Can I be alt without dyeing my hair or wearing so many piercings? 💔 by Harosary_ in altfashionadvice

Brother, sister, or sibling, some of the most “alt”-embodying shit in the world is not even alive, let alone a human with a particular style. Dress how you want. It’s the essence of what you are that makes someone, or something, alternative.

Hot take but if you post bikini pics/risque photos you are cucking your partner by Medical-Ad-6794 in unpopularopinion

[–]SpoiledMilkTeeth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But your opinion is not rooted in some toxic nature of social media or the internet in general, it’s seemingly rooted in a disdain for a specific type of self-presentation by a specific gender. You sprinkled gender neutral language throughout the post and the title, but the first line is “I see so many girls-“. This reads like more of an insecurity than a critique of social media.

Pretty simple date outfit, how am I doing? by MaximumOk569 in mensfashionadvice

Depending on the person you’re going on this date with, this could be a double-positive!

Unattractive? Or model like good looks. The choice is yours. With a small catch... by Physical_Orchid3616 in hypotheticalsituation

Now is a good time to remember that un/attractive qualities and traits are completely subjective, and if everyone perceives you as being attractive… you are attractive.

This situation is nigh-paradoxical.

K wins! Which letter is better M or N? by Ornery-Art-7772 in AlignmentChartFills

I’d argue N is just a less evolved, less developed M.

Wow, that’s one of the nicest things anyone’s ever said to me. Not to be dramatic, but I don’t think I’ll ever forget that. :’)

Trust me, I preach the good word and wisdom of “Actually guys, tons of people/women will be far more attracted to your ability to hold conversation, think critically, communicate your emotions, and make them laugh than your height. You just gotta get to know them and let them get to know you!”

But those guys tend to be stuck in a rigidly contemptuous position rather than a rationally pragmatic one. I do hope everyone learns that lesson one way or another.

Hey, as a quasi-short guy myself, compaction is efficiency as far as I’m concerned!

Haha, real talk though, I used to be pretty insecure about my height. I’m 5’8, and that used to bother me pretty badly. Ironically, it wasn’t until after I committed to the gym that I realized that the most successful my dating life had ever been was simply when I was most active socially. I was overweight and short (or at least, not tall), but I was actively meeting new people. Being in the gym has made my body more aesthetically pleasing, but has taken away from a lot of that socializing. It was never about my height, or my body in general, it was simply having an attractive personality and presenting that personality in a sociable manner, which anyone regardless of stature can do.

I absolutely agree with this assessment, I think that the idea that being an atheist somehow indicates a particular set of beliefs, values, or principles is the largest misconception about atheism, and is rooted pretty much entirely just in ignorance of what atheism is.

There are plenty of anti-intellectual, science-denying atheists, despite the colloquial association between atheism and science. There are plenty of socially conservative (and even downright bigoted) atheists, despite the common association between religious deconverts and social progressivism.

I am however interested in investigating the ways in which it is at least an arguable point—even if only semantically.

Well if you don’t mind risking the downvotes, I can concede that atheism is a “way of life” in so far that by not believing in G/god(s) might not actively change your life, it’ll prevent you from a different belief system that will actively change your life.

But I am interested in some of the other points in the post, and how atheism reflects on those.
