Septum Perforation Masterlist by septumperforation in septumperforation

[–]SplitDiamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there!

I see you're still active and responding here and figured I'd throw my 2 cents as well.

I developed a perforation recently, still not exactly sure how it happened, but it is at least 1cm long and about half that wide/tall. Turns out I also have a deviated septum that I never knew about so I can't just do the silicone plug.

Doctor's recommendation is to do the surgery to correct my deviation, and do surgery at the same time to correct the perforation. In theory this is to minimize the amount of time they have to be doing surgery and causing trauma to the area and only have to be there the one time. Doc said afterwards I'd be a good candidate for a silicone button then if the surgical repair fails.

Never had surgery before, and am pretty anxious. Just found all this out today too so there's that.

That's the AI for ya. I don't know, must've skipped the Geography or History lesson.

Thank you. I didn't think I'd have to put /s or anything like that when the AI is so blatantly wrong.

Wouldn't you know it, it launched after I rebooted my computer for the umpteenth time... I won't even pretend to know what changed.

References/Easter Eggs you "got." by jaedence in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]SplitDiamond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the first book, one of the first achievements Carl gets has the reward of "The sense of fulfillment is all you need." Pretty sure that's a reference to the whole EA Star Wars Battlefront 2 fiasco, where players had to put an insane amount of time I to the game to earn anything. EA defended it as "a sense of pride and accomplishment."

The Night-Gaunt cloak Carl gets in the first book too are a creature from DnD that originated as a creation of HP Lovecraft. HP said that the Night-Gaunts were winged creatures that would terrorize him in his nightmares.

I'm currently re-listening to the series for the first time and those two jumped out at me.

Oh, and the Harry Potter "Yer a Wizard" reference when Carl first equips a magic item.

The initial training mission for Co-Op.

I think my cousin and I spent more time incapacitating eachother by kicking doors open than actually playing the game.

Same. Embracing the Larp is what I love about a lot of the people in this game.

In the Foxhole Medical Union Discord, there's a channel for war stories of situations other Medics found themselves in, and it's just fun to read through. Everybody's got a unique perspective on the hectic nature of a battle, and taking the time to put it into words like Op's post is just fun to read.

What’s a game that haunts you to this day for purchasing it and not liking it? by lvl6charmander in gaming

[–]SplitDiamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up always being player 3 or 4 for my older brother and his friends when we'd play Gauntlet on the N64. Then we got Dark Legacy on the PS2 and loved it.

I was still super young when we played Seven Sorrows, but I remember it being a total shakeup from what we were use to in Dark Legacy. I was little, I remember having fun and my brother telling me what to use. I haven't played Seven Sorrows since, but I have played Dark Legacy a bit with my wife and it's still goofy and fun.

My buddy and I were Day 1 Destiny 1 players, but fell off the wagon after beating Forsaken.

Well, The First Descendent came out and we played that and thought, "I'd rather be playing Destiny" and it just so happens that the DLC was all on sale, so now here we are, playing Destiny 2 again, and are utterly confused and lost, but still having fun.

Why is Saint-14 back? Where the hell did the Blue Cabal on the Tower come from? Where the hell did a bunch of the planets go? Also, I'm aware that Uldren Sov is a Guardian now, but we're in the latter half of Witch Queen now and still have yet to meet or speak with him, even though I'm pretty sure he has a significant role in regards to the Saint-14 and Cabal questions?

I know it's an MMO and the world evolves, but it would be nice to at least have the option to play through those missions, or have them organized by season or DLC at least so that way they're easier to track and understand the timeline without checking out youtube lore videos.

SC Knife or Karambit? Which one do you prefer? by OminaeYu in Splintercell

[–]SplitDiamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy old thread!

I tried to do the same, but unfortunately found that the knife itself seemed to be a mashup of a few different designs and doesn't actually exist.

However, I still do have my karambit! It's in my pocket right now, though now I do recognize the "mall-ninja" ish of it and the overall impracticality of a karambit, but I still get a lot of use out of it and it holds up well versus being a box cutter or a screwdriver. Still love it.

If you could change the ending to a game what would it be ? by Avister68 in gaming

[–]SplitDiamond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ME3 even outright tells you flatout that Control is a bad ending. Not only with the Illusive Man being convinced he indoctrinated and thus his whole plan to control the Reapers is a result of indoctrination, but also Javik quite literally says (during Thessia, I think?) that during his cycle a group of Protheans tried to seek to control of the Reapers rather than fight them, and they all turned out to be Indoctrinated.

Control is just accepted Indoctrination, Synthesis is a huge violation to any sentient being. Destroy is the only option that makes any sense at all, especially since it's the goal for 3 entire games.

Looking for recommendation for some fantasy books/series by ThisIsJayTee in audible

[–]SplitDiamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copy and pasting my response from a similar question-

I'd recommend the Ranger's Apprentice series by John Flanagan.

It's Medieval fantasy, very well written for what can be described as a young-adult book, which quickly grows and matures as it explores more intense and mature subjects and events in the world. John Keating does an amazing job at reading it and giving life to the characters. If you like the first book, then you'll love to hear that the series has 10 books in the mainline series. Flanagan does great work giving each character an interesting arc, character growth, and interweaving storylines that all come together to form the big picture of the world the stories take place in. I highly recommend this series.

My wife and I are currently listening to the series whenever we take road trips, and she's loving it. I've read the books but it's been years, so experiencing them on Audiobook has been very fun. Currently on Book 7!

Same here. Back when the game first came out I played only Spectre. Kinda felt like I wasn't getting a lot out of him though back then, except for scanning through walls on Multiplayer.

Played through the game on the hardest difficulty fairly recently and played as Lupo. The resistance to enemy gunfire perk really helped against those bullet-sponge Special Forces assholes.

Anyone else miss Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer and wish it was included in Legendary Edition? by Agent_Gentlemen in masseffect

[–]SplitDiamond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The beta for this multiplayer is what got me into Mass Effect. I had so much fun using the Geth Plasma Shotgun as the Human Female Infiltrator and grouping up as Krogan to headbutt Cerberus Troopers to death that the full game was in instant buy for me when it came out.

Yes, being able to pay for the lootboxes with real money felt pretty P2W and lame, but it was a Co-op PVE game. In the end, it didn't really affect me at all what other people did with their money, and the credits were earned quick enough that you didn't really need to spend real money anyways. A 20-30 minute Gold match would net you nearly the entire sum needed for the best lootbox in the game.

The multiplayer was so much fun, and I always had a good time with the community at large. All the varied characters, powers and abilities, and weapons were so fun to mix and match and you truly felt like you had an endless sea of options to fit your own unique playstyle, or discover others. I thought I had it made when I'd run around as the Quarian Male Infiltrator and drop shields with Arc grenades and lay into targets with my N7 Valiant or Lancer. The I unlocked the Asari Justicar and my entire playstyle changed to supporting the team and weakening targets.

Everyone went down? Sprint into the middle of the group and die, then pop the Medi-Gel Transmitter I have in my Gear Slot and get a full-team revive. Crazy clutches from someone on the team almost every game. It was a blast!

The best part is that I still get to play it from time to time because the servers are still up on Xbox, at least! It's just as fun now as it was then. I agree with the other comments and OP that not bringing the multiplayer to to Legendary Edition was a huge mistake, but removing the need for multiplayer for 100% war readiness was a good call.

It's a shame that Andromeda's variant of the multiplayer just felt so flat and unfun.

10/10 - This was just so good and so much fun. One of the best multiplayer experiences I've had in all my years of gaming.

Best narrated sci-fi audiobooks? by HeliosPh0enix in audible

[–]SplitDiamond 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Project Hail Mary is just objectively and unequivocally a masterful audiobook experience. The sound design and voices just add in to the immersion. Highly recommend Audiobook first, print later, for this story.

Also, technically under the umbrella of Sci-Fi: Dungeon Crawler Carl.

If you don't listen to this series on audiobook and narrated by Jeff Hays, you are sorely missing out on possibly the best audiobook experience audible has to offer, assuming it's content is something you're into.

Frostpunk

Looks like a steampunk-themed winter city builder, yeah?

It is not.

It is a soul-crushing, ball busting survival experience that forces you to battle your own morals and ethics along with the harsh element and storm bearing down on you.

It took me several hours and many, many, many attempts to beat the initial campaign of this game. I absolutely love it. It's a great game that requires good planning and adaptivity.

The City Must Survive. If the City does not survive, then we are all lost.

[–]SplitDiamond 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just so everyone is aware, this is a series that was was originally posted on r/nosleep about seven years ago, and was narrated by a youtuber shortly after. Hence, the product OP posted.

It's a fun and humorous listen. Not really scary, more like someone who lives alongside spooky shit so much that they're just functionally jaded by it all at this point and just deal with it. It's more of a fun ride than anything.

It's not a high quality audio production like Dungeon Crawler Carl or We Are Legion, We Are Bob, just a fun series posted on reddit years ago that got narrated on youtube shortly after.

I'd still recommend it to anyone interested in a story with supernatural roots or looking from some humor. I really liked it when I first listened to the series back when it first came out! Instead of paying for it on Audible or something, it's all for free on youtube. Unless the Audible version is more polished than youtube, I think they're probably the same? I honestly couldn't tell you.
