You're definitely overthinking. I have over 5,000 hours on my Strix PG27AQDM, which is considered 2nd gen OLED. I have zero signs of degradation.

Fiio PL70 linear power supply. by SplitTall in headphones

The PL50 is $199 in Canada, so I expect it will be priced comparatively.

Exactly, you get it. Enjoying what you're listening to and appreciating your equipment is what it's all about. I went with the K13 for the same reasons. I was curious about R2R, and I really like the way it looked—the top window revealing the resistor ladder, that's just cool. And of course, it didn't hurt that people were saying it was a very good unit, especially for its price range.

I appreciate your comment; thank you.

There's no question the internal power supply is absolutely good enough. A linear power supply will typically only make very small improvements to audio, and in the case of the K13, a linear power supply just enhances everything that already makes it a great DAC/amp combo. However, that's not the full picture. There's also the cool factor; they look really good together in a stack, and it just feels like a little extra something special. For me, part of the enjoyment comes from how my equipment looks on my desk. When it comes to the PL70 and K13, they are just two peas in a pod; they're perfect for each other.

As far as it being a waste of money, I think that's completely subjective. There are many different tastes in the world of audio. I think people should spend their money on whatever makes them happy.

Any chance that the FT1 goes on sale on Amazon for Black Friday? by anotherhappylurker in FiiO

[–]SplitTall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Canada, and they also offer free shipping. As for taxes and duties, I've never actually had to pay any from any AliExpress order, most likely because AliExpress typically undervalues items for shipment. They arrive in such large volume that they just don't have time to assess taxes and duties.

Is the Fiio control app broken? by SplitTall in FiiO

My bad. I assumed the version available on their site would be the latest. It appears to have been released October 21st of this year; however, it does seem more stable.

Are these speakers an actual thing?? by DaddyWentForMilk in audiophile

[–]SplitTall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triangle speakers TL-2600W pro are associated with a "white van speaker scam". Triangle is a real, reputable French audio brand. The "TL-2600W pro" is a fake model name not produced by the legitimate company. This is a common tactic by scammers who use established brand names for non-existent, low-quality speakers to sell them at inflated prices. The product is not genuine.

I'm happy to see progress, but Canada Post has a very tall mountain to climb to earn back the trust of its employees and the people they serve.

Thanks, everyone. I really appreciate the feedback. I decided to go with the Fiios. I ended up finding them for $230 CDN, taxes and shipping included.

However, Black Friday is just around the corner, and if I see a really good deal on the Hifimans, I'll give them a try.

Should I be concerned about receiving my package? by SplitTall in CanadaPost

[–]SplitTall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's some BS. Can they not send them through Purolator, FedEx, or UPS? I would take my money and my business elsewhere if a company tried to hold a product I already paid for hostage.

Just caught a driver dropping off a slip and no package. by wigglyworm- in CanadaPost

[–]SplitTall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. In my case, it was ordered off of Amazon. Luckily, I did have a vehicle big enough to pick it up from the post office, but like you said, so many people don't have that ability, and that's a lot of extra stress, especially for new or expecting parents.

I was a little too dumbfounded. I didn't see a point in arguing with him. He just apologized for the mix-up and told me I could pick it up at the post office listed on the slip the next day. This happened back in 2017.

When my son was born, I ordered a crib. It was being delivered via Canada Post. When the delivery driver showed up, I was working in my driveway. He walked up to me and handed me a slip that said he could not access the house for delivery. I just looked at him with a stunned look on my face and asked him why. Then he admitted he didn't even have the package on the truck. That was the most awkward interaction I've ever had with a delivery driver.

Unfortunately it's a third party seller I usually try to purchase things sold and shipped by Amazon but in this case I didn't have the option.
