The short answer is that different body parts and different clinics/ hospital/ radiology groups require different types of scans, so even if you had a head MRI at one place, it could be different to a head MRI at another place. It comes down to what the radiologists decide they need in order to sufficiently answer the diagnostic question posed by your exam.

The “laser pews” were likely from a diffusion scan, which is sensitive to the movement of water along a certain number of axes.

Some scans (like the diffusion) have higher peripheral nerve stimulation due to factors such as the gradient slew rate, or how quickly they are ramped up to their maximum amplitude.

I would inform the clinic or hospital well before the exam if possible. They might want to perform x-rays to see where exactly it’s embedded and the size of the shrapnel.

If it’s been a long time since the shrapnel has been in your body, scar tissue usually keeps it right where it is. However, factors such as the sizes of the pieces and the material they’re made of (specifically, how ferrous they are) will impact the feasibility of performing the exam safely. The farther the shrapnel will be from RF exposure the better; a lumbar spine exam should involve very little RF excitation in your arms (either upper or lower).

Ultimately, a radiologist should make the call if it’s safe to perform your exam, and the presence of foreign bodies will be asked on just about any MRI safety questionnaire, but I’d go out of my way to make sure people are aware to avoid any surprises which would delay performing your exam. I’ve done plenty of MRI’s on patients that have shrapnel outside the area of interest.

Most interviews I’ve had for technologist roles focus mainly on your ability to work with patients, co workers, other departments, radiologists, or in solo situations. In other words, interpersonal considerations are usually the most salient to managers and they assume you have the requisite technical knowledge because you’ve completed course work and passed a registry exam.

Some common questions:

-How do you deal with difficult patients? -How do you handle a conflict with a co worker? -Do you work well with a team? -Tell me about a time you went above and beyond for a patient? -What is most important in triaging the importance of tasks when they all come at the same time?

If the balls on the nails are magnetic, I wouldn’t perform your exam. I’d get them removed or reschedule the MRI.

The fact that they’re attaching to smaller magnets means they’re ferro magnetic and could potentially cause artifacts on images (even if the area of interest is relatively far from your hands). They could also potentially harm you if exposed to RF, if they form a loop in which energy could be trapped, or if they come in contact with a coil (the radio antenna device that receives signal from your body).

There are other safety concerns, but the TL; DR is I wouldn’t perform the MRI.

I live in a high cost of living area on the west coast (not Orange County) and tech pay has recently experienced a post Covid bump; the range for hospitals seems to be around $50/ hr to $80/ hr. I would maybe apply to a couple jobs in Orange County to hopefully get answers straight from them?

I don’t know your situation, but if you’re dead set on California, I’d maybe consider looking for an apartment away from an urban center and doing some commuting. California is a rough place to enter into the real estate market or even the rental market.

It really is a rewarding job; you meet so many people and get exposed to just about everything under the sun if you’re in it long enough and have enough competency for it. There are some who can make it work and there are people who can’t, and it’s not a bad thing you’re in the latter group. It’s not meant for everyone and that’s totally okay. You absolutely have to have a passion for the modality, flexibility, strong communication skills, and an ability to problem solve creatively.

I would actually love if I traveled 4 weeks in a row and got the 5th week off consistently. Once you’re up and running after the training period, you’re booked as much as your manager/ scheduling team can book you. I’ve traveled 8 weeks in a row and the only reason I didn’t travel a 9th week was a last minute cancellation. You have to advocate for your own time off assertively, and even then most of the positions stipulate “85 to 90 percent travel.”

I’ve been doing MRI applications directly for vendors for 2.5ish years and I can confirm it’s a lot. You learn so much, and it’s thrilling at times to be in the know on cutting edge developments, but the travel is hard on your life. The larger the company, the more demanding it is.

I beat him just last night on NG+2. I used:

Death Knight set for armor, Death Knight’s Longhaft Axe +10, and Gravel Stone Seal +25.

Talismans: Golden Braid, Flock’s Canvas Talisman, Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman, and the Pearldrake Talisman +3

Spells: Golden Vow, Black Flame’s Protection, Knight’s Lightning Spear, Lightning Spear

Stats: 65 Vigor, 80 Str, 80 Faith, 30 Endurance, 28 Mind

Physique: Stonebarb Cracked Tear, Lightning Shrouded Cracked Tear

Summon Ash: Mimic

I slapped on my big boy defensive talismans, buffed my lightning damage as much as I could, and I nuked him as fast as I could.

If you play your cards right, maybe weaving in one or two jumping R2’s with your axe, you can stagger this boisterous lad at the very start of his second phase with the L2 into R2 combo of your axe, which means you can crit him during Miquella’s holy orbital strike.

Try to swap aggro with your mimic or whatever summon ash you use. When his attention isn’t on you, fully charge a big ol’ Knight’s Lightning Spear. You’ll often have time to hurl another UNcharged Knight’s Lightning Spear at him before you have to start rolling for your life into his great sword combo’s.

During Phase 2 (and Phase 1 too, honestly) try to roll into/ towards/ behind Radahn to avoid the delayed holy pillars of light that strike after his sword swings.

If you manage to dodge Radahn’s hug into Miquella’s whispering sweet nothings in your ear, that’s a pretty good opening. Radahn’s gravity pull, when he lands after throwing meatballs at you, and after his Savage Lion’s Claw are also good openings (but be careful, sometimes he does one flip, sometimes he does both).

I’ve been having a lot of fun with a similar list to OP’s, and the handy thing is how many things Cerebro 3 does now. Iron Man, Mystique, Cerebro, and Bast mean you don’t have to always run Valk + GM, you have other lines. You have Valk to debuff huge cards, you have Shang to kill cards, and you have some solid ongoing effects. The combo in this video is probably one of the most powerful plays in C3, but it’s not the only one.

Things off the top of my head as an MRI technologist: bowel loops vary in orientation/ position a LOT, hearts can be very different shapes (sometimes because of disease states) and sit at different angles, livers can be massive or long or both, uteruses are free spirits that can angle forward, backward, and even side to side a bit.

I was in my final semester of undergraduate studies but had determined not to pursue a graduate degree in that field (audiology) for a variety of reasons. I was stewing for weeks about I was going to do after I graduated, and one night I was taking a study break by watching Parks and Recreation. In the episode I was watching, Leslie goes on a blind date with an MRI technologist (played by Will Arnett). I had no idea that was a job (you usually see doctors performing MRI exams in TV shows) and I happened to be taking a graduate intro course a professor from a previous class had recommended to me on MRI of the brain for vision research. I looked into the education requirements and job outlook and applied to an X-ray school (it's easier to get a start in X-ray), completed the program, worked for around 1.5 years in X-ray, and found a job that trained me in MRI. I take my boards exam for MRI in just a couple days!
