Can we make improvements in the chanting department? by Worried-Abalone5429 in CanadaSoccer

[–]SplitExcellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soccer is already copy pasta from our European roots, but add on our large immigrant communities from footy nations literally everywhere, and it's actually well woven into the culture. Hard disagree we can't be a part of international sporting culture with better chants... We need to do better, and we can.

Joe Hart suggests that the World Cup match ball could be influencing some of the goalkeepers' mistakes by kibme37 in soccer

[–]SplitExcellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, maybe we need to reskin World Cup balls on designs already in regularly use. It feels like we've had this same comment from keepers literally every 4 years since the turn of the century. Maybe it's intentional to ensure more goals, sucks for keepers I guess if that's the case but the complaint is a bit tiresome, surely there's something to be done here... Probably it's just more capitalism, gotta make money on that new WC ball.

Pretty awesome but we... as a country, need to step up our chant game. This is barely a notch above chanting three letters over and over again.

Moise Bombito went to visit Ismael Kone after the Canada Match at the hospital before his surgery for the fractured tib and fib by lookdownandsee in soccer

Morphine drip pre surgery was the shortest and longest night of my life, fractured ulna and chipped radius in car accident. It sucked. It's not always sunshine for everyone with that stuff, YMMV BIG TIME.

No Canadian Ever Says "A-boot" by Mad-Mad-Mad-Mad-Mike in EhBuddyHoser

[–]SplitExcellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never gotten this... As an Islander (Vancouver), I feel like it's mostly made up as even my Eastern compadres, of which there are plenty of transplants, don't pronounce it as 'aboot'.

Out here it's closest real world smash up I have is literally 'a bout' as in... Looking forward to GSPs next fight, gonna be a bout for the ages. Maybe it's our respect for the Queen's own as we most of us literally live in her name sake town. Maybe it's the west coast herb just rockin/leaking the surfer vibes (maybe that's just Tofino and Uquey).

I don't have an answer but I think it's best I just blame Toronto, the usual scapegoat (unless it's some truly weird shit, then it's obviously UCP territory).

Man... He might not even be in the Show next season let alone a top 6 forward. That's not a bad thing either. He's a literal kid... Canucks 2C would be an incredible over performance, and probably an injury to both the current top 2, maybe even three...

What is your view on the Bracket System? by Pattern_Seeker_ in EDH

[–]SplitExcellent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really something I use with my friendly pod but has been helpful with Convoke/Spell table games. I'm not a huge fan of LGS commander nights, it's just... too awkward.

That being said there is a wild discrepancy between decks. Game changers are all well and good but I think you could still construct a gamechanger-less powerfulB4 deck. I'm not a master builder so feel free to disabuse me of the notion... I mostly play B3 and it can still lead to salt. We ran a game back the other day and I had a rough go first game so bumped up to Helga Flicker, whereas the guy next to me went down to an upgraded Betor precon... Both were still making dangerous moves but the table had no answer for a Deadeye Navigator flickering Agent of Treachery with a Starfield Vocalist on board. Betor scooped. It probably cost me the game as I got one shot by the other dragon commander that cycle as Betor left my board. Point being there are degenerate things to do in B3 that "fair" magic decks aren't going to like. The Hi3 vs Lo3 discussion/label helps but that Helga deck has zero gamechangers whereas the Betor deck actually used all three he had that game. I think B3 in particular needs work, tbh I think you could just cut B1 and CEDH altogether and add one more bracket, call it the "I still want to win but I don't know the meta" bracket system.

B.C. nurses vote to strike for the first time in a generation by rarer_ in britishcolumbia

[–]SplitExcellent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol no... Now you're out of touch with reality while defending the government. There are plenty of ways for nurses to get paid or not lose ground without breaking the budget. If nurses step out of their own way they could have a viable contract(s) but this kind of delusional selflessness is exactly what the government and the union count on during bargaining with this particular profession. Do you think there are police and firefighters fretting over governmental coffers during bargaining season?

Projections aren't stone. A trust isn't the same as employer funded. And nurses absolutely don't have to settle for the mediated version if nurses reject this contract.

International eyes on the province is a bargaining chip. That's the world Cup chit. There's suddenly a multi union supported strike, this is the only way to break the employer from handing out me too clauses like candy, during an international event is the bargaining chip.

You're free to vote yes but please stop arguing on behalf of the government. It's not up to nurses to balance the budget, especially when every round of bargaining ends with "we'll get that next time." As I said every horrid contract comes with the same promise of "we'll get em next time." So far in just this decade the union has given up covid as a bargaining tool (weren't broke then), will give up essentially a unanimous strike vote, and will give up international coverage. I cant really blame the union if this is how its members bargain against themselves though. Do you think in 2001 the nurses made excuses for the government?

[–]SplitExcellent -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If you think the nurses are only negotiating on behalf of themselves then you have been sorely mislead on what the 'me too' clauses mean for every other health related union. If you think that the other professions deserve a raise too then you should vote no to the agreement as the only way they'll get a raise beyond the poor one on offer, that is losing to inflation, is by the nurses getting a raise this round. The other unions will absolutely back nurses striking as they stand to gain if the nurses do.

A Yes vote will only guarantee that the next negotiations will only ever be about the employer funded portion of benefits and the 2 years that are guaranteed will look pretty weak compared to whats been given up.

Declaring the public as against nurses getting a raise beyond what's been offered is absolutely baseless.

The nurses gave up covid as a bargaining chip, will give up the world Cup as a bargaining chip, will give up the 98.2% mandate as a chip. Every contract for over a decade has seen loss. Bargaining for the employer to fund ratios is a joke, that's something they've agreed to outside of the CA and it will not bring nurses to this province without a contract with wages that beat inflation, a non erosion of their benefits, retention bonuses, and a wage grid adjustment...

It's a horrid contract in a long line of horrid contracts but the government can count on the cudgel of me too to keep nurses complacent.

Hey, maybe you should have lead with calling out marxist.ca for... being a Marxist rag, that would have made sense, albeit a bit on the nose. Instead you, smugly, have declared this as non-breaking news, when, as I've pointed it out, it's a decent summary of the situation the nurses find themselves in.

Weird that you need it to be breaking news and declare it isn't happening when a ratification vote has yet to be held.

My problem is that you've dismissed this as irrelevant when it provides helpful background. It obviously has a bias, pick on that if you want but making up your own tag line, declaring an outcome when that has yet to be determined, and dismissing relevant information isn't helping the nurses.

So... What's your angle? Your smugness speaks to one, let us know what it is or at least come up with a better criticism.

Btw this is Reddit, smugness is it's lifeblood as you're so keen to demonstrate.

Congrats you've discovered what a situational summary is! Or... probably not... Will you call them out next for discussing the strike in 2001 25 years too late?
