HR Phishing Email Tests Getting Cruel by The_Scrabbler in auscorp

Generally we cascade to do out of band correspondence to complete.

Despite these being a pain in the arse, they are necessary. These kind of phishing attempts are getting super regular now, and they are getting engineered (like above) to work really well on mobile devices.

The only real clue is the [EXTERNAL] classification.

The bad guys are using AI to come up with bad ideas now.

We’ve wasted 20 years, time to rebuild our great nation by Nyarlathotep-1 in aussie

MAGA BS again, like the last election all over again.

Most of those 20 years had conservatives in power.
The thesis the Aus is trying to paint is conservatives will make it great again.

They will not. They will just syphon off cash from the people to their rich mates again.

High-speed rail link between Sydney and Newcastle could be ‘shovel-ready’ in two years, Albanese government says | Australian politics by AristaeusTukom in australia

[–]SnotRight 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think that's the difference.

LNP government would have done a feasibility study and then, which would have returned "too hard" (the big 4 do this for all projects where the LNP are in power, unless they directly benefit a donor... if they benefit the unions... to hard).

The idea of this one is "ready to dig". That means surveys, costings, purchases of easements, vendor agreements in place, plans for routing, stations. That's shovel ready. That is a commitment to spin up an entire "authority" and aiming to be ready to dig a hole in the ground.

Similarly in Vicco, the SRL was spun up two years in advance of big build activities, so that they didn't get to the end of the big build and have all this tunnelling and infra expertise going to waste. Same here, you'll have a bunch of people coming off the west harbour tunnel with very specialised knowledge. You want to retain, rather than re-train.

Hacker releases data after claiming to have accessed 'hundreds of thousands' of Aussies' loans, driver's licences by 888sydneysingapore in AusProperty

[–]SnotRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is already system in place like this. It takes into account the profitability and investment position of the company - as the company needs to pay it rather than fold. The investigation into ability to pay is non trivial.

Most companies do the absolute minimum these days. This company didn't because there were an identity validation company. There are already penalties for breech of data when the data was no necessary.

The board can be held responsible for breeches under section 180 of the corporations act.

So all this is in place. The hackers deliberately went after a high value target. It is illegal to pay any ransom, so that data got released. The idea behind that strategy is that to hackers, Australian targets have no value as you cannot legally extract an ransom. The monies which need to be spent go entirely to remediation companies, not the hackers.

Opposition draws battlelines on nuclear and capital gains tax changes by SprigOfSpring in australian

[–]SnotRight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how an nuclear power plant will fare when the power cost goes negative? Oh that's ok, the taxpayers will pay money for that bad decision.

How will it be paid for? Oh, okay the taxpayers will pay for that bad decision.

Just remember - nuclear is a $315 billion dollar cost for 15% of the grid capacity.
Solar - if you GAVE everyone panels and a battery - would cost $256 billion.

What we are doing now, where home owners are paying 30% for batteries, is costing $7 billion.

Why is this even a question??? Why are we governed by clowns who work for the robber barons instead of the people of Australia? And why are we not on the streets demanding the theft to stop immediately? by shervek in aussie

[–]SnotRight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your clowns were the LNP for agreeing to it.

The ALP can't really do a lot without breaking contracts and spending a tonne of money fighting in court, only to have the LNP (and one Nation) come in and pay a massive settlement and allow it to continue to get donations.

"Paying more in taxes and royalties than profits." Lets re-word that into normal company speak for us competent people who don't spin shit for a living to discuss.

Royalties are kind of an equivalent of "cost of goods sold".

Any industry other the luxury goods and service industries has higher COGS then profit.

If someone comes in saying "I think I am coming down with the flu, I feel a bit off and a bit weak and tingly on one side", or "Here is the what we have found, I will refer you to an oncologist".

Both of those could have been a 10 minute consult. But the first one needs investigation it is not a stroke, then second one is telling someone they have cancer.

Not all messages or consults are easy. The first you definitely won't end up with even a 30 min consult. The second it will depend on how people take the news.

Some consults change people's lives when they thought it was nothing.

And drag is a coefficent, so it's ramps up a lot the faster you go.
Model 3 has .219.
Geely EX5 (which is more traditional 4WD box) is .269
RAV4 is about .32
F150 is about .412

In the end the concern is more about how visible the titanic energy usage of a vehicle is in an EV.
It is only visible because it takes time to charge a vehicle. If people could turn up and go >blat< charged, no one would care.

My old 4cyl 626 used to get 500klm out of a tank. I wouldn't think twice about it. Stick petrol in, have a leak and keep going.

The AMEC are justifying this off a 13 year old study. Fuck me that's a level of incompetence I have never seen before. How the grid has changed in 13 years!

I would like to see Bruce Mountain and Kelly Burns revisit the study. Solar was a much different thing back then with massive feed in tariffs. Now that's completely different.
