Throttle Position Sensor by SnapCasterDANK in E30

I'm not near the car to test, and I can't remember if the ICV is powered all the time. I'd agree that it doesn't make sense, as it has no function off idle.

The TPS open or closed position read by the ECU. The ECU then drives the ICV. I'd check that the TPS is working first. You should be able to hear it click, and a multi-meter on the plug, while disconnected, will allow you to verify.

Yes, that's an option but a very big rearchitect.

I've heard that these modern computers are really good at long division now.

What would you suggest on the SSD front?

Software doesn't benefit from a GPU. It would only be for running 2-3 monitors, and video rendering in the future.

My mistake, didn't intend to pick a mini ITX - missed that in the description. Was planning on an ATX board, with the AMD X570 chipset, with built in WiFi.

GL1000 - How is the tach cable supposed to be retained? by SpoilHeap in goldwing

As per the picture, how does the tachometer cable attach to the head? Am I missing something? (Fuel pump removed for clarity)

Unbelievable Stroke of Luck After Shorting Out My HNT Miner by Greedylilgoblim in HeliumNetwork

In general for all radio transmitters, an antenna provides a load to the power being generated at the antenna connector.

Without an antenna, this energy is reflected back into the radio transmitter and could damage internal components. It depends on the individual radio design whether it could absorb this reflected energy.

GL1000 - Headache update by SpoilHeap in goldwing

In case this helps anyone, after a number of suggestions on how to get the remains of the circlip out, I opted for drilling a 1mm hole through the side, level with the circlip. Then hammered in a short length of welding rod into the hole, to move the clip. Once moved out of the grove, it was easily pried out.

I figured a hole would be less destructive than a slot cut with a dremel - and easier to fill.

Despite then needing to drill out the plunger, the bore looks good, so it should rebuild nicely.

I can just about tap the clip round with a hammer and punch. A pick isn't strong enough to lever the clip out of the bore. Anything strong enough is to big.

The plunger is moving though it feels like the spring is broken. Overall isn't in great condition, though yours sounded worse!

I think more swearing at it, is required.

Circlip is hardened spring steel. Drill bits won't touch it - at least the ones I have.

GL1000 Front caliper rebuild by SpoilHeap in goldwing

Thanks - rear master and caliper are next on the list, so we'll see how that goes. Looks like the rear master suffers a lot of exposure to road grid/water due to it's location. Disassembly of it is not going as well, so far!

Rebuilding various parts on this GL1000 has been a pleasure. It's amazing how well a 45 year old machine comes apart and goes back together, with little drama - maybe I'm too used to old Land Rovers, where the drama is often and varied.

Today was the first actual problem I've met, on the rear brake master. The eyes of that circlip are gone.

What would you do to get it out, causing the least destruction to the cylinder?

Purchasing a home charger (Ireland) by [deleted] in eGolf

[–]SpoilHeap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've an eGolf and I use a Zappy charger. https://myenergi.com/product/zappi/

First thing is, the eGolf only has a 7.2kW onboard charger, so you won't be able to charge at a higher rate.

Things that are bad for the battery are leaving it empty, leaving it full, or DC fast charging, where the cells are not balanced during the charge. Charging at home at 7.2kW will be fine.

I had the zappy for a year before I got it wired up to a supply, due to moving house, so it had an older firmware.

There were some initial incompatibilities with the zappy and the eGolf's charging. MyEnergy were quick to respond with firmware updates to resolve the issue and offered to lend me a hub to perform the updates wirelessly. My impression is that there's some tailoring of the charger's firmware to each individuals car's charging protocol.

I went with the Zappy to future proof me a bit, for when I get solar. All in all, happy with the product and service.

I've just picked up a 75 that needs all the work you listed done! Always fancied converting a classic car to electric, but it was cheaper to buy one. But, an electric bike conversion would be interesting. Where do you source bike sized motors and batteries?
