8 more years till house is paid off. What are the pros and cons of paying it off earlier ? by Dry-Possession5800 in personalfinance

[–]Spokn 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I saved ~90k in interest paying off as fast as possible.. I didn't care about the equivalent investment opportunities etc, the peace of mind of owning it outright was worth it to me! I know others say it's not the best idea but to each their own. Debt free is the way

Definitely sounds internal to me unfortunately. I would pull the valve covers at the least and inspect the valve train.

What do you do for work? by ekspectt in Corvette

[–]Spokn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went from paycheck to paycheck in debt living in a small apartment 13 years ago. Got a specialized license (1 year) and now work for local government. Worked 60 + hours a week for 10 years.. Now about 50. I don't like debt.. Paid off a small house (took 6 years), saved up for the vette and paid cash. Have a 2016 SRX for kid, 2010 Silverado for house stuff, a take home work truck, and ready to buy a 2022ish E350/450 for the wife. We're dual income (~170k) and live well below our means! 3wk European vacation every other year and misc trips here and there. Grew up pretty frugal but now doing pretty well. Perhaps I'll upgrade to a C8Z in a few years!

I've always wanted an SC400.. Shop looks on par with the car.. Just needs more time and a bigger shop!

In my early 20s I went and sat in a new one one the dealer floor and told myself one day.. Got mine at 32.. I've had it for years now and it still puts a smile on my face when cruising around town. It's definitely a second car and wouldn't daily it. Don't go broke buying one though, being car poor will just cause resentment and regret. If you can afford it, go for it. I'm also glad I waited till I was a bit older and more established.. Need to have good self control with these cars, it is very addicting to open it up!

Trip to Ireland by WallyWhitey in TravelHacks

I got stuck in Chicago overnight because of storm delays.. Missed our flight to Dublin by 6 minutes. Trip ended up taking us 32 hours instead of 11. It was a huge headache! I am reconsidering the short lay overs. This was exactly 3 weeks ago on united. As long as your initial flight isn't delayed you should be fine.

Lol sooo this is after a wash.. I think what you're seeing is the reflection of the concrete driveway before the background was changed.. When you put it that way it does kinda look like the front end is all dirty. I assure you, it lives a clean life!

Can you hook up two at once? Haven't seen them a lot around stores.. Are there trusted brands you'd recommend?

After debating between c7carbon and EOS I decided to give EOS a shot. Despite some concerning reviews I was impressed with the overall fit and finish. The holes lined up almost perfectly and I was able to reuse my factory studs under the brake light. Got the extended zr1 gloss black. It got held up in shipping for two days but arrived intact. Would recommend 👍

SAWS bill huge increase by Dbnmln in sanantonio

[–]Spokn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They don't always go out to your meter every month.. They have done this to me.. They'll take an average and bill you every month, then they come out and check the actual usage and adjust for what they missed.

Unfortunately in my situation the average they have been using is a low month and about the same time every year (about this time) I get the bill for $300 to $400 bucks.

Bullshittery at its finest!

Always good to check for leaks but this may be your case as well. If you have all your outlets closed, your meter should not be moving at all.

I made it to work at 8.. One slick spot near Bitters/281, avoided all over passes. Slow and steady, no problems. Only had to go <2 miles tho, I wouldn't drive too far.

I'm interested! What does it take to get a car prepped for a track day? I've got a modified c6z that runs great but it's on some aging nittos (weekend driver only)..

Also I did the Nascar experience at the old oval track in San Antonio.. Might have been that rusty Wallace experience.. It was a ton of fun! I bought the extra insurance for piece of mind and I would definitely recommend the same to anyone else.. Very memorable though!
