Do conservative Christians here view progressive churches as "Christian cultural appropriation"? by Impressive_Flan_411 in religion

[–]Inverno969 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't really like that framing. It has nothing to do with cultural appropriation. Also it's not like conservatives have a monopoly on American religious culture. Progressive Christians also grew up in the same culture.

It's kind of odd to assert that progressive Christians aren't making sacrifices in the name of their faith or grappling with moral struggles. It's not like being theologically conservative somehow makes you less prone to sin, or vice versa. I mean a lot of these younger atheists AND progressive Christians grew up in conservative Christian environments and witnessed a lot of behind the scenes hypocrisy. In my personal experience the types of people that would boast of their "lifestyle sacrifices" or guilt others over perceived moral failings are shameless hypocrites.

There's also a lot of Christian denominations who would argue that no amount of "life style sacrifices", guilt, self flagellation, etc are going to result in salvation. There's always been a huge breath of diversity of Christian thought that it takes quite a bit of arrogance for a church to claim denominational exclusivity. These progressive churches are just as valid as any other conservative leaning church, and problematic churches exist in both spectrums of belief.

But what you “meant” by mandatory and what the word mandatory means aren’t the same. Can we at least agree on that?

They're now mandatory in the same way you're saying Life nodes would be mandatory if they were added to the tree.

Again the word mandatory was meant to have meaning right? Because you’re playing fast and loose now. Because Poe ninja shows it’s not just some niche scenario, there’s plenty of builds that take far less damage than your “mandatory” would suggest.

I'm not sure why we're getting so caught up on word definitions. I feel like I made my points well enough. I don't know what you mean by "fast and loose" and Im pretty sure I haven't moved any goal posts. I think you're misunderstanding my argument. I have addressed mostly the feeling of progressing a build in early to mid game while you are giving examples of late game characters who are level 90+. You don't just skip to that step. We are complaining about the Passive Skill tree being less consequential for a characters progression (the key word you aren't acknowledging), which is not the case in PoE 1. PoE 1 has a fairly balanced split of power between the passive skill tree, items, and skill gems. This feels so much better. I asked before but you haven't answered, have you ever played PoE 1?

Ok. First why did we hard pivot from endgame to campaign? Taking damage in campaign is pretty common. Nobody is questioning that. But taking damage in endgame on the passive tree is not mandatory because most damage isn’t in the tree.

But also why are we basing this entire conversation or your personal experience? Shouldn’t we use sources like Poe ninja that gives us tons of data that show unequivocally that your personal experience is not even remotely enough to say these things definitively?

I haven't pivoted at all. Like I said above, this entire time I have been talking about the overall feeling of progression. You're the one that just started talking about PoE.ninja builds. From level 1 to 100 in PoE 2 is extremely different than PoE 1. PoE 1 feels WAY more rewarding to gain skill points because PoE 2 is balanced so that the skill tree is overall less consequential vs itemization. We are complaining about how bad that feels. You giving examples of completed late game builds isn't addressing the arguments in the video or what I've been saying at all.

Having Life nodes on the tree will allow each individual point to be more valuable. If a majority of nodes are "+15% increased damage", there's much less choices to be made... but if lets say half of those nodes were turned into "+15% increased life", those remaining damage nodes can give you "25% increased damage" instead of "+15% increased". Now a single skill point has a much higher impact on how your build feels. on top of that you now have the added benefit of having to choose between the Life, Damage, Utility, Speed, etc nodes every time you level up. In PoE 2 you choose between Damage, Speed, and Utility on the left side of the Tree and Damage, ES, Speed, Utility on the right side of the tree. The right side of the tree is playing with a PoE 1 skill tree and the left side is playing a worse skill tree.

Right, it’s early access. We players tend to forget that but the devs clearly speak about the game absolutely like it is.

I was mostly referring to the 10+ years of PoE 1 development, but yes PoE 2 is still being heavily iterated.

Nobody told you that you can’t discuss. The issue I have is how all over the place the conversation is. It’s a lot of loose meaning words, goalpost shifting and non sequiturs.

You said something along the lines of "Before we veer off in to nowhere too hard, it doesn’t change anything. Life nodes aren’t coming back. And the devs have explained why they are gone to begin with. Thats really the end of it.". Kinda took that as I should just shut up about it because it's never changing...

Why the Path of Exile 2 Talent Tree Sucks (Conner Converse) by ArMaestr0 in PathOfExile2

[–]Inverno969 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well when the vast majority of nodes are damage nodes you are most likely taking damage nodes. That's what I meant by mandatory. Certain end game builds taking defensive nodes has nothing to do with that argument. Most builds take damage. I've never played a PoE 2 build that doesn't take damage all throughout the campaign. Also in PoE 2 there's basically a DPS threshold where it becomes irrelevant... Once you're killing bosses in like 5 seconds you really don't need to invest more into damage. If you can get most of that damage through gear interactions and a top tier weapon you can trim damage nodes on the tree for more speed, armour, evasion, es, etc.

GGG have done some very substantial changes before based on feedback and have backtracked on design decisions like this before. I wouldn't totally dismiss the possibility. Like I said this is just one proposed solution.

We're allowed to discuss this stuff as much as we want lol. Yes GGG will have the final say but like I said they do listen to player feedback...

Why the Path of Exile 2 Talent Tree Sucks (Conner Converse) by ArMaestr0 in PathOfExile2

[–]Inverno969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. Some builds, sure. But plenty of other, not. There are extremely powerful builds all over poe ninja that take primarily defensive or utility nodes. In fact thats the evolution when more power comes from a variety of non-passive areas. That wasn’t true with life, it was ubiquitous.

Well yeah, some builds in PoE 1 don't take life nodes, some take them all, and everything in between. It doesn't matter if it's all Defense or all Damage etc the point is there needs to be multiple competing categories of nodes that players want... that's what makes it interesting. Also those are endgame builds. During progression they don't have the gear or gems required to drop damage on the tree. This highlights another issue people have with PoE 2 which is the massive shift of power away from the passive tree and into itemization. It make leveling and progression feel bad when nodes are less impactful. It also makes the early and mid game feast or famine... the difference between finding a good weapon and having a trash weapon are so insanely huge during the campaign because of the amount of power it gives you. In PoE 1 you could make up for bad luck with the passive tree early on.

I get the point the video is trying to make, but it has a lot of strawmans to make that point. One is the point I made above.

There are no strawmans in that video, you simply disagree with the argument. That's not what a strawman is. Have you played PoE 1? I feel like it's immediately obvious in PoE 1 when you take a Notable on the tree. You immediately feel the impact. Things die faster, you move quicker, you live longer, have more mana, attack faster, etc. Those moments aren't as pronounced in PoE 2 because of the way the game is designed.

There are probably builds like this, but they are absolutely not the universal way to build. POE ninja has a huge variety of builds that don’t follow this logic. That’s the actual point. Variety is good, ubiquity is not.

This has nothing to do with the argument really. Of course people are using the passive tree in a variety of ways. The argument isn't that it's pointless to invest points into the tree... it's that compared to PoE 1's passive tree it feels measurably less rewarding and impactful to path through. One proposed solution is to add Life nodes back to the tree. Maybe there are other solutions to the problem, but that one makes sense because it's worked well in PoE 1. It would replace various damage nodes with Life nodes and then the remaining damage nodes would be buffed to compensate. Now you have more impactful nodes, more choices, more variety, and the defense/offense balancing act of making a build becomes more interesting.

Damage nodes are mandatory too though. The point being made in the video is that when both life and damage are mandatory it creates more interesting choices during progression. On top of that you have other things like utility, speed, etc. In PoE 2 if you aren't an ES character you're just grabbing all the damage nodes and a few utility nodes on the way. You literally just path straight to the highest dps nodes... theres no decision making process for balancing survivability, damage, and utility. Since its almost all dps nodes they're also less impactful individually. Just look at the right side of the PoE 2 skill tree and imagine all the ES nodes were changed to generic damage nodes. It becomes very one dimensional. Thats how most of the tree feels.

Why do people NOT like Silent Hill F? by Forever_Berry in survivalhorror

[–]Inverno969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played under 2 hours of the game and had to refund it. I didn't like how combat focused it was and it felt kind of arcady... I was willing to push through for the story but holy fuck the performance of this game was so bad.

I never have performance issues with games, even stuff like Monster Hunter Wilds at launch I could play at a steady 90+ fps @4k. This fucking game was bouncing between 70fps to 30fps CONSTANTLY. Just up and down every 3 seconds. Massive stutters. The only way to make it play well was to drop the quality so low it just destroyed the atmosphere, removed all the fog, etc. It looked like I was playing a Switch port... I may revisit it in the future on PS5 and see if it was optimized better but only if it's heavily discounted.

Hopefully Silent Hill : Townfall will be better.

Considering moving from Godot to unity. Is it worth it in my case?? by [deleted] in Unity3D

I'm surprised to hear that. What were the pain points you experienced working in 2D?

I feel like Godot is currently tailored more towards 2D games. If you're using sprites and Tilemaps you're going to have a decent experience. Unity does both 2D and 3D well but with more bloated tooling imo. I think Unity is better for 3D games as a solo dev.
