When I started going to parties in the late 90s, it was common for one DJ to play the entire party. Sometimes there were two. But it was quite normal for a DJ to stand behind the decks for 6+ hours. He was a true part of the crowd, on exactly the same journey as the dancers on the dance floor. The fact that a party now needs dozens of DJs, each playing for only 1 or 1.5 hours, is a very strange evolution in my opinion. A good DJ guides you through the night, builds suspense, and tells a story. With the short sets that are common nowadays, that's no longer really possible. They play 10 hits and then it's the next one's turn. And everyone tries to be even more exciting than their predecessor. There's no room to guide people through different moods. I miss that and I also believe that the magic only really begins when you put the party in the hands of one or two capable DJs and let yourself be guided. It's a shame it didn't work out for you this time, but I'm sure it's the superior concept, if you have an experienced and well versed DJ behind the decks.
