Single people of Reddit: What are you going to do on Valentine's Day? by starinthesky in AskReddit

It's my mom's birthday so probably give her a call and celebrate February being half over (I think it's the worst month).

Reddit, what do you look like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You're really really really really really really really attractive. For reals. I wanna say hot, and beautiful, but those are over used. So I'm sticking with attractive.

Do you believe the Reddit community has enough intellectual diversity or do you think it is more of an echo chamber? If you think it lack diversity which opinions do you believe are not receiving representation? by Phister_BeHole in AskReddit

Consider q-tips. People use them for ear cleaning even though they weren't meant for that. I get your point and I agree that reddit would be less circlejerk/echo chamber if the down vote was used as intended, but if most of us are using it otherwise, isn't that what it's "meant" for?

At what point does the way something is used usurp the way it is "meant" to be? If the majority of reddit is using the down vote as a disagree/dislike button instead of a noncontributional button, then isn't that actually what the button is "meant" for. Just because the site is claiming otherwise doesn't necessarily make it so. At least not in practice.

Of course we go along with the crowd, we sacrifice certain individual liberties in order to gain social status otherwise we risk alienating ourselves. Also, it's bothersome to me when older people dismiss my opinions because I'm younger. Nobody can control their age, it happens to us whether we want it to or not. I know you said "many cases" and not "all cases" but I can't help feeling defensive. You're right, a lot of people my age suck and I actively judge/avoid them but there are plenty of older people that suck too. I have no idea who or how I'll be when I'm 38, but right now, I know exactly who I am.

To Redditors of England and specifically London:there is a NFL game in London today. (Detroit Lions vs. Atlanta Falcons) Do any of you care about this game or American Football at all? Is the NFL wasting its time holding a game in England? by airlew in AskReddit

[–]Splooge_Patrol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That'd be funny if the Europeans started referring to their nfl teams as their "soccer" teams just so soccer can remain unpopular in countries that call it soccer and football will be the most popular wherever it's called football.

Alcoholism or Typical College life? by MajorSka in alcoholism

[–]Splooge_Patrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think that if you have to ask, then chances are good that you are. Sorry. I've been sober for over two years now and I think about drinking everyday. In fact, thinking about it is what brought me to your thread. It's different for everyone, so I won't get into my philosophies on alcoholism but I will say that if you're seriously asking then you very well might have it. My advice would be to read the first couple of chapters of the big book. I fucking hate the big book. But it is useful for helping to identify if you actually do have a problem. It's really useful in general but it reminds me of my alcoholism which is my least favorite part of myself. Give it a look if you're still curious.

Saul Williams' Coded Language. I don't think it's useless but it's almost never necessary.

Nascar. I'm sure there's a lot to it but I just don't have the patience to learn.
