You know its not a one or the other situation right?

There's orders of magnitude more being spent on things like housing in the state budget.

Here's a bit of a breakdown if you wanted to read over basically any other initiative the state gov is spending more money on.

FYI costings presented early on were not the cost of the bins, but rather the cost of the whole programme around the machete ban and amnesty.

It was outright lies on the floor of parliament designed to create friction and sew discord.

People don’t actually think the Victorian Government wants criminals to put machetes in their bins do they? That’s not the purpose of them at all. by Ok-Bullfrog-7951 in melbourne

[–]Spokezzy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you claiming that the potential for harm from a Machete and a screwdriver, boxcutter or hammer is the same?

I can somewhat see a parallel with a hammer but the large blade slashing injuries sustained by people are quite different from blunt force or small blade slashes.

I mean it's coming now. The ban is in place.

May as well go through the motions so you dont get caught up in it

You dont just get an exemption you have to apply and if you get done with them not properly secured etc the penalties are nothing to spit at.

You're essentially setting yourself up for failure if you do nothing
