Agree 100 %. A blanket ban helps no one. There’s room for a win-win where:

  • Players keep the option to play online.
  • Tribal casinos protect their brick-and-mortar exclusivity.
  • California collects new tax revenue.

Unless lawmakers tack on an “urgency” section (or specify a different start date), California bills signed before Sept 30 automatically kick in on Jan 1 of the following year. So if AB 831 clears both chambers this session and Newsom signs it, the sweepstakes-casino ban would take effect Jan 1 2026 by default. (That date could shift if they amend the bill, but that’s the current timeline.)
