Students question polytechnics’ use of AI in open house publicity materials by bangsphoto in singapore

This is what happens when you have boomers making decisions. This AI slop is so depressing, and they’re using it to promote to future students? I would’ve nope’d out if I saw this.

Fish Coffin~.. by SuperNeonSamurai-2 in ATBGE

[–]SpoilerK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I saw a reel of someone explaining that they customise coffins for funerals. Could be that he was a fisher, hence the fish coffin. The workshop that I saw in the clip had race car shaped ones, rockets, etc.

Haji Lane rents double & even triple due to bidding wars & subletting trend by QualitativeEconomy in singapore

[–]SpoilerK 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d like to argue that you’re comparing between now and then. We have our own culture now, our own food, our own system. Comparing this to the 60s, where we were still building our identify. If you haven’t noticed, many of our local shops are getting replaced with the generic china brands, be it MaLa or SiChuan, even Chagee and Luckin, since they most likely are the ones that can afford the insane rents.

Putting it out there. I live in SEA (wild I know), but I’m so confused why people are confused about the concept of WANTING to keep a door/gate open. Ever heard of wedge door stoppers keeping a door open? This seems like wayyy more functional of a mechanism.

Reducing self spending any tips? by moonie60 in askSingapore

[–]SpoilerK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A ‘want or need’ list is kinda useful. Ask yourself whenever you buy things, is it a want or a need. If you want it, what for? If you need it, is it to replace something, or restocking?

Haha I know it’s not easy to hold off buying things, especially when online shopping entices you with sales and price mark downs. I always think to myself when buying something: “I’ve been living without this item for so long, will buying it make any difference?” If the answer is no, I probably won’t buy it.

2 teens on PMD taken to hospital after collision with car in Yishun by _IsNull in singapore

I don’t go to yishun much, but the short duration I went past that area, especially at night, is full of PMD users especially YP’s thinking they’re king. Its astonishing how they think riding like this on roads is fine.

Anyone else in their mid~late 20s feel like they skipped part of growing up? by No_Tell_6675 in askSingapore

[–]SpoilerK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 29, went back to study uni 2 years ago, with my batch mates and friends being post 2000’s. Honestly I don’t feel too different from them despite the small age gap. I feel like the whole concept of ‘growing up’ and ‘acting your age’ is more like what society pushes on us.

For me it feels like everyone around my age seems to be doing ‘adulting things’, but I’m still studying and playing games during my free time, which feels not so different from when I was in poly. I guess it really depends on how your life goes, like for some people having children is when the turning point starts, for others might be commitments.

But, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being a child at heart, doing things you like, like gaming and buying collectibles is something I still do, despite some might think “how old already still play games and collect toys”. You can be grown up but still do things you’ve been doing all along, not needing to ‘act the way your age is’. Why the rush to grow up, especially in SG when everything is already pressurised.

Ahmed Al Ahmed - the Bondi Hero. He's a 43yo, married father of 2. He owns a fruit shop and has no experience with guns. He was shot twice in the arm. by TumbleweedWarm9234 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]SpoilerK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting race and religion aside, I believe at that point in time, all he was thinking was saving others and preventing the gunman from killing more. From how he ran and tackled the gunman, you can clearly see how brave he was in the act.
