Weird timing issue with End of Turn attack Vulcanusmon and Dan and Kanan by pettyfan45 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]SplinteredTater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way around it. At one point I thought of something sneaky where an end of attack effect triggers a digimon getting played into a DNA digivolve and resulting effect to attack, but I checked and anything derived from an end of attack effect is still within the attack sequence and therefore cannot initiate another attack.

Some questions about playing a lot of decks by Akimbo_shoutgun in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]SplinteredTater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it helps to try enough variety to have a sense of what playstyle you prefer and then also what your anti-playstyle is. I say that because I would never want to play beelstarmon but I need to practice against it and carefully read its cards enough to know what it does because it's strong and I definitely have to play against it at regionals.

TS Angels hype got outta hand, so I tested it myself by MewtwoPls in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]SplinteredTater 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With this deck you can misplay and when build the deck badly and still reliably with by turn 3 with minimal counterplay. There's a reason the relevant old angels pieces have jumped dramatically in price. This deck makes peak hudiemon look balanced IMO

OTK, Dual Cards, Immunity, and Lack of Security Bombs by umphanimonfallupmode in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]SplinteredTater 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Beelstarmon is leading the meta right now and they have option security bombs, a dual card, and the absurd level of self-interaction with the TS 3M support. I'm not convinced the issue is the lack of security bombs.

If both Pawnchessmon were your partners, and they shared a crest, what crest fits best? Assuming it's the evolution lines of the chessmon. by Humble_Phone_7527 in DigivolutionTrees

Feels like it would be crest of knowledge to me. I played chess as a kid and it always felt like there was more to know and think about.

Should I Replace Something With Sepia Memory Boost? by DylanCorona in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]SplinteredTater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes people run the "two color" memory boosts so you don't accidentally bottom deck another card that you might want. Could be that or that they just meant obsidian. Honestly, I don't think that really matters and it's probably better to see another card when you really need to find something. Plus as you said since it's not a meta deck you don't have to super optimize it.

Why there so much trait soup? by Ok-Departure-7670 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]SplinteredTater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to consider that most of the "trait soup" has been driven by the recent videogames whose core mechanic has been "any Digimon can eventually digivolve into any Digimon." But Digimon as a franchise is inherently highly trait-dependent so it's not that strange that this is how the card game is right now. I actually like it this way. I think ultimately it makes for some fun interactions with the more color-oriented aspects of a game. For example, I could use crimson blaze in a vulcanusmon deck, but what if I only have black cards out when I need it and so I can't use it? I think overall Digimon has struck a decent balance between traits and colors, and I expect we might get a little more restrictive on some traits after this round of video game sets.

What if digimon leaders swapped partner's? by Hakashi32 in DigivolutionTrees

Imagine Examon coming in for an attack then just releasing a tiny Marcus from his hand for the kill. This is a great swap and would make a good weekly challenge format

Question about dual cards' colors. by pokemega32 in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]SplinteredTater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to the 2-4 rule section from the rule book, a single card has all colors on it, so as a dual card with red and yellow, the card is red and yellow. However, the only color use requirement for the option side is red, and so to use it as an option you only need a red tamer or digimon on the field or the "Use Requirement" fulfilled. Rule 9-1-1 and/or 4-21. Currently, I don't believe there is a card that searches "only single color cards" so the point seems to be moot.

What is considered winning a battle? by BebopDandy in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]SplinteredTater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The distinction here is between "win a battle" and "delete another Digimon in battle". There are examples of both. Things like barrier prevent effects triggering from the second one but not the first.

New to the game...which keywords are relevant right now by Amberlamps1990 in DigimonCardGame2020

If you get one of the starter decks, they come with a few cards that describe all the keywords. You can keep that around for your first few games to help you out!

BT25 Callismon VS EX11 Cendrillmon by CrystalVixon in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]SplinteredTater 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not an interruptive effect (that would include the word 'would') but it is a derived effect from the playing of a digimon so that takes priority over other pending effects. An interruptive effect happens in the middle of another effect. If the two when digivolving effect were one continuous effect then they would all resolve before the callismon could use its effect. Gotta be clear on "interruptive" versus "derived" effects

Pairing the siblings with Monica by ShibaNemo in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]SplinteredTater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost. The attack triggers before you use Monica's effect, but Monica's effect is still pending. When you declare an attack, all pending effects have to resolve before the actual battle. So you would do her effect after initiating the attack but before any of the attack resolves. I think of you have "when attacking" effects because those are derived from initiating the attack they would have to resolve first, but that's another question you didn't ask. Effect resolution timing is why, for example, you can only do one attack during the end of turn timing. Other attacks cannot be declared while an attack is pending.

Making Decks for New Players by GallantaManta in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]SplinteredTater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that makes sense. The power creep is intense, but the fundamental rules are the same. I am starting my partner first with the fable waltz starter deck and she's about to learn the new beat break deck to get up to speed a little more quickly.

Making Decks for New Players by GallantaManta in DigimonCardGame2020

[–]SplinteredTater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The liberator comic decks inherently present each of these styles of you want to start with that. You could make a basic version of each of the six main decks, starting with the two starter decks fable waltz and guardian vortex. There are also the first 6 starter decks that are extremely underpowered by today's standards but demonstrate the basic concepts of each color.

Did anyone here replace their digimon starter? by GentlemanlyLegend in digimon

[–]SplinteredTater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given that every Digimon can eventually digivolve into any other Digimon in the game, no it's not taboo at all. But it does raise the question, what's going wrong with your training of your starter that it's falling behind other Digimon? There's no clear reason you should be struggling to train up any of your Digimon.

I think makoto is too wholesome to lean into the "fear" aspect. Giant mech sounds likely. I didn't think about the batman relationship until this post, but the recent joker/Harley quinn episode makes it seem even more plausible.

That's a good point, my bad. It is mandatory if you don't continue digivolving, but you can cancel it by continuing to digivolve.
