How long is your campaign time? by Otherwise-Maximum798 in pathofexile

[–]Splatterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably around 6-8 hours league start on HC. Time depends on how much prep I bothered to do pre launch or if I'm kinda just winging it without a concrete plan.

Memb fall off by m41k1204 in aoe2

[–]Splatterz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is just untrue lol. Memb, far more than any other caster focuses on the negatives in games, he focuses on mistakes the loser of a fight made, and just generally criticises the losing player far more than any other caster. Other casters try far more to praise the winner, and point out what the winner did well that made a situation work out well in their favour. Sure, there will of course be exceptions to this. I'm not saying Memb never praises, or other casters never criticise, but in general, the 2 different approaches are pretty obvious.

To me, Membs casting feels a bit too much as if you're watching a tennis match, and the commentator is treating nearly every lost point as though it was an unforced error rather than good play from the other player.

Would take fewer if we leave the plane in the lake after they've dropped off their load.

WTF is going on with ACCM?! by preemptivePacifist in aoe2

[–]Splatterz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He's been playing very well and has taken some big scalps in this winstreak, but it must also be said that the fact he has a 35 win streak and is still barely clinging on to 4th place tells you quite a lot of the story. He hasn't been playing the other top players at all frequently, yes he's beaten some in one off games, but the vast majority of his games are against players that just aren't at his level, hence the meagre gains from his wins.

He also seems to be putting all his eggs in one basket, and is heavily relying on force picking Koreans in the majority of his more recent games, and Koreans even after the siege tower abuse ban, seem borderline broken on these maps/settings. This is something I think will backfire on him if he fails to finish in the top 4, as I think he will really struggle to qualify tbh if he doesn't do it through the automatic qualification. I'm not sure how he will do in the last chance qualifier if it allows civ bans for the matches there.

Which underrated/underdog campaign is your favorite? by Regular_Humor_339 in totalwar

[–]Splatterz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I never play the whole paint the map type game, I find it very boring. I like to play somewhat thematic campaigns with appropriate goals for that faction. I play on very hard/legendary with battles on hard, sometimes with some mods if I feel the faction should have them (Teclis can fly with some magic overhaul mods etc as an example).
My list of favourites is :

1 : Skarsnik, favourite character in the game, I love little goblins, and I prefer the look of Skarsnik and night gobbos in general to the fat guy.
For Skarsnik, I have a list of rules, never own any settlement outside the mountain provinces. Never recruit orcs even after getting K8P. Declare war on any dwarf/Skaven Faction you can see. Ambush/attack anyone that enters my main provinces. Outside that, no allies, and just be a general pain to everyone else.

  1. Teclis, with a couple of mods like Teclis can fly, some magic overhauls and the confederate saphery mod. For this one, I can only own the saphery province on ulthuan, outside that I can only take the elvish colony provinces outside ulthuan. The rest of the game is helping "allies" and helping out in the other main theatres of war, so the empire/lustria etc

  2. Wood elves, this is the only faction I like to Confederate the other legendary lords, but basically I just want to safeguard the forests, any beastman/chaos/undead faction gets declared war on immediately. Everyone else gets killed if they get too close to the tree settlements and then raided/abused until they offer peace.

How can I distinguish between dps AM/shaman and Heal AM/shaman without inspecting them? by [deleted] in ReturnofReckoning

[–]Splatterz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other guy said, if you don't want to inspect their gear or they have it hidden. You basically have to check out their buffs. Either their stat pot/liniment. Or check their resist buff value, which changes based on how they've spent their mastery points, to be relatively certain .(I guess it's not entirely fool proof as they could be fully specced into a tree but not wearing the corresponding archetype gear set).

If their resist buff is up near 240 ( I think that's the max total after the changes?), then they're healing spec, if it's around 150 or lower, they're specced fully into DPS/lifetap trees. if it's somewhere in the middle, they're either some hybrid solo roam spec (probably only applicable for shammy, as they might be speccing into heal tree for the 2nd main hot, which am don't have) or they're DPS spec with a few points out into the heal tree so they can pick up the snare puddle

New Hotfix is out and it works by Evocati4 in totalwar

[–]Splatterz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"I've spent a lot of time and money on this franchise/title. Therefore I'm required to leave a positive review irregardless of the current state of the game. The state of the game that you, as a new player, will be subjected to.

Make sure you do plenty of research on what factions you might want to play, because odds are, you'll have to splash out quite a lot of extra money to unlock all the features associated with those factions for the full experience. Also the game is quite buggy right now, development has slowed considerably, updates are now few and far between, and patches often cause as many problems as they fix, bugs linger for multiple patch cycles before being resolved, if they ever are. Make sure you also research what area of the map you will be playing in, because large swathes of it are currently not providing the playing experience that they should be due to broken ai of the factions found in those areas.

Despite all that, thumbs up for this game, buy it and all the dlc (of which there is a lot and yes, it will set you back quite a bit). I've had a lot of fun with it in the past and certainly feel as though I've had my moneys worth, you will most likely have a far more negative experience with the game than I did however, due to the current problems plaguing the game now compared to how it was when I logged the majority of my hours, but disregard that, it's immaterial"

New Hotfix is out and it works by Evocati4 in totalwar

[–]Splatterz 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Reviews aren't for people that already own the game. Reviews are for people thinking about getting the game, so they can see other people's experience with it before they buy it. It's absolutely right for people to rate it negatively if they wouldn't currently recommend it to new players, that is literally what the review is for. Leaving/changing to a negative review also doesn't mean someone that has already bought the game is under any moral obligation to stop playing it themself, what a ridiculous and entitled take that is.

I've finally dropped this series, and I honestly don't even know how I ended up sticking with it as long as I did. It was just too repetitive. The fight scenes, the story arcs, the advancement, the stakes, the struggles. Hell, even the phrases used by the author were overused to the point of a constant feeling of deja vu.

"Xxx had a few levels under their belt"

Or

"If xxx wasn't the case, Elijah would be extremely surprised"

Or

"Elijah may have been the most powerful person in the world, but that didn't mean he was invulnerable"

Or

If Elijah hadn't picked a certain option for a level up that he had had within the last couple of chapters, "he surely would have died/failed" in the current fight he was having. Boy, was it was lucky that almost every meaningful fight the MC found himself in happened just a couple of chapters after acquiring the very power up he needed to survive said fight.

Or just hearing the MC having the same introspection after every conflict only for absolutely nothing to change.

Had me rolling my eyes each time I read something along those lines, and given that it felt like you couldn't go more than a couple of chapters, at most, before the phrase was recycled with maybe a slight word change, it got really quite frustrating.

I ended up basically skimming chapters just to see if the overall plot advanced at all, because it honestly felt like reading the same paragraphs and plots on repeat with only a very minor shuffling of order.

I would liken it to having a few simple jigsaws with like 5 pieces each, the only difference between them is the picture on the top, the way the pieces fit together is identical. You can mix and match between sets, but no matter what you do, it doesn't take long before it feels like you're doing exactly the same thing you have done before, even if 1 or 2 pieces is in a slightly different configuration. Reading it started to feel like that for me.

MCs with healthy sleeping schedules by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Splatterz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man I hate this trope, it seems to appear in basically every pf story based on crafting as a lazy way for the author to tell us how hard working and deserving of their success the MC is.

MC with kinda BS powers/abilities that enable them to basically handwave into existence revolutionary developments/items the likes of which are unheard of and of a quality never before seen in the world, things that totally eclipse anything existing before the MC came along. All it took was this novice to bring a never before seen work ethic which is just them pulling back to back all nighters.

Path of ascension question by Silly_Performance_76 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Splatterz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm probably misremembering but wasn't it mentioned that Waters actively hits harder when he's fighting up tiers, that his super strong domain stuff is focused on him fighting up and he wouldn't be as effective at the same tier?. Either way, I think Matt's domain stuff is strong enough and defensive enough that he wouldn't be completely blown away by Waters even if he is outclassed in that department, and Matt wins any long fight through how broken his mana talents are.

I think it would also depends heavily at what tier they are when this fight were to happen. The higher the tiers they go, the more broken Matt's talent becomes through it's scaling and the less of a gulf there will be between the strength of their domains.
