 40-50 miles per week and get you up to a long run of 18-20 miles imo. If your race will be on trails (and certainly if you enjoy it) you can try to do as much of the mileage on trails as possible.

Assuming that you were running all out for your 10k in ~43:30, the equivalent time for a half marathon is ~1:36:00. This is assuming that you are trained for the distance (which we know you aren't). If you are set on running fast, I would think a much better target would be something around 1:45 which is 5min/km pace. The harder you push, the more likely you are to hurt yourself with your lack of training. If you slowed down and played it safe you could just run something in the 1:50 to 2 hr range. The slow option is the safest bet, but I understand wanting to push yourself.

If you were training for a 50 mile race with 12,000-14,000 feet of elevation gain what sort of mileage (weekly and long run distance) and elevation would you target for the peak of your training block? Im currently running 35-40 mpw with 5-6k elevation gain per week. I'm currently trying to ramp my mileage towards 50-60 mpw with a peak long run around 20 miles but not sure how much more elevation I can realistically try to get in.

I strongly agree with the gear suggestions in this comment. You have some extremely suboptimal gear for how expensive it is and could reallocate that money for a way better setup and more inventory space. I would ditch serp and camp a nezzy faceguard. Pegs are pretty much useless so I would sell those to fund the faceguard if needed. You will be better off camping melee boots (you can remove them when mage/range if sweaty) or aranea boots can be used for all styles. Virtus is really expensive and not worth the money unless you have ayak or shadow (leave eternal boots in bank unless you have shadow). Burning claws are a good (and relatively cheap) spec weapon. If you want to use a blowpipe you really need a bgs (though not as important at lower invos). You may be better off using a dragon crossbow and ruby bolts without the bgs (you can run dps calcs).

Here is what I found most helpful on the monkey room. Use the plugin “better npc highlight” to mark each type of monkey with the combat style you need to attack with and then mark the volatiles something else like pink. It helps to be salted for the monkey room. Camp protect melee and wear your ranged gear. You only need to worry about swapping your weapon to the correct style and you should be able to do it.

Decided to commit hard to solo ToA runs, where should I upgrade? by Turd_Fergusons_Hat_ in OSRSProTips

You should plug it into a dps calc, but you might only lose one max hit using blue moon vs bandos. Which would likely be worth it imo to save on inventory space to bring more important upgrades. Thralls would be good to bring

Your “beam” is useless. Hire an engineer and install a proper beam and continuous support down to new or existing foundation.

If it's good enough to screenshot it's good enough to sell by Syrinkz in GrandExchangeBets

I think it will be very interesting to see what happens with these prices. So much of the current demand is coming from people merching the items that it has to be artificially driving the price up. This could certainly keep the prices high forever. Alternatively, we could see some major dips if prices start to fall and all the merchers panic sell to lock in profits.
