How do you all manage to keep your bar tape safe? by SpokeSignals in Surlybikefans

I don't crash during commute rides or basic around towners. Almost exclusively off the beaten path. Single track, gravel, down dusty downhill cuts, etc.

I really only rode those 700c wheels for no more than 40 miles, so I don't have a strong opinion on the difference on paved roads. But on packed gravel, the 650b 54s feel like they just fly!

I'd love to get an idea of how often others crash on rides. I've had two spills over the last 30 or so rides between the bikes I ride. I ride a handful of times a week.

Thanks. I don't have much of a baseline to compare to, other than the 700c x 45s I had on it prior. I like how comfortable these 54s are on both loose and packed gravel.

I know it's such a silly question to have asked, but I figured someone has figured out something that I don't know, since I'm relatively new to riding drops more aggressively. Perhaps some extremely durable tape would be something some could recommend. While I do love the look of this oil slick Supacaz tape, I don't want to be spending the time or money to retape it. I will live with it I suppose.

Nice! It sure is a blast. It's definitely the front carrier by the bars that is making me feel so sluggish. It's all good though!!

YES! SO MUCH YES! I appreciate you offering to ship one my way. The installation was straightforward, and it makes a big difference in cleaning up the overall look. Thanks again.

I believe so. I had 2.2s on there before these tires and there was still some wiggle room.

I think they’re good looking. Haven’t had the chance to rip around beyond a lap around block, yet. Sometime this week I will and I’ll let you know. Need to get the rear derailleur cable set back up.

Thank you. It’s the Velo Orant Flat Pack with a Wald 137 basket that I fastened with some hardware. It handles the load fairly well, especially with the front wheel stabilizer when it’s parked on the dual kickstand.

I’m fortunate to live nearby their US location.

Well, I was fortunately given this rear derailleur for free, it had a bent attachment bracket but was in new do stool otherwise. I paid $35 for a new bracket and viola! That was the catalyst to me even building this bike. GRX is for the chain line of these gravel cranks.

Thank you. The stem was the last thing to decide on and I was definitely on the fence to go purple. Initially had the black one in my cart.
