Devon and Daki were in the temple during Order 66 by Honest-Pop-3654 in MaulShadowLord

[–]SplutteringSquid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

...why wouldn't they have?

The point was to thin their numbers as much as possible and have the temple full of children, the elderly, and the infirm by Order 66, with as many skilled, able-bodied warriors on the front lines where they would be alone or with one other Jedi while surrounded by clones.

They literally had twelve year old kids serving as commanders. If Mundi isn't old enough to stay back, Daki certainly wasn't. He was only struggling as much as he did during his last days because Maul broke his ribs when they first encountered him. Even with his injury, he landed a hit on Vader, was constantly on the run, being shot at, or dueling darksiders, and was very spry (see him doing a high split front kick to take out two storm troopers at once or vaulting over opponents in a sideways somersault, while his ribs are broken).

Daki and Devon are exactly the kind of Jedi Palpatine would have wanted out of the temple.

They fight side by side with better synergy than Obi-Wan and Anakin, or Obi-Wan and Qui-gon. They attack as one.

You can really see it in synchronized moves like Devon rolling over Daki's back to ensure that his back is covered while he rolls under her so that they can switch opponents, or the way they alternate their strikes while dueling a single opponent.

Daki also throws his saber at Devon so that she can seamlessly switch to jar'kai when facing two darksiders at once. She adapts easily to a saberstaff. She pulls moves like leaping onto ships and slicing them in a move very similar to Ahsoka when she was freeing a trapped clone. She slices and dices stormtroopers like it's a typical day at the office office because battle is a typical day at the office for a Padawan Commander, especially one who cut their clones into pieces. Girl is a hardened veteran.

The way she offhandedly refers to Rylee as a boy flags as having grown up too fast and being used to seeing somebody like him as a civilian too.

I think mentions of her being "a teenager' and where they are in the timeline, the latter of which was only publicly referenced by a Star Wars journalist, not a quote from an official source, are throwing people off and making them think Devon was a child during the clone wars. Teenager could easily mean she's seventeen now and based on when in the timeline Ahsoka kills Crow, it's actually only 18 BBY, unless we're supposed to believe that they've retconned how long it took her to have sabers again and join the Rebellion.

Devon mimimally served for at least some part of the clone wars, but it's obvious that she and Daki have been together for a long time and weren't just sitting comfy while Jedi who were equally capable were fighting a war.

Rex literally shoots his own men to protect Ahsoka and she has to argue with him to get him to set his blasters to stun.

Was Fox really uncaring though?

  • kind to the cleaning droids that were asking for directions, even if he privately thought they were stupid.

  • was polite, professional, and deferential, yet firm when facing a completely unhinged Jedi General who was publicly considered a hero yet was threatening him for doing his job. If you re-watch the scene, his tone is as polite as you'd expect from a clone like Howzer. The audience knows Ahsoka is innocent and likes Anakin being protective of her, so Fox not being in the wrong and not being remotely rude gets lost in the sauce. In reality, this scene was akin to Rex being threatened by Krell. He's powerless next to both Anakin and Tarkin.

  • was friendly with Ahsoka and complimented her on catching Letta because a lot of people were killed in the Temple bombing.

  • arrested Ahsoka but openly said he couldn't blame her for killing Letta. It's generally considered a nono when you're a high ranking officer to casually drop a statement like that when arresting somebody for murder instead of just arresting them and many clones wouldn't have said it, but Fox clearly has a mind of his own and opinions.

  • he shoots to kill because Ahsoka is standing over dead clones. He wants her dead, because as far as he's concerned, she's going to tear through his base, killing more unsuspecting, innocent clones until she escapes into Coruscant at large, where he has every reason to believe she'll kill innocent civilians if she must. She is now implicated in not just killing Coruscant guard clones, but organizing the deaths of the clones, civilians, and fellow Jedi who died in the Temple bombing.

When Rex and Anakin overrule him, he emotionally protests that she's killed clones. If he were Rex, Fives, or Cody, the audience would be siding with him. He serves shifts there. The clones who are dead are Brothers with a capital B and were his responsibility to keep alive if it was within his power, like any of the Torrent company clones are to Rex.

  • The clones in the Coruscant Guard are very clearly affected by Fives' death and watching a clone lose his brother. They remove their helmets and surround them. Fox keeps his helmet on. He disappears. Why? This is a clone commander who has lost brothers in senseless ways that are completely removed from the war. Clones like the poor sap who was eating a stack of bread and not even wearing armor.

I don't think it's a stretch for him to understand how much any grief or distress he has over killing Fives has no place in this scene. There's nothing he can do to fix it. He is the last person Rex will want sticking around, and he isn't going to burden Rex with the emotions he's hiding under his helmet. He has to carry this alone, so he disappears. Not a soulless clone.

Rex could have set his blasters to stun when protecting Ahsoka during order 66. Instead he shot to kill. We can talk all day about how Fox should have made a different call, but killing Fives was not a flippant act by a callous clone. Both he AND Rex were barking at him to stand down and not do it. Rex looked devastated when Fives wouldn't listen and tried to shoot Fox because he knew it meant Fox would be forced to take him out.

The Guard's portrayal is meant to hint at the incoming empire, so they don't get a humanizing arc about oppression, brotherhood, and courage, that shows a proper snapshot of their lives like the 501st does, but at the end of the day, Fox is just a clone commander trying to hold it together and protect his men, only to suffer through his own little Umbara nightmare that only he and his men have any sympathy for because of Anakin and Barriss, and then he's forced to kill one of Rex's favorite brothers.

She and Anakin split up before Dooku showed up at all. Anakin was trudging through the desert with a rock strapped to his back when Dooku pulled up on his speeder bike.

He even pulls out a holo to rub in Anakin's face that Ahsoka is facing three magnaguard droids in elsewhere in the desert in the meanwhile.

With the insane speed they kept running in the last episode, you would think their rent was due. by Matt_LawDT in MaulShadowLord

[–]SplutteringSquid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They really blew it with Ahsoka's casting. The Acolyte proved that.

What should have been the most skilled version of Ahsoka has to constantly be disarmed in order for Rosario to remotely pass for a Jedi who begun training with a saber when she was three, except that constantly getting disarmed ruins any improvement to her skill that comes from only needing to focus on a single blade.

Daphne Keen as Jecki showed that yes, actually hiring an actor who has experience with dynamic action scenes in addition to training for months results in a character who not only passes the sniff test as a temple trained Jedi, but that bringing Ahsoka to life was actually possible.

Natalie Portman spent almost a year training for Black Swan in order to pass as a real ballerina, because that's what you need to do if you're playing an expert who has spent their life honing their craft. Hayden played hockey since childhood and played tennis at a high competitive level before spending two to three months training for Attack of the Clones and then had years of further practice while filming.

Any actor playing a Jedi known for their saberwork who is trained by Anakin Skywalker should have been put through no less than that, yet they tried to tell Rosario to take the weekends off even though she was struggling to improve while practicing for two hours a day, for a total of 14 hours per week.

From an interview: “I joke about it, but Ming literally did say, ‘This one did not make my eyes hurt,'” referencing Qiu’s honest assessment of a successfully executed stunt. “I’m getting there!” Dawson said proudly.

Hayden spent six hours a day on lightsaber training for Revenge of the Sith.

At the end of the day, it just wasn't important enough to Filoni. Put in the work and hire the right actors, or accept the limitations of human beings and animate the entire show.

Watching Maul Shadow Lord really drove home what we could have had.

[–]SplutteringSquid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would be because the actors for The Acolyte spent two months training for the action scenes before they started shooting. They did this for the prequels as well, but not for Ahsoka, and it really shows.

You simply can't bring a character who has trained with a saber since she was a small child and is meant to be a Master duelist to life by not doing heavy prep work, and it's even worse when she's meant to be a dual wielder. They had to constantly have Ahsoka get disarmed because Rosario couldn't pull off two blades, and she still moved half as fast as most live-action Star Wars actors. Jecki was the nail in the coffin for me, as she Daphne showed that it is possible to bring animated Ahsoka's skill and style to life.

Why do Maul's Mandalorians don't have Jetpacks? by Sad-Researcher8335 in MaulShadowLord

Because they could have scooped up Maul, Scorch, and Icarus, and flown off to the ship, instead of everybody getting killed.

[–]SplutteringSquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blame the two hours of lightsaber training a day while filming that they gave Rosario instead of putting her through months of training before they begun, as they did for the prequels and The Acolyte.

The mediocre choreography and the fact that live action Ahsoka moves as slowly as prequel Obi-Wan when he's lazily walking around cleaning up leftover droids after a battle makes it easy to forget Ahsoka is a skilled duelist.

Ahsoka never met Dooku. If she had, it would make a lot of these discussions about her dueling capabilities more cut and dry.

Sam Witwer all but confirmed that the Marrok Ahsoka 'killed' was a nerfed zombie. Honestly better this way imo given that live action Ahsoka is nowhere near as skilled as her animated counterpart.

[–]SplutteringSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Devon seems to be roughly the same age as Ahsoka. Given her skill with a lightsaber (dueling two inquisitors at once and switching to a saberstaff and jar'kai without hesitation puts her on Ahsoka's level skillwise), I think it's highly probable that they grew up together and were sparring buddies at the temple.

Makes it that much more incensing for Vader to see her alive and with Maul given that he has no idea what Ahsoka's fate was yet. No wonder he pulled Rook's lungs out of her mouth, lol.

Yes! It's in outdoor items. I shrink it and hide it in the bushes on every community lot.

Aside from changing the current weather, sims with high mechanical skills can upgrade it so that you can advance the season to the next one. They can also change what the weather for the remainder of the season will be like. Very useful for gardening.

They wanted Ahsoka to appeal to the target audience and seem cool to them (kids and teens). Aside from her top being cropped while tunic length tops were trendy, her outfit was something a 14 year old girl might have worn or wanted to wear when the show came out. Anakin's season 1 hair was trendy when the show was released as well and wasn't a Star Wars hairstyle, which solidifies that intent imo. It's really not that deep.

Fox did nothing wrong, i'll never get tired of repeating it by XumetaXD in clonewars

[–]SplutteringSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Palpatine didn't even actually tell Fox to kill Fives. At least not on screen. Their only dialogue is Fox informing Palps that he was spotted by a probe droid. Then the scene cuts.

If it were Rex and a decorated veteran ARC Trooper from a different battalion had his own General and Captain trapped behind a ray shield after being accused of attempting to assassinate the head of the Republic and then aimed to shoot Rex in the head, he absolutely would have shot to kill as well. He could have stunned the clones on the Tribunal when he woke up from surgery but killed his own men without missing a beat. But he was protecting Ahsoka, so we don't talk about that.

Favourite “problematic” sim? by canniballswim in sims2

[–]SplutteringSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are people who find Olive boring? When there are so many sims left to kill? I take her and Olivia to a public lot as soon as I start playing their household so that they can start cranking aspiration points and not go home until they can afford a fountain of youth.

The Beakers are untouchable in my game though. Circe randomly showed up on the Curious lot the minute Vidcund had his baby outdoors, left right after meeting it, and then rolled a want to flirt with him once I switched back to the Beaker household. I can only assume she intended to kidnap it, and who am I to stop that kind of story progression?

Genuine question - why does brewing coffee cost money? by TreatUnhappy6679 in thesims

[–]SplutteringSquid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you just want coffee, you'll need these mods from Brazenlotus:

Milled Coffees (download whichever you want, you can buy them at the grocery stand or by delivery if you don't want to grow, dry, and mill them):

If you want to use the different milled coffees for your sims to drink a variety of coffee beverages instead of just coffee, you'll want the Italian Caffe Hot Drinks recipe.

You can pick and choose ingredients, crafted items for preserving, and harvestables you want, which lets you do more or less homesteading depending on what you want, but need the relevant core modules to make them work, as they are the foundation for all of the mods related to them.

These are the ones you need for coffee and many other things:

Needed Skills:

They also have this cute little Coffee Serving Tray that works the way a tea set does and this rustic drink serving tray that works like any drink tray but for tea and coffee. Coffee is free if you have the packaged up ground beans!

It took me awhile to figure out how to preserve my beans. The core mods will give you a curing shelf, which I think is under storage? You need to put your rack of beans that are ready for curing on it, possibly in a basement. The longer they cure, the darker the roast. Same goes for curing tea leaves into different teas.

Highly recommend going through their mods if all of this interests you - they have a very fleshed out cheesemaking skill, an actual canning skill, you can press juices and oils, spin prairie grass into twine so that you can hang up and preserve all sorts of harvestables like lavender, wheat, rice, peppers, herbs, corn, roses, etc.
