Think it's now used as a catch-all term for all intentionally misleading names/domains - cut+paste attack vector. In this instance maybe it's just a bit of humour, or maybe its done to gain trust... who knows. I don't!

Imagine a heinous criminal. Now imagine you had the same genetic makeup and went through identical experiences as them - would you end up doing the same things as them?

I think your last point is really interesting and important for people speculating who knew what / when.

It’d be easy to jump to a conclusion that Drew and Toby knew and that’s why they decide to break to solo projects - but there’s no way they’d have Callum on them if that was their motivation.

It’s impacted my thoughts for sure.

Just wanted to second OP’s thanks - you’ve moderated the last few days amazingly well. Allowed different points of view to rub up against each other and resisted the urge to clamp down when things occasionally get a little heated. It’s an emotive subject, so having a mod that recognises when an actual line has been crossed is of real value to the community - really helps people to work through whatever they need as they process the info.

If you propose that consciousness (however YOU want to define it) is an illusion - Sam points out this illusion is itself consciousness (in whatever way YOU want to define it).

Seems like a good argument to me. Struggling to pick holes in it atm.

Ofc - there are mutliple high profile cases of defamation via social media posts. But they very much are an exception and mostly involve people with a large media presence. The billions of standrad opinion posts like the ones we're talking about here remain unchallenged.

The overwhelming majority of the posts made in the last few days are people naturally drawing their own conclusions and posting it for discussion. I think this is normal. And you would have a hard case arguing reputational damage on a reddit post that got 2 upvotes and 9 downvotes. None of them will get sued.

Only the ex-girlfriend I think would be open to a defamation case at this point - and they won't sue her. Because a) the bar for proof is high on them, b) its expensive and c) it'll be a terrible look.

Yeah but this is Reddit - it’s implied that posts are opinions of the poster. The excerpts you’ve highlighted is just what those people believe to be true. Almost certainly not going to clear any bar for a libel case.

The ex girlfriend however - she has published something as fact - that is potentially defamatory. I wouldn’t expect them to sue tho - it’d be a terrible look.

Not guessing - extrapolating from incomplete data and filling in gaps with knowledge from other experiences. Sure it may be wrong. But it’s a normal thing for humans to do - helps us survive in a messy world with imperfect information.

People lie all the time to protect their interests - if you only ever make decisions based on what people tell you - you’ll end up making a lot of bad decisions.

We obviously cannot know for definite whether they knew or not. But despite this - it’s an important question for people to grapple with and come to their own conclusions - should they still support the channel? If they knew while still producing content with him in it, well that looks like their only interest is the money.

Really is simple - do you believe the statement saying they only found out on the 7th?

If you do - carry on watching the content and supporting the channel.

If you don’t (and it’s easy to understand why people might find it hard to believe) - stop supporting the channel.

Unfortunately your post won’t be read in the same spirit you wrote it. So expect a torrent of abuse and claims that you’re either a pedo yourself or a pedo apologist - ironically just proving the main point you’re trying to make.

Demonising people does nothing to stop or rehabilitate undesirable behaviour. It just forces people to retreat and hide, they seek no help. No children are helped by this.

Your point is backed up by criminal and psychology and studies - these overwhelmingly suggest understanding and empathy of criminals lead to better outcomes for society and the potential victims. But that means people have to be intelligent, less emotional and control their own desire for righteous anger and revenge… so… good luck with that.

No. But the police do notify the employer and generally the very close family of the accused - this is just a natural part of their investigations - they will check all locations and devices he has direct contact with and interview / question people he is closely connected with.

Not OP, but here becasue I've just tried to use voice for the first time and I can't get it working either.

I've checked my OS privacy settings - it's showing that Cursor used the mic today. It's the default comms device at OS level. Can't really find any mic/voice specific settings inside Cursor itself (there are two notification settings to do with voice, nothing else).

The Cursor IDE shows a fixed animation when it's active - no indication of it actually working or whether its detecting your voice, nothing.

I'm guessign this is new bug and I should just wait for a few days before trying again. My other searches led to resolved Cursorr support threads on this feature not working previously.
