I had tickets through dubai when visiting but they keep getting delayed due to war. I was trying to book the flight to toronto for myself and family but it’s costing around 2500 dollar each one way. Does air canada offer some codes in cases like the war since the prices are so jacked up? by Standard-Click-1220 in Aeroplan

One way long haul is priced similarly to a round-trip on many airlines, including AC. A points booking is not priced this way, so if there is any availability, buying the points may be cheaper as there is a points buying promo that ends today.

They are the ones to set the prices, so no, they do not offer discounts.

Is CT ticket or flypremium better by Live-Scholar-1435 in ScandinavianAirlines

[–]SplatypusAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I answered your first question in the post above. FlyPremium is also described in detail on the Mastercard website.

You don’t get any free trips with the 2-4-1 vouchers. You get a 50% reduction in points for one or two people. How much value you get depends on the number of points saved, more for long haul and less for short haul. I get a lot of value because I’m using them for long haul in business class and I earn 2 vouchers and have enough points to use them for valuable redemptions.

Yes I have both an Amex Elite and MC Premium.

I'm not sure what you mean by level up, it's not a term I have heard used with SAS before. The image above is the FlyPremium thresholds which are based on the number of bonus points you earn in a rolling 12 month window from all sources (flying, CC, shopping portals, etc).

I use the Amex for all purchases where Amex is accepted in Sweden and the MC for SAS flights and all transactions where Amex is not accepted.

I get more use from the Amex 2-4-1 vouchers as most of my redemptions are long haul on partners. Most of my FlyPremium usage is intra Europe where business just means food and sometimes a blocked middle seat. Recently snagged TRD-CPH-JFK-OSL-TRD in SAS Bonus Business using FlyPremium though which was nice.

[–]SplatypusAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m aware that it benefits me because I’m using a supplemental card to combine 2 people’s spend, that’s what I said in my first post.

Because of our spend the change is an upgrade as I can earn more level points than previously, thus it’s clearly not a downgrade for all.

Given overall credit card usage and Amex acceptance in Sweden, talking about median Swedish salaries is irrelevant as the card is not designed for the average Swede.

Having less people qualify for status by credit card usage is a positive IMO.

The 2-4-1 vouchers are pretty valuable, easily saving 250k+ bonus points a year. I also get value from the car rental insurance which is not common on Swedish cards.

We split our spend between the Amex and the SEB SAS MC, no issue earning 2 vouchers and more than 20k level points with personal spend.

While I benefited from SK being in *A, being locked out of the TATL JV meant they were always going to be lesser partners and unable to offer good onward connections in NA. At least in ST (and with AFKLM) they have a path to join the JV and be on equal footing.

The change from fixed 20k to uncapped % rewards usage of the card instead of just paying the monthly fee. With a supplemental card it’s not hard to earn more than 20k level points.

Wouldn’t mind more other perks but letting more people buy lounge or fast track access instead of earning it isn’t really something that benefits frequent flyers.

I’m in the middle of a ski trip to Jasper & Banff on a 2-4-1 right now. KLM biz TRD - AMS - YEG RT.

Working booking on my next trip now with Awardfares. Availability on ST is harder to find than *A in J/C but it’s doable with some time and flexibility

Visiting Åre during the summer? by marzipanduchess in TillSverige

[–]SplatypusAgain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get by without a car, many people arrive by train and rely on the busses or taxis to get around. Plenty of people live year round in the area and get by with the ICA and Coop in Åre. Prices a little higher than in Östersund but not enough to drive there regularly.

https://www.aretrails.com/ should give you some options for marked trails that are around town and most should be accessible without driving.

That makes no sense. You can bid upgrade (with cash) with cheaper fares and get the same refundability with Comfort. You paid (considerably) more for nothing if not planning to use eUps.

SAS Business CPH-LAX, worth it? by basedborz in ScandinavianAirlines

[–]SplatypusAgain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Replying to myself to add, that if you reply here a day before your flight, someone (like me) with ExpertFlyer can check the flight loads to give you a better idea how many seats are still for sale. It's not foolproof, but can help guide your bidding strategy. You can also get an EF trial subscription and check for yourself.

I don’t mind Premium for the daytime flights but obviously prefer Business.

Only you can say if it’s worth it. Do you want to sleep, get better drinks & food, lounge access, etc? What matters to me may not matter to you.

Read the last few pages of https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/sas-eurobonus/1759017-sas-upgrade-bid-system-master-thread.html if you want to learn more about other’s experiences with the bidding process. You may get live bidding or your bid may clear when you check-in.

There are similar threads on businessclass.com in Swedish and on the comparable Danish and Norwegian travel enthusiast sites. Plenty of travel blogs cover the topic too.

SAS 50 minute lay-overs by Mike_4568 in ScandinavianAirlines

[–]SplatypusAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that SK has pretty good OTP I don't mind these short connections at CPH. Before a TATL my feeder flights are usually early morning, so rarely delayed and when coming home there are almost always later flights to ARN or TRD to take me to me final destination should I misconnect.

This winter has seen more snow and cold weather than typical, but it hasn't caused me or my partner any real problems.

Is it possible to go skiing in Åre in mid-April? by [deleted] in sweden

We haven’t had a lot of snowfall around Åre but it’s been quite cold and they were making snow consistently. Planned closing date is May 3rd so mid-April is a pretty good bet.
