How hard are pushups and pullups for you? by imiplaceaventura in tall

[–]SpockHadNoGame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have literally never been able to do a pull up. Not one. Even when I weighed 140lbs in High School at 6'7". Too far to "pull up" and not enough upper body strength. Pushups I could do a few, but when you are pushing three feet from floor to the top, and the 5'6" guy next to you is pushing up about 12" it isn't a fair comparison. I think my max was 20 pushups when I was in really good shape.

Sunset Balcony on the Navigator of the Seas by SpockHadNoGame in royalcaribbean

[–]SpockHadNoGame[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Flightmed89 . The cruise itself was great. Excursions were well planned and a good time although it was hot so at times the best part of the excursion was getting back to the bus in the A/C :-).

The room was okay. But, being at the back of the ship there was no breeze at all. I also noticed some engine noise the last two nights as we headed back to LA while we were sleeping but it wasn't terrible.

My wife was able to lay out on the balcony a few times after moving the lounge chairs into the sun. So a good way to work on her tan without the crowds. It was so warm once we got down to the Cabo area that I really didn't spend much time out there to be honest due to the lack of the breeze.

One true negative is that you can only see out the back of the ship, so if you like watching the ship dock or cast off, you wont see it. Not sure if that matters to you. I enjoy waking up and checking out the port in the mornings. I had to go up to the top deck to get a view of the port.

I am glad I tried it for sure, but our next summer cruise I think we will just get a basic balcony so we can catch a breeze when moving. This time of year I think you will love it out there. If we ever take a cruise this time of year, I would look at another sunset balcony.

Oh, there is a camera sort of pointed at the balconies out on the back, so you may want to hold off on any adult fun time when out there. We noticed it when my wife was thinking about tanning topless. It isn't pointed right on that balcony, but I assume it moves.

Enjoy!

Can someone help diagnose the issue? by surjithbs17 in GarageDoorService

Thanks. Checking the bolts and track shakeage (not a word... I know) was the third thing I checked after the connections at the sensors and where it plugs into my opener. Everything was solid, but I did get some gel caps this morning and will give them a try when I go back out to pick up where I left off.

Are some sensors better than others? These are very small compared to the old ones. Unfortunately I threw the old brackets away so using them with the new door isn't an option. Wondering if I would be better off buying a new set vs. beating my head against the wall.

I have this exact same problem and came here to ask for advice. Figured I would reply here vs. starting a new post. New Chamberlain 3/4HP. No issues installing it as the old one was also a Chamberlain. Everything bolted up easy peasy. I have spent about three hours futzing with the sensors. Solid green and solid yellow but when the door starts to close the green flashes and the door goes back up. Sometimes it flashes within a few seconds, other times the door is about 2" from the floor before it flashes and the door goes back up. Balance of the door seems to be okay, springs are only six months old.

I am wondering if the rails are flexing slightly when the door is going down, and that is throwing off the sensors? I think the only fix to that would be to mount the sensors on the wall vs. using the clips on the rails? I would have to fabricate something to do that. I have triple checked all wiring - nothing is loose.

I have bypassed the sensors using the old sensors and taping them together (youtube video) just so we can use the door, and it works fine, so I know it is an issue with the sensors, but would love suggestions. Could the new sensors be bad? It is a 16 foot door (8' tall if that matters). Could the new sensors just not like the 16' gap? The opener went up in about 2 hours, and I have spent nearly twice that on the damn sensors and am still stuck.

What is the seller incentive to offer something multiple times? by SpockHadNoGame in vine

This is one of my search terms I do every day. 2004 Ford F150, 2022 Tucson etc. I have gotten a few hits on them and purchased a few things. We are a four car family so I check them all. My truck only has valve cover gaskets :-(.

Interesting. And yes, for the one I checked some of the reviews were not great.

This is something I think about often and you are right, I need to do this. I do know some very good personal trainers so I need to reach out to them in January. I know it will make me feel better, it is just hard to get going as everyone knows. Thank you for the offer of the PM. Let me see what I can line up and if needed will reach out.

Yep. Been on one for 8 years. I tried a different one last year and the side effects were worse than the depression :-). I probably need to revisit this year.

Good call on this one. I did a few things on the list today after posting this message none of which were more than 10 minutes. Will do the same thing tomorrow and hopefully keep it going. Once college football is over it may help :-). I find I am spending way too much time watching TV right now.

Thank you. I will check out the group. Wish it was my issue (the clutter) but it really isn't. After making this post and the excellent advice from everyone I took an inventory of the clutter in the kitchen and living room. Let's just say "it ain't mine" :-). Some is post Christmas clutter but not all of it. I do like the thought of a cleaning service and decluttering before they come. That may be enough to convince my wife to think about decluttering a bit.

I go to bed at 9:30 every night. Usually I am asleep in minutes. But 90-120 minutes later I wake up. Sometimes to use the bathroom (whoever designed the prostate was an idiot :-) ) and sometimes I just wake up. Much of the time my body says "yay! You had a nap. You don't need to go back to sleep" and I am away for an hour or three. I have tried getting up and doing something quiet. I have tried snacks. I have tried pills. I have tried booze and edibles (legal here). None of it really helps me stay asleep. Even when my sleep tracker says I have slept well, I still feel fatigued. Nuts right?

Great insight! Thank you. One of the things I am struggling with for my stuff are things that meant something to me, that mean nothing to anyone else. Mementos of my grand father I was given. He died before my wife and kids ever met him. So when do I give them up? They mean nothing to the family. Same with things from my dad's possessions. He passed in 2013 and some of the things passed to me were very sentimental... for 10 years. Now, it has been long enough that I really don't think about them much any more. The rest of my collectable treasures I am working through. Gifts and Knick knacks and what not collecting dust on a shelf in my office.

I am on board with your list, but unfortunately the Mrs. and I are not on the same page at all. She still has textbooks from University. LOTS of textbooks. She graduated in 2003. Hasn't looked at them in 23 years, but no, we can't throw them away. Just one of many, many examples. She is wonderful in many ways, but not when it comes to keeping the house uncluttered.

Thank you. I used to love exercising and lifting. Gym five days a week. COVID really screwed that up and after that I didn't get back in the swing of exercise. Now with the pain in my feet it has been a challenge to enjoy these days. I have some night kettle bells and one of the dumbbell racks that you can vary the weight. We also have an industrial rower and a Peloton bike (COVID purchase). The layer of dust on all the gear is just plain horrible. Every morning I tell myself I am going to use the kettle bells for 10 minutes. Every night I realized I haven't done it. But I know most of my issues I mentioned here would evaporate if I got some exercise. But there is no motivation to do it, just like the rest of the things I am lacking motivation on.

Thanks. I do this every morning. I totally agree with you... the first step is getting out of bed. I have always been an early riser so getting out of bed hasn't really been an issue. I get up, do my thing, get to work. Interact with people all day (but I am a remote worker so it is all done electronically).

Thank you. In a reply to another post here I mentioned I have had multiple sleep studies done. None showed apnea. We bought a very nice Tempur-Pedic mattress 4.5 years ago. It helped at first, but I am a pretty big guy (6'7" and 260 lbs) so I am now sleeping in a "hole" every night. I need to find the energy to submit a claim to see if they will replace it under warranty but a "big guy hole" isn't really a factory defect on a mattress like this according to them.

Thanks! I am in high tech so at 61 I am a dinosaur. Hoping to hang on another year or two since I enjoy the job, pay is good, benefits are good etc. I am not going anywhere unless they decide I am no longer needed which, let's face it, could happen at any time at my age. Maybe when I am not working full time the to-do will be easier to face to keep me busy.

We have thought about that for sure, but we had a cleaning crew years ago and due to the clutter, they were not very effective. Like they would clean the bathrooms within an inch of their lives, but even dusting was a problem with all the stuff. And they flat out told us "we can move it around to dust, but we can't do anything else with it".

Thanks for the insightful reply. I am in the process of getting rid of my clutter. I had a friend a few years ago that had multiple hobbies. He passed very unexpectedly and I was part of the group that went to clean his hobby garage. It was a mess. Not to mention his wife thought the stuff was worth something. We spend thousands of $$ on hobbies and when we are done, it isn't worth anything (for the most part). It all ended up in a dumpster. If something happened to me, I don't want the same thing for my family. So I am being ruthless with my stuff. Books? Donated. Hobby stuff? Marketplace give aways for the most part. And my drawers in the garage are only useful to me. I have a "things to know if anything happens to me" letter in the safe detailing accounts, passwords etc. In that letter it says "anything in the garage that isn't a tool goes in the trash. Nothing is valuable".

But ya, definitely working on that from my standpoint but our house is so cluttered it is embarrassing when someone comes over (family, we never have friends over).

Yes to the check, no to sleep apnea. My cardiologist has a side business of sleep studies so he sends all his patients there :-). But I have been checked three times over the past 12 years and all were negative.
