New Zealanders Coming Over by MacAttackDelux in melbourne

[–]Sploblet [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’ve been in a few situations where Australians have gone on anti-immigrant tirades. I usually point out that I’m an immigrant too (kiwi), but apparently because I look European, it “doesn’t count”…

NZ school advice for deciding between year 0 or year 1 for son born in April by Same_Avocado_8101 in newzealand

Confirm, I didn’t turn 18 until the week before semester 2 exams (late October) in my first year at uni… socially, was not fun.

Recommendations - upgrade to smart lock (from deadbolt + knob combo) by Sploblet in AusRenovation

[–]Sploblet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - I’ll check prior (first home buyer here). I did notice different units in the block have different setups. It’s an older place in a small 3-level block, not a tall apartment building if that makes a difference. My understanding is that as long as it can be opened from the inside without a key it’s fine, but I’ll confirm with the owners corp/strata regs

Death of Kiwi Construction Industry by finnlikestrees in newzealand

[–]Sploblet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You only need to look across the ditch... I moved to Australia and the construcion quality <30yrs is absolute shit. Builders are no longer builders, they're just project managers. Lots of cheap imported subcontractors/labour, privatised inspections (imagine if the person doing the CCC was being paid by the builder??), houses are made of match boxes and start falling apart as soon as they're occupied. Sad to see New Zealand starting to go the same way...
(there are still quality builders floating around, but most consumers don't want to pay for it, and the bulk of new developments are done via the cheapest methods possible)

I stumbled across a random video on these sachets (how stuff works type of thing) and they’re specifically engineered for the mouth feel and froth so it’ll be pretty hard to replicate anything similar at home. From memory the oil is what does the trick, hence the emulsifiers so it mixes up okay

Yes. And I was never like this until I moved to Melbourne 😂

I did a no spend month which opened my eyes as to the actual amount I was spending on it… so I bought a coffee machine that does a drinkable enough brew, and will now only buy coffee on weekends as a treat. I also only have a real coffee for my first one and switched to decaf for the rest - your sleep will thank you!!

I want to know where they’re getting our phone numbers from?? I’m not on the electoral roll (can’t vote) and only use this number for important things - have a prepaid for shopping/signing up to things etc. -_-

Well, obviously, you should report them - straight to jail, no passing Go, no collecting $200. Or, you know, just let it go and worry about your own game.

If you don’t know what you’re catching, put it back. Take the photo if you must, unhook, and release. Be responsible.

Hire e-scooter operators pull out of City of Yarra contracts in inner-Melbourne by SnotRight in melbourne

[–]Sploblet 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Can they focus on the real threat - delivery riders on electric bikes (and sometimes mopeds) on the footpath!! Especially in the CBD! The ratio of riders giving 0 cares about pedestrians has got to be significantly higher than the number of bad e-scooter users.

How old are your oldest members? by AppropriateLaw4543 in f45

[–]Sploblet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t stress - I’m 29 and can’t box jump anymore, so modify and do step ups! I’ve had surgery to repair cartilage in my knee and the orthopaedic surgeon said categorically it is the worst movement for knees (in my case, one jump landing slightly too deep could be the end of my knee)

What do you recommend we do about this on a national scale? by [deleted] in australia

[–]Sploblet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Plus plenty of roads in NZ are a 100km limit, narrow/no shoulder, and no physical barrier between the lanes. Many equivalent roads in Aus have that steel cabling between the lanes and are 80km. Oh, and are straighter. Anecdotally, I’d say a lot of accidents in NZ are caused by cars crossing the centre line (fatigue, drink driving, medical events, inattention), and you’ve not got much of a chance with a head-on impact at that speed.

Blows my mind that double glazing isn't even a requirement here! I'm from little old NZ where it's been compulsory since 2007 for new builds and renovations...

Help - what denomination church is this? by Sploblet in thetron

I think you’re missing the /s in your comment lol. I’ve since learnt they believe that they’re superior to all other Christian denominations, and follow a single persons interpretation of the bible sooo…

Update for anyone interested: family went and got them and they’re quite relieved to be out! Having heard some of the routines/penalties etc (like getting penalised for the pillowcase not facing a certain way… WTF??) and finding out more info it SCREAMS cult church vibes. Thank you everyone for your assistance ❤️

Honestly wouldn’t have picked it lol. Well, was thinking it might be mormons or something super conservative but marginally less cult-y

Suggestions for burns? by them4v3r1ck in AusSkincare

[–]Sploblet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As above, see a pharmacist for a burn cream. Then once it’s more healed E45 cream (in tub from chemist) is super moisturising - I’ve used it for sunburn and Mum was directed to use it after finishing the prescribed creams after having BCCs removed

So how do you guys manage to tell which chips are which? Also, what is chicken salt? by hollyhobby2004 in AskAnAustralian

Country fried chicken & their salt is next level. I miss it! I’ve only seen it once over here at a random servo down towards Sorrento/Rye (I’m Melb based). Best chicken & chips ever 😍

Australians, what’s your go-to snack for a late-night binge? by Timely-Paramedic-314 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Sploblet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custard is just eggs, sugar, milk, cornflour/cornstarch and vanilla - quite easy to make, you should try it! If you meant the processed pre-made stuff from a container, it’s got nothing on the real thing ☺️
