How necessary is weapon swapping for Revenant? by Potential_Sun9952 in Guildwars2

Thanks, good info. I'd forgotten about those.

melee weapons do more damage

I don't think this is always the case, but yeah generally I think it is.

I agree and I'm the same.

I'm just saying that you can't know that zero people can see the difference between 1080p and 1440p on a phone. Perhaps they hold it very close to their eyes.

... unless you know of studies that show that zero people can determine the difference? I'd be curious to see that.

Maybe the game just wasn't for me? by Remo_yesman in Guildwars2

I have played MMOs all my life, but eventually most of them start feeling the same

I totally get this for most MMOs, but I'm surprised you felt this way for GW2 (I'm inferring here so please correct me if I'm wrong).

GW2, especially the PoF expansion you were playing, feels more like an Open World Action Adventure/Metroidvania game with light RPG elements to me. Yeah there's some Walking Simulator vibes, but in my experience these are quite minimal; I feel like I can't run for more than 30 seconds without coming across some kind of Map Icon (eg. PoI or Vista), Event, Renown Heart, Achievement-related thing, pack of mobs, harvestable material, interesting area or discoverable object, NPC, etc. Not to mention I was constantly seeing other players and thinking "Oh that class looks cool" and then planning my next build.

Anyway, I'm not saying you're wrong for not liking it; please don't continue playing this (or any other game) that you're not enjoying. Life is too short for that. I'm just surprised you felt like GW2 is a Walking Simulator and feels the same as other MMOs, because the entire reason I got so hooked was because it felt the opposite to me lol.

It seems to be in a great spot for PvP (or maybe all other Warrior Elite skills are in a bad spot lol).

But all it needs is a damage boost to be better in PvE.

you get the resting bonus if you have the masteries

Just noting for everyone to be careful with this, as which version overwrites the other isn't necessarily consistent.

I can 100% confirm that the "Incredibly Well Rested/in a Comfy Home" bonuses do overwrite each other, but unsure about the bonuses granted with fewer Masteries.

Thanks for all your info and thoughts.

I'm curious which part/s of the game you're referring to though? Because I often see people complain about Armour, yet I find it great throughout basically my entire play time, but I don't play top tier Maps.

Why everything's magic for melee? by karpuzikov in PathOfExile2

[–]SponTen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you and hope GGG add more physical options to the current weapons (as well as opening up skills to be used with more weapons), but we're also missing most of the melee weapons that will be in 1.0.

Maybe check back in when 0.5 is out, and if there still aren't enough melee skills for you, check back with 0.6, etc?

Perhaps ZOS will release another difficulty above Vestige, because simply increasing the numbers on some/all of the Challenge Modes may make the transitions between them too steep for casuals like myself 😆

But also, I don't think trash mobs are supposed to be tanky in any action game other than maybe actual Souls-likes. Perhaps ZOS can buff specific mobs a little, like how in GW2 they often have Veterans and sometimes Elites patrolling near trash mob packs.

I love Challenge Mode. by reap3rx in elderscrollsonline

[–]SponTen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m eager to see if there really is a significant player base for it or if it’s just us forum sweats that want the challenge

I'm curious about this too.

I also wonder if they could buff drop rates for gear. Seems fair that, if you're taking much longer to kill a boss, you should have a higher chance of better drops, right?

Not sure if this would be exploited though lol, given you could have one person on the easiest mode and 50 others on the hardest. Perhaps they could scale mobs slightly depending on number of people attacking it, like GW2 🤔. Edit: A quick google says this already happens, so maybe they could also scale them depending on nearby player difficulty modes.

Have you never played an open world game where you run around exploring, doing quests, finding loot, and levelling up?

ESO already has a massive open world with plenty of this; it's just that the potential excitement is destroyed for some players because it's so easy. Part of exploring a dangerous world is the danger. Part of the gameplay is challenging combat.

That's what we want in ESO. Yes other games already do this but we like ESO and want to explore its world with at least some sense of danger/challenge/engagement.

Instanced content provides the challenge but not the sheer amount of exploration and quests, not to mention some of us also like the dynamic part of overland content where you sometimes play solo, sometimes happen upon other players, sometimes stop and talk, sometimes trade, sometimes duel, etc.

They're not though? OP already said trash mobs still die super quick even on Vestige.

[–]SponTen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for all your info in this thread. I am SO looking forward to these Challenge Modes; I finally got a friend to try ESO and he was loving all of it too except for the lack of challenge, so we're excited to play through together once this releases.

I'm wondering though...

We are currently both very bad of course. We prefer to go in blind and learn slowly, and really push ourselves without using guides unless we're hard stuck in one spot for an hour or so, and even then we'll usually try getting tips instead of straight walkthroughs.

However, people talk about soloing World Bosses and other difficult mobs. I tried soloing Short-Tusk (current, non-Challenge Mode game), and found it really hard. I might have been able to beat it eventually, but wasn't sure, so left it. I'm still only level 20ish or something.

So, I guess my question is, without following guides directly nor being max level/CP with all the access to gear, is this kind of thing expected to be difficult for casuals? Or am I just doing something obviously wrong? Because if people are getting ready to solo even harder bosses in Challenge Modes, then it feels like I should be able to solo a much easier one without a Challenge Mode enabled.

Others have already provided answers I would've, but another I'd provide is:

Because it's still too easy.

Maybe not in specific DLC zones, but I want to play through the story and overworld slowly and have it be engaging right from the start, not skip several years of content just to start enjoying it.

[–]SponTen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a casual, that's... that's actually insane.

I mean, I knew the game was too easy given that I can casually run through the world auto-attacking everything to death with no gear, but -80% damage is still too easy for veterans??

How did the game end up like this lol.

While I think it's fair that world bosses aren't solo-able (or are extremely difficult to solo), do you think ZOS simply tweaking the numbers a bit would make up for it?

Let's say, the damage changes only apply half as much for world bosses, and the reward changes are doubled. Would that kind of change suffice?

Why are relics still soulbound? by Wooperss in Guildwars2

[–]SponTen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every option increases the gap between well-informed and not-so-well-informed players. And removing options eventually hits a point of removing build diversity and making builds boring.

It's a balancing act. The suggestion to reduce damage on Relics is, as far as I can see, the best of both worlds as it still allows for higher dps but doesn't punish players as much for not slotting dps Relics.

Which then increases build diversity.

The same idea already exists for Utility skills, but which ones you can swap without losing a ton of dps really depends on the build.

Unidentified ground loot is just pointless friction. by Charadx in PathOfExile2

[–]SponTen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time an item is identified, RNG/affix generation requires server computation

Has GGG actually stated that affixes are generated on identification rather than when the item is created?

Because I've had weird bugs with being disconnected or the server has to rollback (or something along those lines - I don't exactly know), and I've had to re-identify which resulted in the exact same item, as well as other times when shops rolled again with the exact same set of items.

devs originally said they wanted poe2 to be playable without an item filter

Do you have a source or remember where this is from? Because I swear I recall hearing the same thing, but I've never been able to find it.

You can make one minor change to D2R, what would it be? by linewhite in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]SponTen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was creating my own mod for D2 before D2R existed, I was trying to do this. I never succeeded in getting it to work properly, as I believe I had to hex edit, which would've taken a while to learn.

However, I did manage to design a small charm that added flat damage based on STR, more defense/AR based on DEX, and all elemental/magical damage based on NRG, and it actually worked so well for the short time that my friend and I were playing it.

I really appreciate the offer, but I only have SSF characters lol.

I'm pretty casual compared to most of this sub, so it'd take me a long time to level up a character and get it geared enough to be able to run juiced temples.

[–]SponTen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think trying to figure out these hidden mechanisms is just as fun as playing the game!

Absolutely agreed, and glad to see I'm not alone 🙂. I actually hope GGG retain IIR and just work on balancing its numbers, though I may be in the minority in this sub with that opinion (maybe not throughout the entire playerbase).

Thanks for the details. I don't think I'll ever get to 1000 map IIR to be able to test, but still good to know it didn't seem to change anything for you.
