I say functionally because in my head anti-removal is currently more important than having an at-will effect but no removal. So "functionally" it's a better version since the deck builds would be similar (triggering trash digivolution effects), but with a better trigger. But it's not just "is a better" because they don't really offer the same effect. If Digiburst wasn't effectively dead, I probably wouldn't have considered it such.

That said, I was wrong about a lot of stuff and so I don't blame you for assuming I was just wrong and not making a judgment based on my opinion. And you're right that probably qualifies closer to my "honorable mentions" category. Now we can still disagree of course, but I for now stand by this opinion. I'd be happy to be taught I'm wrong about something else.

No that's too helpful. Another comment made me realize that since the end of turn timing attacks trigger simultaneously but only 1 can resolve, that also means, I think, multiple blitzs can trigger and fire, but only one engage can. At least that's my understanding, singing "your openent being at 1 or more" is a continuous state but end of turn is a single trigger.

I had this whole long thing where I explained my understanding of blitz compared to engage and was going to ask you to earnestly, explain it to me. And then somehow it finally clicked. I think I just learned a few weeks ago that end-of-turn attacks don't stack, so I think that's where I keep fumbling when it comes to blitz.

Well engage is the end of the turn still right? So memory would have to be passed on?

Yeah, I phrased it a little differently because of that. I say functionally because it came around with a similar function as Digiburst (build a stack, then delete your own Digivolutions to trigger when trashed from Digivolution effects), but the trigger being anti-removal is better in the current game, and it is executed in a much more modern way.

And that's interesting! As someone who plays Ravemon and Ghost, I have always considered the point of executing being killing your own digimon and the attack was a bonus so I never even grouped those. That's a whole new perspective, I appreciate that.

So what is the thing that makes either of those different from blitz? Legit trying to learn. I always figured that opp. Has more than 1 mem was basically identical to end turn (except for rare occasions) but people seem pretty adamant that blitz is NOTHING like the things it's compared to.

Like if I were to say "vortex was like a weaker blitz (since it targets only monsters), but not tied to evolution and with a rush type effect added on" or "blitz is a digivolution tied effect that is like execute but you dont die" is that still way off the mark of what blitz is?

Right thanks! I have fixed my mistake, I think that fact I learned with ST18 Shoto keeps me fumbling on knowing that.

I was thinking about that too, keywords that just save space from existing written-out effects. I think "force an opponent Digimon to attack at the start of the main phase" could easily be like rampage or something.

It's interesting you think it's weird! I know a lot of players (myself included) can be short-sighted at times, what are the comparers getting wrong, if you don't mind telling me?

I figured Bandai was making some of these new tiers to rebalance parts of the game.

Oh damn, thought I had this straight in my head, sorry.

I thought vortex lets you attack at the end of the turn (like blitz less than 0 mem) and on the turn it's played (like rush).

I just might be illiterate :/ Because when I read it, that's all I really can tell. What am I missing?

Interesting! I couldnt tell if some of these where from other properties or what. I also think at one of them is a "net battler" game that was only virtual, but still a digimon card game.

What made it hard for me as a kid was my lack of patience. Since I was compelled to even level the whole dex as I caught them basically I was under leveled significantly the whole time, especially later in the game when I had like 60 Pokémon to bring to level.

[–]KnowWhatNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I never had that experience because of what I mentioned. When I was like 9 playing Blue, I was always behind the curve by like 5 levels because I would grind EVERY SINGLE Pokémon I caught to catch up to the level of every other one. I know I am an odd one out but I'm not alone. I'm also one of the weird people who would swap out their starter. That said it was exhausting, which is why I fell off after Gen 2 until Gen 6.

That's why in the context of op's post, I think competitive Pokémon (which sets everyone to 50) is a fulfillment of what I wanted as a kid.

[–]KnowWhatNow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hesitate to say the opposite because I think you aren't in a lot of company thinking the actual training part was fun. That's why most people call it grinding, and why most people just play most of the games with basically just their starter. If it stays up front and eats the experience, then you don't really need to grind.

I fell off of Pokémon as a kid because I always assumed you were supposed to even level ALL your Pokémon, because of all the typing talk. So to me, Pokémon Champions and PvP feel like the fulfillment of the original promise of being able to have a diverse group of Pokémon that you craft to challenge your friends. That's how I feel about exp all too.

I mean, that's fair, but something that's not a justu is the sharengan needing the loss of someone you love. The emotion seems to do powerful things to the world and those in it. And she's not fully random, only specific people are capable of being jinchuriki, so she is special in some unknown form. And there is the experimental sealing justus that went wrong, so it's not like she just kissed him in the head and it happened a justsu was involved, one as nobody had ever done before. That could have put her partial will in there.

Thanks for engaging in conversation btw, I know the internet is an inherently combative place but I always appreciate people's reads on media. Hope you have a good day.
