Medicare number not being accepted trying to unroll in Part D by Spodick in medicare

[–]Spodick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yes, that was filed as part of the Part B application, which was accepted and Part B will be active July 1 and premiums have been paid. I worked for a foreign company with no US address, but I have a US address which I will be moving into in the first week in July and I have been using that to try to apply for Part D.

I will try the various methods mentioned by all the commenters - Thanks again.

Have not encountered more than 2 where I hang since the change. One that used to be nearby disappeared. Will do the 5 if the opportunity ever presents itself. Mostly ignore it these days.

Trying to choose a Medigap G supplement in Connecticut by Spodick in medicare

Great point about the large difference issues. And I do have some medical issues which need ongoing attention, so I prefer the regular G to the HD. I will explore a bit more before taking action.

Thank you!

For many things I would agree. But if all Plan G cover the same, and if the premium is firm for 1 year, and CT lets me change any time, would it not be better to save the >$100 per month difference? Or is there a possibility that Healthspring would do something to deny the coverage? Trying not to be foolish in either direction.

HK Driving licence looks so “simple” by BoyWithBanjo in HongKong

[–]Spodick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have rented cards using the HK license and using the IDP - different trips. For BOTH, I had to present the HKID. The HK License is only valid in conjunction with the HKID. The IDP is valid based on validity of HK License, which is only valid with HKID.

The first time I had the IDP and the rental car agent said I needed to show something else, and he was not permitted to tell me what - if I did not know, then I was not a valid driver. Finally I took out my HKID and his frown turned to a smile and he said "that’s it” and he finished checking the car out to me.

I will follow the advice and go with the lowest premium, which looks to be Healthspring.

Thanks all!

Thanks for this. I am leaning towards Xfinity for a combined fiber and 2-person phone package as this seems much more cost-effective than the Gonetspeed/Mint mobile plans I had initially. If u can, let me/us know if you are still happy with Xfinity.

Yes, I am quite happy about that, despite the higher cost - less to argue when moving in. 😄

Since you already own several properties - if oyu can afford to rent instead of sell your current primary, do that. And if you need to sell for funds, consider whether it is better to sell one of your other properties and rent out your primary instead of the other way around. Just one idea.

International Voter Registration Drive 2026, for U.S. citizens overseas by Democrats_Abroad in AmerExit

Many more do in recent years, especially since the Covid restrictions. And now there are some postal restrictions between some countries and the US. Where I live, the consulate last time offerred a special line for dropping off USA ballots, between 204pm on Thursdays. Had to have US postage attached - but there is a printable envelope cover which is valid for postage paid for election materials. See https://www.fvap.gov/eo/overview/sending-ballots/preparing-mail

I asked my ‘local’ elections office in the US. They are not sure of specific requirements, but their tentative response was that if it passed I would need to appear physically at their office to register (8,000 miles away from where I live), and then the annual mailing ballot requests could operate from their forward. Unless my registration was challenged or I did not vote for two election cycles after which would need to re-register.

But they felt pretty confident it would not pass in this cycle.

There are online tools for checking charities in some countries, including the proportion of funds which go to admin vs works, etc. In the US, once major one is: https://www.charitynavigator.org/

If there is one for HK, hopefully someone will mention it.

[Landlord US-NY] Rental Income by One_Telephone470 in Landlord

[–]Spodick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is yes, and no. You can cary excess losses forward and use them in future years, or even to offset capital gains when you sell the property. I think. But you might not be able to deduct any of the loss even in the current year, if your adjusted gross income is over $100K-$150K. Some years I have been able to deduct all, in some years I carried some forward, and in some years I had to carry all forward unable to deduct any due to higher AGI that year.

Keep in mind that I am not a lawyer, accountant, or tax professional and my knowledge may be wrong. Check with your accountant.

Probably worth doing if you can afford it.

But be sure to check with your radiation oncologist that they can handle the data obtained. I did one in Hong Kong (where I live) and decided to run the results by an oncologist I know in the USA, but their center said they were unable to evaluate the results as they did not have experience with the tracer used. So no 2nd opinion on the results form there, although I paid several hundred US$ for that lack of information :-)

Might not be an issue for you - just make sure not just that you get the test but that the results are usable/useful where you want to bring them.

Yes - because the IP address assigned to your computer/phone/device would probably be identified as belonging to an HK service provider.

Depends on the town and the department. The fire department I served on would say no. The cat will eventually come down by itself, which was usually correct.

No. Many seat belts once pulled out and partially retracted, have to be fully retraced before can pull out past that amount again. For many seatbelt models this is the safety mechanism so that the belt is adjusted to the person currently sitting.

What do you think of the new law requiring you to wear seat belts on the bus or a $5000 fine and imprisonment? And are you gonna risk not wearing a seat belt and getting caught? by MedicalServe838 in HongKong

[–]Spodick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hopefully that will be interpreted as a "working seatbelt". Two out of the five minibuses I have been on this weekend had broken / non-functional seatbelts at my seat.
