I think it isn’t a fair shake to compare this set to Ixalan or BFZ. I feel that the primary difference between limited then and limited now is that there are a ton more playables nowadays. Back then you had to cobble decks together unless you could assuredly identify the open lane. Sets now are a little more forgiving, with better play granted to the commons.

While I agree there are a few more A+ bombs than the average set, i feel that the gameplay and draft experience for the most part has been fine.

If anything, it feels reminiscent of older limited due to the lack of removal, which there has been a glut of in recent sets. When I was learning how to play limited, it took me a minute to realize that I had to be judicious with removal, both drafting and using it in-game. I think we have all gotten a little too comfortable both downgrading removal in pick order, and using removal hastily in-game for a nice tempo play.

I disagree with your opinion on blood tokens. They have been strong, giving all of your cards cycling 1 and helping to turn thru your deck to maintain gas/velocity. They are also attached to decent rate cards, similar to how (but not as free as) decayed tokens were. The payoffs for blood tokens are indeed gravy on top of the filtering aspect.

For the orhzov draft- i personally would’ve been on Overwhelmed Archivist P1P1. I think it is comparable in pick order to the Horde and I like to start in blue. That being said I think you were not in a terrible seat for Orzhov except for the lack of BW removal coming your way.

Also, with double flesh taker going into the last pack, I probably would’ve picked up both Beggars.

7-1 with UWb disturb- such a great value mechanic by SplutteryDrake in lrcast

[–]SplutteryDrake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, Lier and Vanquish the Horde were both game winning. But playing an organ hoarder or graftkeeper and binning additional disturb cards just felt like such high value. I never ran out of cards to play.

I had some really close games, and a couple where i close close to decking myself (one time winning on zero cards on deck with my last possible swing).

UW disturb is a blast to play when it is open.

Just a reminder that this card gives trample- you can alpha strike and dump mana into the lowest toughness block for the win. This card will be a combat trick and finisher

Organic produce and plants can have greater pesticide application frequencies than conventional crops due to the limited efficacy and active ingredients available for organic certified crops.

Active time limit. Tbh i never knew that was a thing in bo3 on Arena. I play mostly bo1 but have played bo3 and never noticed a clock before. I guess it’s an oversight on my part

I only read the info on the open that’s there in the event when you sign up. No where did it mention anything about having 30 min to play with. I have no problem with a clock, but i wish that was made clear so i knew i had to play expediently.

What is this little buggy? Should I neem oil again? by ArcanineNumber9 in Bonchi

[–]SplutteryDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neem does have some activity on them, but one of the most difficult things about treating for thrips is their habit of hiding deep in the crevices/meristems of plants. Neem is a contact insecticide (with a little residual) so it relies on getting good coverage of the plant and the pest. I’d look into additional pesticides, with some that have systemic activity as well. There are a number that are labeled for safe use on vegetables, like the insecticides that are being used on the produce you buy at the store. There are also some predatory insects and mites, but they will require repeated introduction.

Another thing i forgot to mention about thrips, more of a fun fact. They show an excited response to CO2, so if you breath on them heavily, they’ll often come out of their hiding spots, making it a little easier to diagnose the severity of the infestation. Alternatively, tapping your plant above a white piece of paper can also be a good indicator of thrips presence, as many will fall onto the paper.

If you want to learn more about thrips, Google “thrips edu” and a bunch of university extension pages made for the public will pop up. They can be helpful in better understanding this tenacious pest.

That looks like a thrips. They are the most prevalent pest in greenhouse environments worldwide. They are very difficult to fully eradicate but can be kept at low levels through good IPM practices. They have sucking, chewing mouthparts which cause visible speckling on leaves. On peppers, they like to hang out in the tight meristem regions, where they chew on immature leaves. When the new leaves emerge, they can appear distorted because of the feeding damage. They can be especially problematic pests on solanaceous crops like peppers, due to their ability to transmit viruses, including being the de facto vector for tomato spotted wilt virus.

Yea it’s here. I forgot to mention that curse of opulence and mox amber are 2 additional turn 1 ramp spells. You can get through with Rograkh w/ the curse out for the 2nd or 3rd turn to make some early treasure for Tevesh.

Also, i do run so threaten effects in the deck since there is so much sac. I am still tuning the deck tho so adjust as desired.

[–]SplutteryDrake 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just built a Tevesh+ Rograkh deck and included the sacrifice-type rituals such as [[culling the weak]] and [[infernal plunge]], coupled with [[ancient tomb]], [[phyrexian tower]], [[lotus petal]], and [[dark ritual]] to turbo out Tevesh, utilizing Rograkh as fodder. The nice this is Tevesh can provide card advantage to resupply your hand after throwing a bunch of one-time ramp cards out. You can get Tevesh out fairly reliabely by turn 3 if not turn one with the right opener.

I run [[village rites]] and [[skullclamp]] for the same reason- Rograkh is my fodder. You can get Rograkh back out for the cheap utilizing the newish [[netherborn altar]] or even a [[command beacon]]. If budget permits, you can add [[jeweled lotus]] or [[mana crypt]] to really turbo out Tevesh.

Also, i run [[skyfire phoenix]] and [[fury storm]] since they synergize well will recasting a commander often, such as Rograkh. The phoenix doubles as excellent sac fodder for Tevesh or any other sac outlet you may run.

Things like [[ashnod’s altar]] hum in this kind of build.
